It's The Time of the Season...

You don't say! "As temps soar, so does hot car risk". It's time once again for the annual "kids left to die in hot cars" competition. I ask this question every summer: Can someone tell me what happened to common sense?

John Edwards the Second?

Instapundit reports that Ann Althouse wonders "what if Weiner were a Republican"? Well, we all know the answer to that. This whole scandal has reminded me of how the mainstream media refrained from covering the John Edwards scandal -- and it finally took the National Enquirer, of all papers, to bring it to light. It's obvious: scandals are important only when they involve Republicans!

Reasons to Defeat Obama

Here are just a few reasons Obama must be defeated, as listed by Rush Limbaugh today on his "Week in Review" radio segment:
"Obama chose Palestinians over Israelis.  He did it after learning that Hamas became a part of the Palestinian ruling class, the terrorist group.  Obama chose the Muslim Brotherhood over freedom when he invited them to his Cairo speech and when he endorsed the misnamed Arab Spring without reservations or conditions.  We know now what's happening in Egypt.  Obama chose lawlessness and open borders over protecting innocent citizens when he sued Arizona.  My friends, there's a pattern here.  Obama chose voter intimidation over civil rights when he chose not to prosecute the New Black Panthers in Philadelphia.  Obama chose the public sector over the private sector with his stimulus slush fund.
Obama chose socialism over the private sector when he took over two US car companies.  Obama chose a path to socialized medicine over free market solutions to health care when he signed Obamacare into law.  Obama chose true cowboyism over Congress when fighting a war on Khadafy and Libya, ignoring the War Powers Act by saying, well, we're not really all in.  Obama chose czars over cabinet members.  He chose class warfare over prosperity when he demagogued taxing the rich over cutting out-of-control spending.  He chose politics over solutions when he failed to produce a budget or demand one from Congress.  It's clear who Obama is.  He's the sum of his choices.  We all are.  It's just that his choices ain't us."

Less Interesting Jewish Books

Who comes up with clever ideas like this? I liked some of the ideas in the comments, such as "What Makes Sammy Speed-walk" and "The Tedium of Yiddish."

"Churchillian"

The wonderful Caroline Glick discusses "The lessons of Netanyahu's triumph"
"It seems that everywhere we look we are told that we have no right to exist. From Ramallah to Gaza, to Egypt, to Scotland, Norway, and San Francisco we are told that we are evil and had better give up the store. And then Obama took to the stage on Thursday and told us that we have to surrender our ability to defend ourselves in order to make room for a Palestinian state run by terrorists committed to our destruction.
But then Netanyahu arrived in Washington and said, 'Enough already, we've had quite enough of this dangerous nonsense.'
And we felt things we haven't felt for a long time. We felt empowered. We felt we had a voice. We felt proud. We felt we had a leader. We felt relieved.
The American people, whose overwhelming support for Israel was demonstrated by their representatives in both houses of the Congress on Tuesday, also felt empowered, proud and relieved. Because not only did Netanyahu eloquently remind them of why they stand with Israel, he reminded them of why everyone who truly loves freedom stands with America.
It is true that the American lawmakers who interrupted Netanyahu's remarks dozens of times to applaud wanted to use his presence in their chamber to send a message of solidarity to the people of Israel. But during the course of his speech, it became apparent that it wasn't just their desire to show solidarity that made them stand and applaud so many times. Netanyahu managed to relieve them as well.
Since he assumed office, Obama has been travelling the world apologizing for America's world leadership. He has been lecturing the American people about the need to subordinate America's national interests to global organizations like the United Nations which are controlled by dictatorships that despise them.
Suddenly, here was an allied leader reminding them of why America is a great nation that leads the world by right, not by historical coincidence."

Unbroken

Cal Thomas writes about Louis Zamperini, the hero of Laura Hillenbrand's marvelous book "Unbroken". They don't make 'em like that any more!

Mark Haines

I've always liked Mark Haines and remember when he was a newsman at WPRO, so I was shocked to hear of his premature death. Here's a nice tribute by Lawrence Kudlow.

