Respect for a President

I never fail to be moved and awed by the military pomp and ceremony at Presidential funerals. As one of the network commentators reminded us, this same procedure is carried out every day for our soldiers, no matter what their rank.

The quiet respect from the public as they wait on line for hours for a seconds-long glimpse of the casket in the Rotunda; and the military traditions, precision, and discipline, all demonstrate America at her finest.

There's a beautiful slide show here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/photo/galleries/061230/fordfuneral/index.html

DING DONG, SADDAM IS DEAD!

To read more from the Iraqis' point of view, check out Iraqi Bloggers Central at:
http://jarrarsupariver.blogspot.com/. Meanwhile, here at home:

Iraqi-Americans cheer reports of Saddam's execution
http://www.examiner.com/a-481550~Iraqi_Americans_cheer_reports_of_Saddam_s_execution.html
DEARBORN, Mich. - A crowd of Iraqi-Americans cheered and cried late Friday outside a mosque as some Arab media reported that Saddam Hussein was executed. The crowd of more than 150 had gathered earlier in anticipation of Saddam's execution, praying for the death of the former Iraqi dictator as people honked car horns, sang and danced in celebration. Chants of "Now there's peace, Saddam is dead" in English and Arabic rang into the night in this Detroit suburb. Imam Husham Al-Husainy, the director of the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center, said members of the center prayed for Saddam's death. Outside, traffic slowed as people drove in circles around the mosque, honking horns and flashing peace signs. "This is our celebration of the death of Saddam," he said while standing on top of a car following the news that Saddam had been hanged. "The gift of our New Year is the murder of Saddam Hussein. "If you want to share the Iraqi people's happiness for the death of Saddam, raise your voice and your hands." The crowd responded with cheers.

If anyone like the ACLU feels sorry for Saddam, they should visit this website, http://www.9neesan.com/massgraves/, and look at his victims.

And Speaking of Anti-Idiotarians..

The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller http://www.nicedoggie.net/2006/?p=1744 reports:
News From the “Ceasefire”
Does anyone remember ceasefire? Two teenagers injured in their legs Tuesday evening by shrapnel of a Qassam rocket. One of the youths, Adir Basad, sustained critical wounds and was rushed into surgery. The other teen, Matan Cohen, was moderately to severely injured.
Three people suffered from shock and several cars and houses in the area were damaged.
The al-Quds Brigades, the Islamic Jihad’s military wing, claimed responsibility for firing the rocket, which the group said was done in light of “the truce violations by Israel .” What truce violations? In fact, what truce?

Vote Now for Idiotarian and Anti-Idiotarian of 2006!

Little Green Footballs has its polls open till December 31 at http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=23806_Anti-Idiotarian_of_the_Year_2006_Voting_Open&only. You can vote only once in each category.
In simple terms, an "idiotarian", a word used by bloggers, is an idiot, usually with a left-leaning political bent, people like Cindy Sheehan, Kofi Annan, and Jimmy Carter. An "anti-idiotarian", a phrase coined by LGF's Charles Johnson, is a person standing firm against idiotarians, such as our former Ambassador, John Bolton.

Here's the 2002 LGF post that best defines these perfect words:

http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=2091

Glenn Reynolds answers the question “Where are all the non-libertarian bloggers? What bloggers are more than anything, I think, is anti-idiot. That makes life tough for Noam Chomsky, Cornel West, and the Revs. Falwell, Robertson, Jackson, & Sharpton, for reasons that transcend traditional partisanship and ideology." That’s it exactly! I really don’t care to affiliate myself with any of the current political parties. But if there were an Anti-Idiotarian Party™, I’d be a member for life.

Our Multi-National Force in Iraq

Last night, I got to hear some of Sean Hannity's radio show. A General Caldwell from the Multi-National Force in Iraq was on, and he and Sean's guest host discussed the lack of positive reporting in the mainstream media -- something we've been complaining about for years.

