Why is This Man Smiling?

The viroterrorist pictured above has been identified. And, to make the story even more bizarre, it turns out that "the father-in-law of the 31-year-old man under federal quarantine with a rare and dangerous form of tuberculosis is one of the leading TB researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, FOX News has learned. Dr. Robert Cooksey, who is a research microbiologist in the CDC's Division of Tuberculosis Elimination, confirmed to FOX News that he is the father-in-law of Andrew Speaker, a personal-injury lawyer who practices in his father's law firm in Atlanta." Now, some are already claiming that this entire story is a hoax, as if that makes any difference. If it IS a hoax, I'm sure all the passengers who have had to get TB tests are not amused. And you can be sure that this TB spreader's law firm doesn't think it's very funny. We'll be hearing too many excuses and dismissive explanations as the days go by.

More Good Economic News

Good news you probably won't hear much about on the TV news: "Wall Street shot higher Wednesday, sending the Standard & Poor's 500 index to its first record close in more than seven years, as investors grew more confident that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates in the second half of 2007. The Dow Jones industrials also reached a new high close. The S&P 500, considered by traders as the best barometer of U.S. stocks, surpassed the record of 1,527.46, set March 24, 2000, at the peak of the dot-com boom, closing at 1,530.23, up 12.12, or 0.80 percent." Oh well!

Must Flee TB

Every day the news contains a story that leaves me completely dumbfounded. No, I don't mean Lindsay Lohan's Paris Hilton-like drunk driving arrest. I mean this story of the viroterrorist who has been recklessly spreading deadly, drug-resistant tuberculosis through several countries. Shouldn't this be the #1 story of the day, and shouldn't this be yet another reason to stop the flood of illegal immigrants pouring into this country?

Support British Troops in Iraq

The military support group Operation AC reports that British troops serving in Iraq never receive any letters of support. Mrs. Frankie Mayo, the founder of this group, suggests we write letters of support, and here are the addresses: For UK Troops serving in Baghdad, address letters to: Office of the Deputy Commanding General, Multi National Forces Iraq, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO BRITISH TROOPS, BAGHDAD, Room M130 US Embassy Annex, APO, AE 09316; for UK Troops serving in Basra, address letters to: Office of the Deputy Commanding General, Multi National Forces Iraq, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO BRITISH TROOPS, BASRA, Room M130 US Embassy Annex, APO, AE 09316.

Indecent Talks

Little Green Footballs and Cox & Forkum capture my disgust and outrage over the fact that this country is holding talks with Iran! It's bad enough that we are holding talks with Iran at all -- but it's even worse that the talks started yesterday...on Memorial Day! What a slap in the face to our soldiers!

"Welcome Home, and Thank You"

MEMORIAL DAY 2007

Here is part of President Bush's eloquent speech today at Arlington National Cemetery: "The greatest memorial to our fallen troops cannot be found in the words we say or the places we gather. The more lasting tribute is all around us -- a country where citizens have the right to worship as they want, to march for what they believe, and to say what they think. These freedoms came at great costs -- and they will survive only as long as there are those willing to step forward to defend them against determined enemies. As before in our history, Americans find ourselves under attack and underestimated. Our enemies long for our retreat. They question our moral purpose. They doubt our strength of will. Yet even after five years of war, our finest citizens continue to answer our enemies with courage and confidence. Hundreds of thousands of patriots still raise their hands to serve their country; tens of thousands who have seen war on the battlefield volunteer to re-enlist. What an amazing country to produce such fine citizens."
You can read his entire tribute here.

"The Blessings of Liberty"

President Bush's radio address today included the following: “On Memorial Day, we rededicate ourselves to freedom's cause. In Iraq and Afghanistan, millions have shown their desire to be free. We are determined to help them secure their liberty. Our troops are helping them build democracies that respect the rights of their people, uphold the rule of law, and fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror. With the valor and determination of our men and women in uniform, I am confident that we will succeed and leave a world that is safer and more peaceful for our children and grandchildren. ... We also pay tribute to Americans from every generation who have given their lives for our freedom. From Valley Forge to Vietnam, from Kuwait to Kandahar, from Berlin to Baghdad, brave men and women have given up their own futures so that others might have a future of freedom. Because of their sacrifice, millions here and around the world enjoy the blessings of liberty." Whatever you might think of our president, and whatever your views on war, at least have the decency to respect and remember our troops.