Argus Hamilton Quips

Here are some humorous takes on the news, including this item: "President Obama visited Westminster Abbey on Tuesday and signed his name to the guest book and added a salutation, but he signed 2008 by his signature. It was an honest mistake. The Teleprompter's copyright date was listed just below the words Best Wishes, Barack Obama."

A Politically Incorrect Truth

John Hawkins says, "You can lie about Republicans, conservatives, Israel and even America all you want, but if you tell the truth about the genocidal impulses of the Palestinian people and their suicide bomber culture, that’s 'hate speech.' It’s too bad that we have new tools like YouTube that like to sell themselves as a way for the average person to get around the 'gatekeepers,' when they censor political opinions that offend their politically correct, leftist sensibilities." (As seen at Tongue Tied)

Chelsea Flower Show

Here are some colorful photographs taken at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.

A Perfect Storm of Cooperation

Look at this wonderful tornado relief effort organized by a Facebook group! This is an instance when the Internet serves a great purpose.

Democratic Dependency

As always, Thomas Sowell has written a terrific column on the Democratic party and the entitlement class.
"We have all heard the old saying about how giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, while teaching him to fish feeds him for a lifetime. Independence makes for a healthier society, but dependency is what gets votes for politicians.
For politicians, giving a man a fish every day of his life is the way to keep getting his vote.
'Entitlement' is just a fancy word for dependency. As for the scary stories politicians tell, in order to keep the entitlement programs going, as long as we keep buying it, they will keep selling it."
I was thinking that when all those prisoners are released from the California prisoners, they will undoubtedly vote Democrat, too!

Boy or Girl? Only Its Parents Know For Sure!

When Neal Boortz read this ludicrous story in sarcastic tones on the radio last night, I thought he was joking!
"When Storm was born, the couple sent an email to the rest of their friends and family that stated: 'We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now — a tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place? ...)"

News from Joplin

OzarksFirst is a good website if you want to keep up with the news from tornado-ravaged Joplin. It's unbelievable that they are under a tornado watch in MO tonight.

Bravo, Bibi!

Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs describes Bibi's speech, given while Obama was living it up in Ireland.  Sign up here to join the petition against Obama's plan to give Israel away.  And at Instapundit, Roger Kimball says, "“Leave Israel alone and roll back the U.S. Government to its 1967 size.”  Now THAT I'd love to see!

O'y Bama

Says The Telegraph's James Delingpole about the visit of  our "Irish" president, "O'Bama? Oh puh-lease!"  In a very amusingly-worded  column, he writes,
"Obama is just doing now what all bullies and losers start doing when they realise how unpopular they are and that everyone is abandoning them. They suck up to anybody and everybody. They whore themselves piteously before enemies they once considered beneath their contempt. Fain will they fill their bellies with husks that swine eat – but which no man will give them: and serve them jolly well right, too!
By all means let us enjoy watching Obama smarm and grovel and ingratiate himself like some presidential Uriah Heep. But for heaven’s sake let us never give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s a cold fish and would certainly never show any mercy towards us were the roles to be reversed."

More Reactions to Obama's Vile Speech

Here is the Zionist response to Obama;  Alan Caruba points out that  there is no such thing as Palestine; and Roger L. Simon says that some American Jews now have doubts about Obama. Unfortunately, not enough of them do! And Gene Simmons from KISS sums things up very succinctly!

Catastrophe in Joplin

The reporting last night from tornado-ravaged Joplin, MO by The Weather Channel's Mike Bettes was some of the most compelling I have seen in quite some time.  I remember when TWC first started, nobody took the idea of am all-weather channel seriously. But now, if you want to see weather-related news, you should go straight to TWC rather than the networks.

Bibi 1, Obama 0

A reassuring headline, from Skip MacLure: "Obama’s Humiliating Repudiation: Bibi Takes Him To The Woodshed."
(As seen at Lucianne.com, where the comment is, "That's what leadership looks like. It's been so long.....")