The general gave out the Multi-National Force website, http://www.mnf-iraq.com/, and I've been telling everyone to take a look. There's plenty of news and photographs, press briefings, and slide shows, and there's a place where you can send a message to the troops. I also signed up for their e-mail newsletter.

Here's a great item from the MNF website about the king rat, Saddam:
Medics clear rats from Saddam’s bunker
BAGHDAD — It was a scene straight from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” or maybe “Willard.” American soldiers walking through a dimly lit, underground command bunker once used by a brutal dictator, now filled with hundreds of rats. Throw in a snake or two, and you have the perfect setting for a horror movie.

The New Seven Wonders

Here's an interesting article about candidates for the new Seven Wonders of the World. I voted for the Acropolis; Easter Island statues; the Eiffel Tower; the Great Wall of China; the Pyramids at Giza; the Statue of Liberty; and the Taj Mahal. I simply cannot see the Sydney Opera House in the same league!

Some Things Never Change

From Neal Boortz' Nealz Nuze, http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html

"There's supposed to be a ceasefire with between the so-called Palestinians and the Israelis in Gaza. Just the same, the Palestinians continue to fire rockets from the Gaza strip into Israel. Jimmy Carter will tell you that this is all Israel's fault."

Swinging Saddam

Swinging on the end of a rope, that is. The Iraqi court has ruled that the dictator must hang within 30 days. By carrying out this sentence, it will send a message that we will not tolerate terrorism. If the execution date is endlessly delayed by ACLU-types, it's a defeat for justice.

It's All Our Fault

David Irving ought to ask himself why he is such an antisemite!
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/804622.html
David Irving: Jews should ask themselves why they are hated
By Amiram Barkat, Haaretz Correspondent
Holocaust denier David Irving on Friday said Jews should ask themselves why they have been hated throughout history."They [Jews] should ask themselves the question, 'Why have they been so hated for 3000 years that there has been pogrom after pogrom in country after country?', said Irving.

Pre-Christmas Hysteria

Unfortunately I had to go out today and nearly got run over by shoppers in the Christmas madness. It reminded me of the scene in "The Day After" when the people rush to the supermarket and grab anything they can get before the nuclear bomb hits. It also reminded me of the running of the bulls. People were rampaging up and down aisles, snatching anything and everything off the shelves without even looking at prices. It was a relief to get home in one piece. I hate to imagine what the stores and the roads will be like tomorrow and Monday!

Jimmy Carter Wins Fifth Hokum!

Here's some stinging satire from TCSDaily.com. Among other things, it says:
"HOLLYWOOD (SatireNewsService) -- The Academy of World Political Humor Arts and Letters (AWPHAL) today awarded comedian Jimmy (James Earl) Carter the 2006 Hokum as the year's finest political comedian. Carter's record shattering fifth Hokum came against stiff competition from a highly regarded group of nominees." and "Carter's comic career is a story of almost continuous success since he burst on the political scene in the mid-1970s playing a clownish U.S. President while actually holding the office. These sustained performances earned him four consecutive Hokum awards. This unprecedented record has stood the test of time. No other individual comic has been awarded more than two Hokums during an entire career (though an organization, the United Nations, through its various committees and "peacekeeping" efforts has won seventeen Hokums). The only two-time individual winners include Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover, Joe McCarthy, Neville Chamberlain, Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan and Jacques Chirac. More recently, Carter has enjoyed success in his long-running, one-man variety show "Jimmy Carter, a Farce to be Reckoned With," in which he plays a completely flummoxed, self-aggrandizing, tyrant-supporting busy-body whose foundation takes money from - and acts as a shill for - a bevy of Middle Eastern and Latin American dictators."

"AWPHAL" -- I love it!

Duke Rape Charges Dismissed

No surprise here. We knew that the District Attorney, Mike Nifong, was going ahead with this trumped-up case in order to get re-elected, which unfortunately he was.