Memorial Day Reading

Here are only a few of many great posts and articles on the Internet this Memorial Day weekend: From 2002, a poignant tribute about "Soldier Glynn, A D-Day Normandy Survivor" .
The history of Memorial Day.
A website encouraging Americans to unite in remembrance.
And Michael Goldfarb extols the virtues of Operation Gratitude, a wonderful organization for which volunteers pack and ship care packages to our troops in Iraq.

The pro-Israel group Stand With Us has started a great advertising campaign in the Washington, DC Metro. Take a look at the link for the posters they're using to counter anti-Israel propaganda. One of them is shown above.

Missing Headlines

I have always wondered why it is that certain missing women and children are more newsworthy than others. This column by Bridget Johnson says it all: "If you’re a missing kid, you’d better hope you’re cute." and "One thinks of the kids, besides Maddy, that have made such huge headlines recently: Natalie Hollaway. Jon Benet Ramsey. Elizabeth Smart. Cute blonde kids. Coincidence, or troubling statement about what captures our attention and gets priority down at the newsroom?"

Homeland Insecurity

Shouldn't the Director of Homeland Security do everything possible to secure our homeland? In regards to the immigration plan, according to Michelle Malkin, Michael Chertoff actually said, "I understand that some people think it's not tough enough. Maybe they want people thrown in jail for ten years or they want people executed." Well, if he has such a low opinion of the American people, maybe "some people" would like to see him resign!

How the French Deal With Immigration

France's solution to illegal immigration: "France is home to over 5 million immigrants -- and the new conservative-led government doesn't plan on making things any more comfortable for them. While the new regime in Paris is determined to curb illegal immigration, it is also looking to encourage legal migrants to reconsider their decision to stay in France -- by paying them to go back home."

Tragic News

If true, this is tragic news about one of our missing soldiers in Iraq "The features of the recovered body were difficult to discern because the man appeared to have been dead for days and about half a dozen gunshots wounds covered his face, skull and neck, the officer said. The arms and chest appeared to have suffered blows from a pipe." Will the confirmation of this torture and murder provoke outrage in this country, or are people still too obsessed with "American Idol" and Paris Hilton to even care?

Israel's Good Deeds

Smooth Stone highlights Israel's good deeds, which receive scant media attention. Among other things, do Americans know "that Israel sent tons of medical supplies, food, clothing and medical teams to victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean and to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina?"

1 in 4 Approve of Suicide Bombings

"The Future in the War on Terror"

As always, there's so much intelligent writing on the Internet, and
here is another example, from Wizbang: "If you want to know what the future in the War on Terror might be like, look at Sderot. Years and years and years of attacks, while nobody does a goddamned thing to stop them. A worldwide culture of tolerance for a certain level of terror, of carnage, where a couple of rocket attacks a day are considered "acceptable" and "tolerable" -- especially by those not sitting on the bullseye."

Selective Caring

This perceptive statement was reported by Eye On The World: '"We live in a world where when Christians kill Muslims, it's a crusade. When Jews kill Muslims, it's a massacre. When Muslims kill Muslims, it's the weather channel. Nobody cares,' Ambassador Dan Gillerman told reporters at a press lunch at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York."

Fighting With Ones Head in the Sand

As usual, Caroline Glick gets right to the heart of the matter: "...the message that Israel is sending is not that Hamas should stop attacking Israel. By refusing to fight to victory, Israel is telling Hamas that it cannot lose, which is to say, it can go on fighting forever."

"Carpet Bomb Gaza Already"

Atlas Shrugs says, Carpet Bomb Gaza Already, and I agree. Read the reasons why, including the politically correct fantasyland in which our State Department lives.