Rapturous Results

If unemployment "unexpectedly" rises again, I guess we can blame it on some of these idiots who quit their jobs or stopped saving money to prepare for the Rapture That Never Happened.  They remind me of the panicky fools who bought barrels of wheat in preparation for Y2K.

Analyzing Obama's Speech

Ace of Spades comments on a National Review article
"There are other neat things, but the best observation, to me, is the fact that when Obama speaks of Israel, he speaks in terms of concrete demands that he, Obama, is laying upon Israel.
When he turns to the reciprocal concessions most urge on Palestine, however, he stops speaking in the command tense, stops speaking of demanding this or that, and simply says that Palestinians will do better if they stop killing Jews.
Not that they must stop killing Jews, mind you, like Israel must stop building settlements; just that hey, it would be better, you know? Or not, you decide.
For contrast, the writer quotes Bush, who was pretty command-tense with Palestinians: They must crack down on terror and dismantle the terror infrastructure.
Perceptive. Obama makes demands on Israel, but makes promises to the Palestinians. Tells you pretty much where he's coming from."

The Self-Destruction of Newt Gingrich

How's this for a scathing appraisal?  He has nobody to blame but himself, and once again, the Republicans are proving to be a great disappointment.

Our Shameless Society

Michelle Malkin comments on the latest entitlement scam. Everyone seems to now think that being on food stamps or disability is a good thing. How about bringing back the concept of stigma, and a sense of shame, to replace this "anything goes" way of life?

Peaceful Reminiscences

Read this item from Julia Gorin: "Check out this sweet 92-year-old Palestinian granny gloating about how her family and friends slaughtered the Jews in Hebron who had been their neighbors for 20 years before the big “catastrophe” of Israeli statehood ever happened." Yes, it's our friends, the Palestinians.

Allah Akbar!

When I heard about this on the news last night, I thought I was hearing things.  Unfortunately, it's true.  "West Palm Beach Church Praying For Osama Bin Laden".  How about praying for Osama's victims instead?

Betrayer!

What an outrage! Obama is a disgrace, and no friend of Israel:
"In a jaw dropping speech by the "Made in the USA" President, Obama called for the tiny Jewish state to cut itself up into tiny pieces and retreat to indefensible 1967 borders. Since the re-establishment of the state of Israel, she has fought off Muslim invasions and war. Never at any time did the Muslim world of over 56 countries recognize Israel's right to exist.
Obama called for 'contiguous' borders between Gaza, the West Bank and the Golan Heights -- cutting Israel in half again to give the Jew-hating Muslims one large and connected chunk of Israel ...
What other nation has ever had to give land away? What other nation has had its 'legitimacy' questioned by the world? What other nation has done more with less? What other nation has to justify its existence? Basta!
The '67 borders are indefensible.
Obama is going to perform at AIPAC in a few days, and con the gullible left-wing Jews with a few kind, deceptive words. Will the American diaspora become part of the annihilationist flank?"
There should be NO concessions on Israel's part!

Jewish News

Good: Glenn Beck drives me crazy much of the time, but he's always been supportive of Israel
Bad: Meanwhile, antisemitism in Europe keeps growing stronger.   I've always said that Jews seem to be the only group of people not considered politically correct enough to protect.

Light Bulb Lunacy

I am sick and tired of  this push for everything and everyone to be "green", and these "eco-friendly" light bulbs is another example of it.  One commenter says,  "Now I'm a hoarder in addition to being an islamophobe, a redneck, a racist, a moron and a dangerous radical. I can't wait to see what I'll be (called) tomorrow."

How ridiculous!  Whatever happened to extra-loud alarm clocks, or, even better,  parents? This is sheer laziness.

For Idiots Who Still Think We Shouldn't Have Killed Bin Laden

A good rebuttal: "U.S. justified in killing Osama Bin Laden" --  "Men who make war on innocent civilians and behead their prisoners live by a different law. They should expect to die by it as well."