From the very start this case was like the Tawana Brawley hoax. If blacks accuse whites, no matter how farfetched the story is, the politically correct thing to do is pursue the case. The Democrats used this tactic against the Republicans in the 2000 elections, when they tried to imply that Republicans were stopping blacks from voting. When people protested that this wasn't so, the reply was that even if a claim isn't true, you can make it sound like it is. It's a variation of the Big Lie.

Mike Nifong ought to be charged with withholding evidence, and disbarred; the 3 accused students should sue for false imprisonment and defamation of character; and the lying lowlife accuser should be barred from selling her "story" on tabloid TV.

London Braces for Attack

What a lovely headline!
I guess naming your kid Mohammed is no guarantee that you won't be blown up.
Is America next?

Good for Goode

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA)only said what many Americans have been thinking when he said, "The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran... I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America."

CAIR is demanding that he apologize. I don't recall CAIR apologizing for the Muslim attacks on America on September 11.

"Religion of Perpetual Outrage"

Here's a great year in review by Michelle Malkin.

Things will only get worse unless we stop bending over backwards for these people. Michael Savage said on the radio last night that unless Americans start getting angry, there will be corpses in our streets.

I think it's too late. If Americans didn't get angry after September 11, they never will.

Blame the Jews, Part 298

Who would these people blame if it weren't for us Jews?

Joy Behar + The Holocaust Deniers

From Betsy's Page, this insightful post, ending with the following: "Can we expect more wisdom from the Muslims of the Middle East who have never been taught about the Nazis when we get such stupidities from those in this country who have?"

Laura Bush

Instead of criticizing First Lady Laura Bush for not publicly disclosing she
had a cancerous growth removed from her leg, people should be relieved her cancer wasn't worse than it was. Maybe the "comedian" Joy Behar will have something to say about this, too.Reality TV has made people think that every facet of ones private life must be lived on television.

Kowtowing Again

From Barking Moonbat Early Warning System comes this outrageous example of politically correct kowtowing:
FBI counter-terrorism agents in Florida attended a “sensitivity training” workshop yesterday conducted by a controversial Islamic lobby group. Although it has been described by two former FBI counter-terrorism chiefs as a spin-off of a U.S. front for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, led the workshop on “Islam and the American Muslim community” at the FBI’s Jacksonville Division All Employee Conference.

Light a Candle

Light a candle for Israel's kidnapped soldiers
Over five months have passed since the abduction of Israeli soldiers Gilad Shalit, Udi Goldwasser, and Eldad Regev. In the continued effort to gain their secure release and show our support for the soldiers and their families, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the World Zionist Organization have partnered with the YNET web site to launch a worldwide public campaign during the eight days of Hanukkah, December 15-22. Visitors to the site http://or.ynet.co.il will be able to light a virtual candle in honor of the three Israeli soldiers and add their name and location to the list of supporters from all around the world. The hope is to reach hundreds of thousands of candle lighters worldwide and through this initiative light the darkness of Gilad, Udi, and Eldad and warm the hearts of their loved ones.

Another Botched Joke?

This is sickening but not entirely unexpected:
Joy Behar Suggests GOP Caused Senator Tim Johnson's Illness. On Thursday's The View, Joy Behar seriously suggested Senator Tim Johnson was the victim of a deliberate act to cause his brain disorder that led to emergency surgery and has left him in critical condition: "Is there such a thing as a man-made stroke? In other words, did someone do this to him?" An astounded Elisabeth Hasselbeck wondered: "Why is everything coming from the liberal perspective a conspiracy?" Behar contended, on the ABC daytime show, that the Republican Party is capable of such a nefarious deed: "I know what this, that party is capable of." [This item is adopted from a posting, by Megan McCormack, on the MRC's blog, NewsBusters.org: newsbusters.org ]

What is wrong with these people??
Also, I wish Mrs. Tim Johnson would make a public statement (1) condemning this conspiracy theory; and (2) asking that the public concentrate on wishing her husband well rather on speculating on what his death may mean to the Senate.