"Cruelty of Cowards"

Excerpts from Ralph Kinney Bennett's great article on "The Cruelty of Cowards": "Think about it. If three Islamic fighters had been captured by the Americans, would there be any apprehension about their fate? Of course not. Despite all the fervid Abu Ghraib and Gitmo propagandizing of assorted leftists, pseudo-peaceniks and Democrat apologists, the general presumption is they would be treated decently. But as soon as the news of the disappearance of these three American soldiers was released, the presumption was for the worst. For in the twisted world of Al-Qaida and its spawn of Islamofascists cruelty is first and second nature. And there is no cruelty quite like the cruelty of cowards. Because, in the end, cruelty is their only weapon. The cruelty that leaves bodies in the smoking ruins of buildings. The cruelty that beheads. The cruelty that slaughters innocents in the marketplace. The cruelty born of a cowardice that camouflages itself in the ignorant "bravery" of suicide bombers. ... No matter how Islamic apologists parse it and high-minded scholars and imams turn words on their heads to explain it, "jihad" always seems to end up writ in bloody revenge, murder and histrionic cruelty. We are in a war against this cruelty. It is a war some think can be "ended." But it is a war, I think, that must be won or lost. And the consequences of losing are dire for mankind."

Media Bias

Rubicon3 shows how the media controls the news. Regarding the attacks in Gaza, "Palestinian rocket attacks on Sderot have received very little coverage in world media, despite the heavy barrages that have been going on for the past three days...The moment that the IDF began to retaliate, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict went back to making headlines."

There He Goes Again

Jimmy Carter has now attacked Tony Blair. "Carter was asked how he would describe Blair's attitude to US President George W. Bush. He replied: 'Abominable. Loyal, blind, apparently subservient. I think that the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world.'" Personally, I think Jimmy Carter's outrageous utterances have been a major tragedy for the world.

"The Speech George W. Bush SHOULD Give"

I saw this at Kesher Talk today. It's the speech President Bush should give.

"Israeli planes pound Hamas targets"

Good! Of course, we will have to hear about all the "innocent" Palestinians killed and injured, but Israel has to defend herself. No explanations or apologies are necessary.

Capitulation

This rushed immigration reform plan shows again the continuing undermining of America -- by our own people. I love headlines like this:
"Illegal immigrants say White House-Senate immigration reform agreement is unrealistic" and this: "Mexicans fear U.S. immigration plan." Who cares what illegals think? This is our country. What do LEGAL American citizens have to say about this? Can you imagine illegals actually meeting some of these conditions? "They will have to pass a background check, pay a $5,000 fine, maintain a clean criminal record, and pass English language requirements." Right.

Wolfowitz Resigns Under Pressure

Atlas Shrugs reports on another win for the bad guys. She says, "Soros and his flying monkeys have raised eliminating effective Republicans to an art form."

TV or Not TV?

When it comes to TV shows, I am in the minority when it comes to the appeal of many hit shows. More interested in reading, only a few TV shows interest me (such as "Law & Order Criminal Intent" with the Columbo-like, but much more intense, Vincent D'Onofrio; and the British soap "EastEnders"). So I was amazed to hear that they are actually making a sitcom based on the Geico commercial cavemen. A whole show revolving around these characters? I don't even like those particular commercials, so I can't even imagine watching a 1/2 hour long show about them! For those of you who are avid TV watchers, I recommend the terrific TV Tattle website. Occasionally this site is down, but when it's available, you won't be disappointed.

Dumbing Down

Too bad Americans aren't as irate over terrorists in our midst as they are over a contestant being eliminated from "American Idol"! Speaking of terrorism, the thwarted Fort Dix terrorist plot has all but vanished from the news. Is talking about, and reporting on, terrorism, and doing everything we can to protect ourselves, considered politically incorrect? I continue to find this dumbing down of terrorism mind-boggling.

Gee, What a Shame

Neal Boortz wonders, "How ironic is this headline: Illegal Immigrants Lose Out of Tax Refunds in Kansas, Missouri. You mean that they are complaining that they aren't getting anything back from the government? Oh, please. Good for Kansas and Missouri for deny these benefits that should only be for legal U.S. citizens." If you have the stomach to read more, go here.

Good for Rudy!