Haveil Havalim Time

Haveil Havalim #317 (or is it #316?) is up at To Kiss a Mezuzah. Founded by Soccer Dad, Haveil Havalim is a carnival of Jewish blogs -- a weekly collection of Jewish and Israeli blog highlights, tidbits and points of interest collected from blogs all around the world. It's hosted by different bloggers each week and coordinated by Jack.

Politically Incorrect American Pride

Again, I cannot understand how things have gone so far downhill that you aren't permitted to display an American flag in your own country!  The only people who should truly be "offended" are Americans themselves, for letting this sort of thing happen over and over again.

In mittern drinnen?

Somehow, I find the news that Obama suddenly wants to drill more ominous than his opposition to it. Who can believe a thing he says?

South Korea ♥ Judaism

It's nice for a change to read about people who LIKE the Jews! From Instapundit: "Why South Koreans are in love with Judaism: "Koreans and Jews both have a long history of oppression and surviving adversity with nothing but their own ingenuity to thank. There are no natural resources to speak of in Korea, so, like the Jews, all we can develop is our minds."

Haveil Havalim and Weasel Time

Haveil Havalim #315: One Wedding And A Funeral was recently up at Esser Agaroth.  And here are the latest Watcher's Council winners.

Our Friends: Obama and the Arabs

Caroline Glick writes, "It is hard to believe, but it appears that in the wake of the Palestinian unity deal that brings the genocidal, al Qaida-aligned, local franchise of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Hamas into a partnership with Fatah, US President Barack Obama has decided to open a new round of pressure on Israel to give away its land and national rights to the Palestinians. It is hard to believe that this is the case. But apparently it is." Unfortunately, it's no longer hard to believe at all and that's the frightening thing.

Good Streaming Classical Music

After dealing unsatisfactorily with WQXR and AllClassical.org, both of which seem to play mostly unfamiliar classical music, I have finally discovered AccuRadio's Classical 101 channel, which at least plays some familiar music during my work day.  Another pretty good mix of classical music is on  California's 's kMozart.

Most Hated Baby Names

I Wouldn't Be Surprised

Thankfully, this item at Israpundit is only a spoof -- but I admit I got worried for a while! "U.S. to Apologize for Sea Burial of Osama bin Laden".

Illegal Obammigration

Read this article regarding an Obama speech and the outraged comments from readers at Lucianne.com.  One of the kinder remarks is as follows: "He was in his most ranting, most arrogant, most unattractive, most desperate-sounding mode. The usual stuff. The carefully crafted personal anecdotes. One immigrant astronaut to justify the legalization of 11+ million illegals. C'mon. How about the nascent astronauts among our legal population?  If it hadn't been so blatantly ugly, it would have been pathetic."

Photos from Cannes' Golden Age

Here are some great photos.  Most glamorous: Sophia Loren (#2) and Kim Novak (#8); image #22 is the saddest -- Sharon Tate (also, #13, Natalie Wood, who was so beautiful); Robert Redford (#25) has aged the most badly.

We're On The Road to Moroccan!

Here's the latest in bad baby names.  Parents who insist on giving their kids contrived names are self-absorbed idiots.

A Flood of Criticism

I agree that the flooding of the Mississippi River hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, though I'm not sure it has anything to do with Obama: "Virtually unreported by the national media - because it might detract from President Obama's victory lap over the U.S.'s successful targeted assassination of Osama bin Laden - is the greatest flood on the Mississippi River and lower parts of the Ohio River since 1937".  The Nashville floods were ignored by the media at this time last year, and the the same criticisms were made. Also, you rarely hear or see anything in the news about the triple disasters in Japan, an omission I find very odd.

Spineless Men

Worst excuse ever for a professional team's self-destruction.

Watcher's Council Winners

Here are the latest Watcher's Council winners, talking mostly about the biggest weasel of them all.

Compare and Contrast

Here's a good post comparing the removal of the Muslim men from the Charlotte flight with the removal of the davening Jewish men from a recent flight.  Muslims are politically correct despite 9/11; Jews are politically incorrect despite never having flown jets into buildings.