Quack Quartet

Here's a very good editorial from the New York Post:

December 15, 2006 -- Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad is playing host this week to a quartet of U.S. senators who all seem to be under the delusion that they've been elected president. How else to explain why the four - led by Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) - seem to think they have the authority to sound out the Damascus dictator about his intentions in Iraq and Lebanon? To be sure, two of the four - Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) - have run for the White House in past years. And two of them, Kerry and fellow Democrat Christopher Dodd (Conn.), are moving to do so in 2008. Of course, the four insist they're merely on a perfectly legitimate "fact-finding field trip" - never mind the urging from the White House and the State Department that they not meet with Assad. In sounding out Assad on his intentions in Iraq, Nelson clearly crossed the line from casual listener to active negotiator. And unauthorized negotiations with a foreign power by a private citizen is a felony punishable by up to three years in prison under the Logan Act. Of course, no one has ever been prosecuted under the law (it dates to 1799). And applying it to members of Congress would probably be a stretch.
But it remains that these visits send an ugly message to Assad - hinting that the new Democratic majority in Congress intends to undermine the administration's conduct of foreign policy. That would be wrong. Nelson, for his part, came away from his meeting convinced that "Assad clearly indicated his willingness to cooperate with the Americans and/or the Iraqi army to be part of a solution." If Assad truly feels that way, there are proper channels he can use to transmit the message - channels that can better assess the seriousness of Assad's intentions than a gaggle of footloose U.S. senators.

America, Wake Up!

Look at the great graphics here about the terrorist threat to America. While I didn't care for the website itself, I thought this presentation was very good, and a necessary reminder of the terrorist attacks that have gone on since 1979.

Vultures

It's nauseating the way the politicians and the media are hovering around poor Senator Tim Johnson, who suffered a stroke or stroke-like attack. They all seem more concerned about the potential shift of power than the fact that this man may die.

Today's Blame-Bush Story

Last night Curtis Sliwa (The Guardian Angel) was on the radio filling in for Sean Hannity. It seems Sen. Charles Shumer and the NY Times are actually blaming Pres. Bush for this latest round of e Coli!
Taco Bell had originally been blamed, but there was no evidence it was their fault, so Sliwa, to restore Taco Bell's good name, has been deliberately eating tacos and scallions from there! Anyway, it turns out that lettuce is to blame for the e Coli.
For the best summing-up of the Bush-Bashing Phenomenon, read Lorie Byrd
Here
The Benefits of Bush Bashing
In my Examiner column today I look at the benefits of Bush bashing. As we saw this week with Kofi Annan, you can say anything about President Bush, no matter how incredibly lacking your credibility is on a subject, as long as you sufficiently bash George Bush. Also, if you are a conservative, you can not only bash Bush while escaping scrutiny yourself, but you can also expect positive media attention (even fawning) that is ordinarily next to impossible for conservatives to receive.

The entire must-read analysis ishere.

At Least Jimmy Carter Isn't There

Iran's so-called "Holocaust conference" is just an excuse for more antisemitism and Israel-bashing.
Here is what Germany had to say about this outrage. (At least the Germans didn't host this conference!)
Imagine the Ku Klux Klan holding a conference on slavery, or Rwanda having a conference on genocide.

The Rabbi and the Christmas Tree

Every day, it seems, we have one person who hates Christmas, or who hates the phrase "Merry Christmas", or who hates Christmas trees, and anything to do with Christmas (except the shopping).

Now, a rabbi is getting hate mail because the Seattle airport overreacted to his request to add a menorah to their Christmas tree display. Instead, they removed all the trees!

And so, thanks to this politically correct stupidity, and thanks to the media, all Jews look like Christmas-bashers.

Read more here.

Insulting

President Jalal Talabani said the report of the Iraq Study Group contained dangerous recommendations that would undermine his country’s sovereignty and were “an insult to the people of Iraq.”