Isn't it a shame that 6 years after September 11, we still have to defend this country against attacks that it was America's own fault? But Rudi Giuliani handled himself on this point very well in the debate last night, against that crazy Ron Paul, as per this liveblogging account: "Ron Paul buys the moonbat, blame-America line as the cause of global jihad. Goler: Are you suggesting that we invited the 9/11 attacks, sir? Giuliani: That's an extraordinary attack. And I've heard some pretty absurd explanations from the 9/11 attack. Biggest applause of the night. I would ask the congressman to withdraw that comment and tell us he didn't mean it. Ron Paul: I believe sincerely in blowback. If we ignore that, we ignore that at our own risk. They don't come here to attack us because we're rich and free. They attack us because we are over there." Giuliani doesn't want to let it lie. Good for him. Goler changes the subject." Although we have become used to hearing blame-America, blame-Bush 9/11 conspiracy theories from crackpots and Hollywood celebrities, it's more disconcerting and more disturbing to hear it from the lips of a Presidential candidate.

Real Surrender Monkeys!

This is hilarious! "Living, breathing Surrender Monkeys will lead crowds of patriotic Americans protesting the efforts by Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to undercut support for the missions of our troops in Iraq. The monkeys (waving white "surrender" flags) along with pro-troop supporters will be conducting protests outside the district offices of Harry Reid & Nancy Pelosi on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 10:30 AM Pacific Time." Deranged Democrats

We are used to "Bush Derangement Syndrome" as defined by Charles Krauthammer, Michelle Malkin, and others. In his recent column, Jonah Goldberg has described just how crazy the Democrats really are, and it's even worse than we thought. According to a poll, “Democrats in America are evenly divided on the question of whether George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in advance. Thirty-five percent of Democrats believe he did know, 39 percent say he did not know and 26 percent are not sure.”

American Soldiers Captured

3 U.S. soldiers have been captured by Al Qaeda in Iraq. Odd, since so many refuse to believe there is any connection at all between Al Qaeda and Iraq. Let's just hope we can rescue our soldiers quickly and destroy their captors.

"Garbage...Absolutely Garbage"

Neal Boortz sums up yet another sign of the decline of our culture. This is reality TV gone wild. "Tonight on television, a new reality show. A date between Joey Buttafuoco and Amy Fisher. Yup, you hear me right. They're going a reunion dinner date between this insipid creep and his former teen squeeze." I guess pretty soon Tonya Harding will have HER own reality show.

There is No Such Thing As "Closure"

I saw this at Lucianne.com: "She was supposed to be one of the lucky ones, a woman who made it out of the Pentagon alive as hijackers took over American Airlines Flight 77 and came crashing into it. But though Marcie Bents survived the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the emotional impact transformed her into a traumatized and reclusive woman who, family members said, finally lost the will to live. Bents, 48, was found dead in her Severna Park home Tuesday morning. The cause of her death remains unknown pending the completion of an autopsy. But family members say there is no doubt that the impact of the Sept. 11 attacks destroyed the once happy-go-lucky woman, who ended up taking medical leave from her job while she holed up her in house, watching CNN and fretting about bombs and planes and even Muslim-looking taxi drivers."

"Stop Pacifying Foes"

Why is the concept of good and evil still so impossible for Americans to grasp? This column says, "As Hamas grooms the next generation of killers, the world must wake up and stop pacifying foes." It's been nearly 6 years since September 11, and if people haven't woken up yet, they never will.

Read about the obscene 'Holocaust Memorial Week' at UC Irvine. If you ever want to read posts that call a spade a spade, you can't go wrong at Little Green Footballs. "At the University of California Irvine, where the Muslim Students Union called for jihad and genocide following a disrupted speech by Daniel Pipes, and where shockingly antisemitic and hateful rhetoric is standard fare, the MSU is now holding ... get this ... a perverted 'Holocaust Memorial Week.' And to speak, they invited a notorious Muslim Holocaust denier, Imam Abdul Alim Musa. And our old friend, the thoroughly discredited America-hating fraud, Ward Churchill."

Today's news includes terrible floods in Missouri, fires in California, and a moronic mainstream media attempting to portray the New Jersey terrorists as bumbling pranksters. So, it's with thanks to Obscure Store that we have some comic relief: Man says prescription meds make him flash motorists. I'm sure the Bush-bashers will have many things to say about the visit of Queen Elizabeth, but here's a nice item about the welcoming ceremony.

The Rocket

I was a big baseball fan and Red Sox rooter when Roger Clemens first came up, and I always found him an amazing pitcher to watch. While I didn't love him as a man the way I loved Nolan Ryan, it was still an event every time he pitched. I'm not the baseball lover I once was, but I'd sure love to see Clemens end his career at age 45 with a World Series win with the Yankees.