Sympathy for the Devil - Bemoaning a Terrorist's Demise

I thought about this line all night, posted by Instapundit:  "LEE SMITH on bin Laden’s death and the Islamic way of burial: 'To fret over bin Laden’s end, to lament the killing of an American enemy, identifies you as something other than a friend of the United States.'"  It's incomprehensible to me that anyone could find the destruction of a mass murderer to be anything other than a great victory. Political correctness has brainwashed these bleeding-hearts into thinking that "we are all one" and that nobody is evil (except the United States) -- even after September 11!

In Other News...

A great Ramirez cartoon (seen at Barking Moonbat Early Warning System)

"Muslim Wives"

Let's hope there isn't a spate of sympathy for the creatures who were Bin Laden's "wives".  I can just see it now -- giving interviews to Oprah Winfrey, or making a "Muslim Wives" reality TV show (which would probably become a hit).  As for their husband, he was lucky; he died an easier and quicker death than his victims did on September 11.

Seve Ballesteros

That decent human being and legendary golfer Seve Ballesteros has died after years of battling a brain tumor.

A Graphic Argument

Cold Fury has linked to this perfect
retort by Jim Geraghty
"What’s that, Mr. President? The photos are 'very graphic'? So was watching people jump to their deaths from the blazing Twin Towers, you hyperactive condescending nanny. About ten years ago, we had a national traumatic experience as we all watched thousands of people die before our very eyes when the towers collapsed. Since then, we’ve seen Daniel Pearl beheaded, Madrid subway cars blown up, London buses and trains blown up, Bali nightclubs blown up, a Beslan school turned into a massacre site. We’ve seen enough death and dismemberment of innocent civilians to last a lifetime. So pardon me for thinking that our delicate sensibilities might be able to handle seeing the man with more American blood on his hands than anyone else on the planet missing an eye and with some brain matter exposed.
What’s that? It might be 'an incitement to additional violence'? Show me one extremist Muslim who’s not going to go into a violent rage over killing bin Laden, but who will do so if he sees the photos. Go out and find him. A few weeks ago, a bunch of Afghanis went on a rampage and killed a bunch of aid workers because Pastor Pyro down in Florida decided to flame-broil a Koran. A controversial book, a cartoon, the latest conspiracy theory — it doesn’t matter. These guys are just looking for excuses to run around and kill people in a frenzy.
I am tired of my government’s adjusting its policies in these inane attempts to placate the triggers of rage among unstable people — as if it’s our fault for provoking them."

UN-thinkable!

Here's more proof that the United Nations is a complete joke: "(Reuters) - U.N. human rights investigators called on the United States on Friday to disclose whether there had been any plan to capture Osama bin Laden and if he was offered any 'meaningful prospect of surrender and arrest.'" Someone ought to investigate them!   And in England, there was a lovely demonstration by the religion of peace.

Better (Five Centuries) Late Than Never!

Gee, that's a relief: "Jews receive apology over Spanish Inquisition executions"

Gabbing About Gas

Fox News reports that Journalists Shield Obama From Road Rage Over High Gas Prices. (They should have used sarcastic quotation marks around the word "journalists".)  David Limbaugh writes: "Obama is no less determined to cram his preferred energy alternatives down Americans' throats than he was to force feed us socialized medicine. Again, where is the outrage?" And here's a coupon I hope we never see.

Gone With The Wind

Here's a poignant story I heard on the radio about personal artifacts literally gone with the wind from the tornadoes:  "She started a Facebook page, 'Pictures and Documents Found After the April 27, 2011 Tornadoes.'  It's a virtual lost-and-found, trying to match victims with personal items that were swept away in the storms.  Many of the items were scattered across the southeast, some traveling many miles.  'We, personally, found mail in our yard from Smithfield, Mississippi, which is between 175 and 200 miles away,' she says"

Just Plane Impressive

Look at the amazing detail of the world's largest model airport.