Torah in Space

Smooth Stone reports this touching story:
December 9, 2006
Torah scroll returns home from space
A small Torah scroll that was brought out of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp returned home from space with the Atlantis space crew.To honor the memory of her husband, Ilan Ramon, and the crew of the Columbia space shuttle, Rona Ramon asked Canadian astronaut Steve MacLean to take a Torah scroll aboard the Atlantis space shuttle. She asked Professor Henry Fenichel for his scroll. Fenichel was a survivor of Bergen-Belsen camp. The scroll was returned to Professor Fenichel at a ceremony at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. Fenichel is a professor of physics in Cincinnati and a child survivor of the Holocaust. Ilan Ramon originally took the scroll into space on the Columbia space flight. The scroll, belonging to Tel Aviv University Professor Joachim Joseph, a Holocaust survivor, never made it home when the Columbia crashed upon its return to earth. Ramon was the son of an Auschwitz survivor.

The Disgraceful Washington Post

I did a double take when I first saw this story and had to go to the Post website to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Per Atlas Shrugs and Little Green Footballs
WAPO Throws the Jews Down the Well
Charles over at LGF, points to the "new dialogue" on Israel. This will become the new talking point now that the dhimmicrats have their election validation. Jews that voted Democrat deserve our scorn and contempt. Nothing less.

It’s an absolute disgrace that the Washington Post is publishing hateful garbage like this, by Palestinian “journalist” Daoud Kuttab: Israel is a Liability for US.
Disgusting. The Washington Post should be ashamed. But I know they are not.

Protest Jimmy Carter

From Kesher Talk:
December 09, 2006 Talk Back to Carter. The Simon Wiesenthal Center has started an email campaign in response to thankfully ex-president Jimmy Carter's new anti-Israel screed. Carter, whom I consider the worst president the United States ever had -- and I include such luminaries as Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan in that assessment -- has a long history of loathing for Israel and support for the PLO and other terrorist elements of Palestinian nationalism. I will not even enter into his megalomaniacal insistance on taking total credit for the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty, which was, of course, largely worked out beforehand by the real heroes of that agreement, Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin. In a world divided between resistance to totalitarian violence and the sophistry of its collaborators, I do not think that such fetid pathologies as Carter's can safely go unchallenged. I strongly recommend reading the linked page and participating.

Here's that link

Still Waiting

But we are the ones doing all the apologizing, it seems!

Here's a good piece by Steve Harlan of Des Moines.

Still waiting for Muslims' message of peace
December 8, 2006
Americans have long been waiting to hear something from Muslim religious leaders.
We have been waiting to hear them say that using women and children as human shields is wrong. We have been waiting to hear them say that teaching children to become suicide bombers is wrong.
Instead, we hear that six Muslim imams made the news because they frightened airline passengers out of their wits and got thrown off a plane in Minneapolis. They were praying loudly and trying to draw attention to themselves, and then re-enacted what the Sept. 11 hijackers did by taking three pairs of seats in the front, back and exit rows of the planes - seats that did not belong to them.
Within hours, the clerics had lawyers and were complaining their rights were violated, in what appears to be a staged event to help future hijackers by intimidating American passengers and airline companies.
I believe moderate and traditional Muslims are the victims of their own Saudi-trained religious leaders, not victims of American airline security.
Either the media is failing to report things accurately, or these imams are the root of the problem with world terrorism.

Baker Commission & Dems: "Surrender Monkeys"

Jimmy Carter

Here is how Al-Jazeerah is covering the latest inflammatory remarks from Jimmy Carter.

Former US president, Jimmy Carter, blames Israel and US for the failure of the peace process

He ought to go work for their propaganda office.

Remember Pearl Harbor

What Kind of Sick Minds Are These?

This infuriates me. To think that you would fake an illness (for 20 years!) rather than work and earn money honestly -- there is no excuse. And you can bet there are plenty of genuinely handicapped people who ARE working every day. These lowlives should have the book thrown at them.