President Bush and the Economy

Here's an excerpt from "Bush's Real Record On The Economy" by Investor's Business Daily. "Since 2002: Real gross domestic product has soared $1.64 trillion, or 16.5%, during a five-year stretch that has yet to see a downturn and that has witnessed average annual growth of 3%; Disposable personal income — what's left after taxes — has jumped $2.16 trillion, or 29%, to $9.68 trillion; Productivity, the fuel for future standards of living, has improved 14.3%; Overall employee compensation has expanded 4% a year; Net wealth, the amount people would have after paying off their debts, has swelled $15.2 trillion, or 38%, to $55.6 trillion. That gain in just five years is more than the total wealth amassed in the first 210 years of America's existence — an unprecedented surge; About 69% of Americans now own their homes, an all-time high; The jobless rate, now at 4.4%, remains below its 40-year average. Since August 2003, 7.8 million new jobs have been created;Tax receipts have surged 43%, or $757.6 billion, again thanks to economic growth. George W. Bush's economic miracle is both real and sustainable. Too bad he won't get credit for it until the current generation of biased journalists and academics has retired."

"We Win, They Lose"

From Blogs For Bush, an open letter to Pelosi and Reid: "To: Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, Harry Reid, U.S. Senate Democrat Leader: Congress has passed and President Bush has vetoed H.R. 1591, the Iraq Surrender Act of 2007. This legislation, which you worked to pass, sets a timetable for surrender. It pulls the rug out from under our troops. That is shameful and wrong. Your actions have already emboldened the enemy. Violent jihadists now know that the elected leadership of Congress would undermine the troops by holding their funding hostage to demands for surrender. This Congress would bring us back to the dark days of the 1970s, when the world doubted our staying power. Except only much worse. Withdraw in April 2008, and on May 1, Iraq becomes an unchecked den of terrorism at the heart of the Middle East -- a new base for the same people that struck our homeland on September 11th. I stand with our troops. I stand for victory. I support the President's veto and will urge my representatives to vote to sustain it. There can be one and only one outcome in Iraq: We win, they lose."

"Summer Storm"

Frightening news reported by Smooth Stone. Will the world even care?

Trying To Eliminate Conservative Talk Radio

Michael Savage can be so over-the-top that when he tells a particularly outrageous story, I usually have to run to the Internet for confirmation. When I heard about this last night, I really was amazed: "Allies close to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are promoting legislation, which if passed, will take off the air prominent conservative radio hosts such as Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly—along with thousands of smaller conservative broadcasters. The bill, entitled the "Media Ownership Reform Act," is sponsored by Rep. Maurice Hinchey, a leftist Democrat from New York. The legislation aims to revive the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” of the 1940’s: “all views” are to be given equal time on radio. In particular, the Federal Communications Commission would have the power to oversee and change radio and television content. The goal is to tilt the ideological balance of power away from the right on the nation’s air waves. The real force behind the effort to censor conservative talk radio is the progressive–philanthropist, George Soros". Read more at Rep. Hinchey's website.

The Pen is Mightier..

The pen is mightier than the Democrats. "Marine's father gives Bush pen, support. It was just a regular, black-inked ballpoint pen that President Bush used to sign his veto yesterday, instead of his usual personalized Cross pen. The pen was a gift from the father of a U.S. Marine killed in Iraq, who asked Mr. Bush last month to use it when he vetoed a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq."

Lawsuit and pants

Have you heard about this idiotic lawsuit yet? "Attorney (and now administrative judge) Roy L. Pearson, Jr. paid $10.50 to have some pants altered at his dry cleaners', but was dissatisfied with the results, so sued them on grounds that their "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign was consumer fraud. Among his claimed damages is the need for a car to find a new dry cleaner. Pearson at first demanded $1150 for a new suit, but turned down offers from the dry cleaner to settle for $3000, for $4600, and for $12000, and claims DC consumer protection law entitles him to $65 million. The Chung family has removed their "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign." The Chungs have spent a fortune defending themselves against this unbelievably frivolous lawsuit.

Good riddance!

If, as the Dems claim, there is no connection between Al Qaeda and Iraq, how come the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq was killed today in Iraq?
