Leap Year Lore

Some interesting tidbits about Leap Year.

Hooray for Harry!

A nice article about Prince Harry: "It is to be hoped that the example set by Prince Harry and thousands of other young British and American troops will help shame half-hearted European countries into doing more on the battlefields of Afghanistan. The cowardly indifference of Paris and Berlin in particular to a war that will have consequences for the whole of the West must come to an end. The chivalrous courage of a prince fighting for a noble cause is a reminder of what Britain and her closest ally the United States represent -- two great nations selflessly defending the cause of liberty across the world."

Media Spin

Moonbattery is showing these photos of Hillary & Obama, to highlight the biased way the media is covering them.

Does This Make Sense?

This story says that there are thousands of aliens in our flight schools again. But the FBI, who should be doing something about this, is instead wasting time investigating Roger Clemens!

"Explaining The Left’s Hunger for Obama"

This is an explanation for Obamamania: "The enthusiasm they have for The Candidate – in light of his tissue-paper-thin résumé and lack of substantive new ideas – confirms that the only thing they truly care about is his unparalleled ability to restore their long-dormant good feeling about being liberal again."

This ad speaks volumes.

Music: The Universal Language

Isn't this a great story? "The New York Philharmonic won three standing ovations after the first-ever performance by a U.S. orchestra in North Korea, raising hopes the round of musical diplomacy will boost ties as the U.S. presses the country to end its nuclear weapons program."

The Axis of Muslims

I realize the Muslims are forgiven every atrocity, but this can't be excused away: "Yes, it’s Assud the Jew-eating Hamas rabbit, appearing again on the Hamas kid’s show Pioneers of Tomorrow with zombie child host Saraa, urging Palestinian children to boycott Danish products, kill anyone who 'insults' Mohammed, and wipe out Israel."

Hatred From Iran

Israpundit reports on the Jerusalem Post's reply to Iran's vile threats against Israel: "..On Tuesday, Israel officially asked the UN Security Council to condemn Iran’s 'direct and public incitement to commit genocide.' Which nation will stand up and join us? How long will more than 130 parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which explicitly makes incitement to genocide a crime, continue to encourage Iran with their silence? Which leaders and nations will speak out and act - not only in Israel’s defense but in their own?"

Rock 'n Roll Yiddish

This is a great story: "Folk singer Gerry Tenney breaks into song midway through an interview: 'Ze ikh a royte tir ikh vill es farbn schvartz….' Sound familiar? Perhaps not in Yiddish, but in English: 'I see a red door and I want it painted black….' Yes, the Rolling Stones classic is only the latest to which Tenney, 66, has turned his attention. When the California-based musician put his Yiddish version of The Beatles’ 'A Hard Day’s Night' — 'Shvereh Togidikeh Nacht' — up on his band’s Web site, www.californiaklezmer.com, it wasn’t long before he was hearing feedback from around the world."

The New York Slimes

Read Andrea Peyser on the smearing of John McCain: "Here we go again. Failing miserably to nail down a story never prevented the Newspaper of Record and Rumor from shooting itself in the foot, or more sensitive regions, when vanquishing enemies. Why start now? The New York Times is not an organ to pass up a chance to mug a Republican, disrespect a soldier, or destroy the lives of men born with white skin. Not when it suits its agenda."

Good Question

Neil Boortz asks: "Why are we bailing these people out? More and more talk of using taxpayer money to bail out all of these folks who are in trouble with their mortgages. Is this how we teach the idea of personal responsibility? You buy a home you damned well know you can't afford; you borrow more money than you can hope to pay back; and when you get in trouble you start whining for the government to seize some money from other people who have been more responsible than you have .. all to bail you out."

Haveil Havalim #154 is Up!