Mother Charged With Faking Son's Retardation;Mother and Son Face Up to 10 Years in Prison for Fraud. Mother has been charged with making her son masquerade as a mentally retarded person for nearly 20 years. Now, federal prosecutors are cracking down on Rosie Marie Costello and her son, Peter, who may have bilked more than $220,000 from the government in fraudulent claims.

Shut Up, and Pray At Home!

Excuse me, but isn't this what mosques are for?? From Little Green Footballs:This is getting ridiculous. Muslim woman cites gym after interrupted prayer. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
DEARBORN — Fitness USA, a gym chain, is investigating an alleged civil rights violation involving a local Muslim woman who says her afternoon prayer was interrupted by a fellow patron, and that her complaint to management about the situation was rejected. “The manager told me, ‘You have to respect her (the patron), but she does not have to respect your God,’” said Wardeh Sultan of Dearborn. “I’ve had my membership for seven or eight years, and I’ve never had a problem with praying there. “I told that manager, ‘I can’t believe you said that,’” Sultan said. “Honestly, I feel humiliated and I feel ashamed, right now, to go back to Fitness USA.”

Obscene Comparison

Although nothing the antisemites and terrorists do and say should surprise us, here is a comparison that should outrage everyone:
The Times, December 04, 2006: Royal stumbles in row over attack on Israel as 'Nazi', by Adam Sage, Paris. Ségolène Royal, the French presidential candidate, was embroiled in a damaging row on a visit to the Middle East yesterday after appearing to condone a Hezbollah MP who denounced US “insanity” and compared Israel to the Nazis. Ms Royal, the first woman with a realistic chance of winning the French presidency, was struggling to extricate herself from the controversy sparked by a meeting in Beirut with MPs, including Ali Ammar of Hezbollah.

"Let's Say Thanks To The Troops"

Here is a simple website that lets you send a printed postcard to our troops.

Idiotic Remark of the Day

Kofi Annan has outdone himself. Best of the Web reports:
Let's just repeat Annan's description of Iraq under Saddam: They had a dictator who was brutal but they had their streets, they could go out, their kids could go to school and come back home without a mother or father worrying, "Am I going to see my child again?"Annan isn't just claiming that Saddam, though brutal, made the trains run on time. He is saying that Saddam actually looked out for the safety of the Iraqi people, the very people his regime was gassing, setting ablaze, tying to tanks, torturing and raping. Is Annan just ignorant, or is he depraved? We suppose it could be a little of both.

Ambassador Bolton Resigns

The United Nations has lost the only man decent enough to stand up for Israel and for America.

I wonder who the Democrats will nominate to try to fill Bolton's shoes. How about Jimmy Carter? His anti-Israel views would make him a perfect addition to the U.N.

More on the Imams on the Plane

Read Richard Miniter's article, "The Faking Imams" on Pajamas Media.

Why do Americans refuse to see the threat in our midst? I think US Air deserves a lot of credit for not caving in to PC pressure.

Always Israel's Fault

Thanks to Smooth Stone I came across this link to a perceptive article by Mindelle Jacobs of the Edmondton Sun. (I have noticed before than the Canadians seem to be more upset than the Americans do when it comes to anti-Israel sentiment.)

Her headline? "It's Always Israel's Fault". We've all said the same thing many times ourselves. No matter what Israel does and how much caving in she does, it's still her fault.

But it's always a relief and a vindication when eloquent authors say in print what you've been saying all along.

"Peace in our Time"

This excellent article from Front Page Magazine compares the James Baker proposal for talks with Iran and Syria to Neville Chamberlain's deal with Hitler.

Here's a piece of the article:
The Jewish state would be left with no alternative but to take whatever military action it could to stop Iran from completing its nuclear program. American capitulation will have left it with no alternative. Would Jim Baker cut such a deal? In a heartbeat. Never a friend of Israel, he wouldn't flinch at a realpolitik solution giving Iran power throughout the region. But why would Bush go along? It would be "peace in our time" - Munich, 1938 - all over again.