Media For Obama

Ace of Spades HQ gives another good comparison of the media treatment of Bush vs. Obama in his post 7 Minutes Vs. 16 Hours: How The Media Reports Delay. Whenever I hear of, or read about, another example of the Obamamedia, I think of the line from "The Godfather" where Tattaglia says, "He had all the judges and politicians in his pocket and refused to share them."  Well, Obama has all the media in his pocket, and if not for Fox News and the conservative bloggers, we'd all be fainting and swooning, too.

Twitter Twit

That idiot football player Rashard Mendenhall tweeted this: "I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style." Well, he's saying what moronic celebrities like Rosie O'Donnell and others have been saying for years. This Bleacher Report post sums it up this way, " know that a group of psychopaths killed over 2,800 Americans on September 11th, 2001. I don't give a damn whether the guy on my fantasy team agrees."
Here's another naysayer:  "Judge says he's 'saddened' by bin Laden's death".  Yeah, and I'm sorry  this bleeding heart moron is a judge!

Musn't Celebrate the Victory of Good Over Evil

Of course we have to have people like this idiot Anglican priest putting a damper on everything by complaining that "Celebrating Osama bin Laden's killing is wrong".  If he wants to mourn, nobody's stopping him!  The responses to his column are wonderful, including this one:  "Where do I begin with this stupid blog from a stupid man. 'The West was appalled and deeply offended by the street celebrations in Tehran and elsewhere after 9/11'.  Yes, the PALESTINIANS (odd that you left them out) and other Muslim peoples were CELEBRATING the DEATHS of INNOCENT men, women and children. In case you missed it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...  The US citizens were CELEBRATING the DEATH of a MASS MURDERER, and not innocent people. You can't grasp the difference here George?"  George Pitcher should watch "Inside 9/11" to refresh his memory. (Oh, and here's  that YouTube link the commenter mentions.)

Headline of the Day

You'll be nodding your head when you read this article: "Israel to US: Congrats on bin Laden kill, now stop criticizing us!"

Grammar Pet Peeves

I always enjoy reading things like this,  because I feel the same way.  Unfortunately, good grammar, spelling, and punctuation just don't seem to be taken very seriously nowadays, a continuation of the dumbing-down of our society.

Holocaust Remembrance

Read about the March of the Living,  at Auschwitz.

Wanted: Dead...

The Weekly Standard show Osama's "Wanted" poster, updated by the FBI. However, I find the word "deceased" too nice, as if he died of old age; it should say "killed"! Even though the killing of Osama was a great psychological victory, it won't stop younger terrorists from taking his place and wanting to kill Americans. NOW can we stop kowtowing to Muslims?
(By the way, I have always hated the touchy-feely word "closure" and have been hearing it all day today. This wasn't "closure" -- it was justice)

OSAMA IS (FINALLY) DEAD

And good riddance! (I double-checked at Al Jazeera just to make sure.)  I'm just sorry that it couldn't have been President Bush who made this announcement, rather than Obama.  His Clintonian delay of the 10:30 press conference didn't help matters any, and I had to turn off the TV before he spoke. Will The Messiah's ratings skyrocket overnight? Sorry, my leg isn't tingling, but my stomach is churning.

No Surprise in Egypt

Didn't we all know this would happen? The only ones who didn't know it -- or wouldn't admit to it -- were the liberals!

"Top 10 Barack Obama Blunderings"

Human Events lists the Top 10 Barack Obama Blunderings. (Only 10?)

Searching for the Real Culprits

I got a kick out of this analogy: "The president may not mind higher gasoline prices, but he doesn't want to take the blame for them. So he's pretending to do something about them, while actually doing nothing. Attorney General Eric Holder will investigate whether 'speculators' have been driving up prices, Mr. Obama has announced. This is like O.J. Simpson's search for 'the real killers'. But the irony is lost on most in the 'mainstream' media." Also, I heard Rush Limbaugh talk about the fact that the EPA won't let Shell drill for oil in Alaska -- but they can drill in Brazil.  Why isn't there more outrage over the self-destructive ban on drilling in our own country?  It's getting to the point where we need a Jed Clampett or a Jett Rink to help out!