Haveil Havalim #154 is up at Esser Agaroth. As always, you can find a lot of interesting posts and discover new weblogs. Once again, here is the idea behind Haveil Havalim: "Founded by Soccer Dad, Haveil Havalim is a carnival of Jewish blogs -- a weekly collection of Jewish & Israeli blog highlights, tidbits and points of interest collected from blogs all around the world. It's hosted by different bloggers each week and coordinated by Jack. The term 'Haveil Havalim,' which means "Vanity of Vanities," is from Qoheleth, (Ecclesiastes) which was written by King Solomon. King Solomon built the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and later on got all bogged down in materialism and other 'excesses' and realized that it was nothing but 'hevel,' or in English, 'vanity.'"

Africa Loves Bush

The Anchoress is not surprised that President Bush's very well-received visit to Africa has gotten little press coverage here. Anything favorable to him is practically ignored. And Gateway Pundit shows African billboards the sentiment of which we will unfortunately never see in this country.

A Despicable Person

I've heard stories like this before, but this is one of the worst. Instead of wasting time trying to figure out what made this liar tick, they should save their sympathy for all the people she betrayed. I've known people who have had cancer, and who died from it, so I find this hoax even more obscene. (via Lucianne.com)

Our Spineless Government

Yesterday, Joel Arends asked, "Does Congress Realize We're at War? At midnight tonight America will become much more susceptible to a terrorist act. It will happen because the Democrat-controlled Congress failed to reauthorize the Protect America Act. This legislation gives our military, intelligence, and law-enforcement communities the tools they need to conduct surveillance on terrorists. Yet, instead of fighting to make us safer Congress, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, blocked a vote on this bill all week and then went home on a twelve-day recess........When will our Congress begin to display even a small amount of the courage that our men women fighting for us display day in and day out? Their refusal to reauthorize this legislation is more than an act of submission to trial lawyers, Moveon.org, and the far-left wing of a party that fails to recognize that we face deadly threats from radical Islamic terrorists. Its an act of political cowardice. It's a sign of an unwillingness to respect the sacrifices made by the members of the military who need that intelligence to successfully accomplish their mission."

Antisemites

Smooth Stone reports on antisemitism in America: "Anti-Israel protesters in Ann Arbor, Michigan are targeting Jewish families arriving for Sabbath worship at Beth Israel Congregation. Help support SPURN, a website created to defend the victims of Jew-haters and Israel bashers, like Catherine Wilkerson and Blaine Coleman, who are among those who have harassed the Jewish worshippers at Beth Israel congregation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. For more information on the Jew-haters, go here.

A Pro Semite

Atlas Shrugs has an encouraging story:"French President Nicolas Sarkozy, facing a tide of criticism over his call for schoolchildren to 'adopt' Jewish child victims of the Holocaust, hit back on Friday saying France had to raise children 'with open eyes'.In a speech praising faith that also drew fire from secularists, Sarkozy told France's Jewish community on Wednesday that every 10-year-old schoolchild should be 'entrusted with the memory of a French child victim of the Holocaust'".

Krauthammer on Obama

Charles Krauthammer has a good analysis of Barack Obama : "Obama has an astonishingly empty paper trail. He's going around issuing promissory notes on the future that he can't possibly redeem. Promises to heal the world with negotiations with the likes of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Promises to transcend the conundrums of entitlement reform that require real and painful trade-offs and that have eluded solution for a generation. Promises to fund his other promises by a rapid withdrawal from an unpopular war -- with the hope, I suppose, that the (presumed) resulting increase in American prestige would compensate for the chaos to follow. Democrats are worried that the Obama spell will break between the time of his nomination and the time of the election, and deny them the White House. My guess is that he can maintain the spell just past Inauguration Day. After which will come the awakening. It will be rude."

"True Evil"

The Best of the Web comments on news that Al Qaeda is being supplied with retarded women who are then used as suicide bombers: "Read that again: The head of a mental hospital (allegedly) provided women under his care to al Qaeda to use as human bombs, for the purpose of murdering as many innocent people as possible. We are at a loss for words to characterize the depth of this evil. It makes you wonder about the folks who condemn America with such self-righteous zeal over morally ambiguous practices like 'waterboarding' terrorists or even generally accepted practices such as holding enemy combatants for the duration of wartime. One suspects that they do so primarily out of fear--in order to close their minds to the contemplation of true evil."

Watcher's Council Nominations

Soccer Dad has a list of the Watcher's Council nominations for this week.

Show Your Solidarity!

Michelle Malkin says: "Show your solidarity. Two years ago, the Mohammed cartoon conflagration consumed the world and the blogosphere helped lead the way in fighting back. Longtime readers will remember that this site hammered the issue in support of Denmark. 'Sammenhold,' you may recall, is the Danish word for solidarity. With the arrests this week of five jihadists accused of plotting to murder one of the Danish cartoonists, it's time to demonstrate sammenhold again."

Don't forget to stop by Soccer Dad's, to read about the Carnivals being juggled.

"Clinton Amnesia"

For those who have forgotten the years of the Clinton Administration, here is a reminder: "A form of collective amnesia, powered by media bent on forgetting inconvenient truths, continues to shield the candidacy of Hillary Clinton."

Tom Lantos

Today, many Jewish groups are mourning Tom Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in the U.S. Congress: "As the Ranking Member and, most recently, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Lantos stood out among Israel's most consistently enthusiastic supporters. He was one of the most outspoken critics of Israel's enemies and of the hypocritical treatment of Israel in the UN and other international bodies. AJC recalls how Lantos confronted the hateful invective directed against Israel and Jews at the UN Conference Against Racism in Durban in 2001."

Bash the Bishop!

Play "Bash the Bishop" and vent your outrage at the Archbishop of Canterbury's statement that Muslim Sharia law is unavoidable in Britain. As the UK Sun says, "Dr Williams’ extraordinary claim is a huge propaganda coup for extremists plotting to end centuries of the British way of life".

"Declaration Against Genocide"

Read about David Horowitz and his Declaration Against Genocide:
"The David Horowitz Freedom Center has launched a new initiative: an invitation to campus groups around the country to stand against genocide, endorsing a new Declaration Against Genocide. The Declaration notes in its preamble that the Sudanese and other Africans have been victims of a slow-motion genocide, and that Islamo-fascists in the Middle East are preparing a new genocide against the Jews. In describing the objectives of the Declaration, David Horowitz, President of the Freedom Center, says: 'We are asking all campus groups to repudiate the genocidal passage in the Islamic Hadith which reads: 'The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: 'The time [of judgment] will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews and kill them; until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!'' Horowitz continues: 'We are also asking all campus groups, including the Muslim Students Association, to condemn the Hamas Charter which says: 'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.' Signers of the Declaration will also be asked to repudiate the Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has said 'The accomplishment of a world without America and Israel is both possible and feasible,' and Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah, who called the Jews 'a cancer which is liable to spread again at any moment,' and has said, 'If the Jews 'all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.' These are hateful doctrines that threaten the lives not only of Jews, but of all Americans."

Watcher's Council Winners

Soccer Dad reports on the winning entries from the Watcher of Weasels Watcher's Council.

"Terrorists Cannot Be Muslims"

Here we go again with more politically correct moonbattery. Says Neal Boortz:
"The Philippines has passed the third reading of a bill that will forbid the media from describing suspected terrorists as Muslims. In other words, it would be illegal to tell the truth. This bill is known as 'An Act Prohibiting the Use of the Words 'Muslim' and 'Christian' in Mass Media to describe any Person Suspected of or Convicted for Having Committed Criminal or Unlawful Acts, and Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof.' Boy is that a mouthful. It was, not surprisingly, introduced by a Muslim Congressman. That 'Christian' word was thrown in there to appease the masses, I guess. Aren't you excited? This government is going to use its power to 'end the stereotyping of Muslims as kidnappers, drug pushers and terrorists.' Since when did it become the government's role to make it illegal to tell the truth?"

The New York Times in Six Words

Michelle Malkin is running her own contest to sum up the New York Times in 6 words. Her suggestions: "All Leftist propaganda fit to print" and "Our enemies’ favorite newspaper, hands down."

What A Joke

Here's a good joke from Wicked Thoughts:
"A wise old priest. The old priest lay dying in the hospital. For years, he had faithfully served the people of the nation's capital in Washington D.C. He motioned for his nurse to come near. 'Yes, Father?' said the nurse, 'I would really like to see Bill and Hillary Clinton before I die,' whispered the priest. 'I'll see what I can do, Father' replied the nurse. The nurse sent the request to the Senate and waited for a response. Soon the word arrived; the Clintons would be delighted to visit the priest. As they went to the hospital, Hillary commented to Bill, 'I don't know why the old priest wants to see us, but it certainly will help our images and might even get me elected President. After all, I'm IN IT TO WIN IT.' Bill agreed-- it was a very good thing for her campaign once they put out a press release about it. When they arrived at the priest's room, the old priest took Bill's hand in his right hand and Hillary's hand in his left. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest's face. Finally Bill Clinton spoke. 'Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?' The old priest slowly replied, 'I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.' 'Amen' said Bill. 'Amen' said Hillary. The old priest continued...'He died between two lying thieves. I would like to do the same.'"

America's Mayor

Instapundit links to this article about Rudy Giuliani: "Charles Hill looks back on the Giuliani campaign, with harsh words for The New York Times, which he calls 'a never-ceasing slander machine.'"

John McCain and the Jewish Vote

Read about John McCain and the Jewish vote: "McCain is the clear favorite of Jewish Republicans now that former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has dropped out."

Here are 50 ways to beat the cold.

Thoughts on Super Tuesday

Little Green Footballs says:
"Super Tuesday is upon us. I tossed and turned all night, haunted by the ghosts of Rudy and Duncan. And when I awoke, it was all not a dream-we really do have to choose between McCain and Romney. Sometime during that unrestful interval, I decided: I'm pulling the lever for Mitt Romney today. If John McCain is the nominee, we're going to have at least four years of a Democrat in the White House-and with some estimating that Iran will have a bomb within two years, that means we'd have a Democrat facing a nuclear-armed Iran. (Because we know they're not going to do anything serious to stop it.) Disaster. So I'm voting for Mitt, and I'm going to convince myself that I'm doing it wholeheartedly, without reservation-even if, in my dreams, I know the truth."

Carnival-Juggling Time!

Please be sure to visit Soccer Dad for another Carnival roundup.

Newsy Neal

Every day I read Neal Boortz's column Nealz Nuze, in which he always speaks his mind. Make sure you read today's edition, which includes such topics as Britain giving extra welfare benefits to men with multiple wives; Mississippi's law making it illegal for some restaurants to serve the obese; and more on Hillary's plan to garnishee your wages.

The Latest in Hillarycare

Here is yet another outrageous proposal from Hillary Clinton. Vote for her at your own risk: "WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to have workers' wages garnisheed if they refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans."

Crime Pays

Andrea Peyser shows that crime pays: "Leona Helmsley was right: Only the little people pay taxes. The message, fellow citizens, is: If you're rich, famous and have a stubborn streak as wide as the Suwanne River, you too don't have to pay your fair share. Take it from Wesley Snipes!"

Hang Up and Don't Try Again

I hate annoying cell phones and clueless cell phone abusers, so it's always fun for me to read how others deal with this rudeness. Here are some great examples used during live theatre performances.

Pip Pip and Cheeri-oy!

From Little Green Footballs, this story about a kosher dinner to held at Windsor Castle this April, to mark Israel's 60th anniversary.

Hippie Hippie Shake

I just saw this story on TV; the hippies of Berkeley, along with Code Pink, are protesting the Marines' recruiting station there. Blogs for Victory says,
"This is disgusting and indefensible - all too typical of the hate-America left, however. But if this is the way Berkeley wants it, then we should give it to them - pull the Marines out…but also pull out every other aspect of federal power…which would include the massive amounts of money UC Berkeley gets. Pull out every red cent - Berkeley doesn’t want to be part of America, then let it get by without America…"
