Piotrokov, Poland

Here's a touching account of a visit to Poland.

Whatever Happened to Decorum?

You know how they always show other governments' politicians getting into shouting matches & physical brawls; I have a feeling that Rep.Anthony Weiner's tirade may be playing on TV in their countries! What an embarrassment.

Obamoronic

Check out the winners of Rep. Darrell Issa's ObamaCare Caption Contest. They may have to come with another caption contest soon to name the travesty that is Maxine Waters' latest idea. What are they doing to this country?

Here We Go Again

Yet another creature competing for the title of "Mother" of the Year. Can't they just sterilize killers like this? It's a shame that having children is so easy; you wish somehow women could be tested before being able to get pregnant, for things like mental stability; the financial means to raise a child; and above all, maternal instinct.

Argus Hamilton Quips

Here are some more takes on the news from Argus Hamilton, including this comment: "Joe Biden traveled to Yellowstone National Park Monday to give a speech to the park employees. There were hundreds of tourists in the crowd. People came from all over the country to see Old Faithful spew, and after the speech they watched a geyser."

Dear Mayor Bloomberg: You Idiot!

I've never cared for Michael Bloomberg, but I do like this Clifford May column on the subject of the mosque at Ground Zero.

A View of Obama

I love this Ramirez cartoon; as always, just imagine if this were Bush rather than Obama.

"Parents" of the Day

These two monsters should be executed in the most painful way imaginable. Note that neither of the so-called "parents" has been named -- why not? I can't wait to hear the excuses that will undoubtedly be made for them, especially for the "mother". We can only hope their victims will be defended as strongly.

First Arab Female IDF Soldier

Read this story about the IDF’s first Arab female combat soldier: "Elinor believes that being a combat soldier means that she is granting all Israeli citizens, including Israeli Arabs like her parents, a better and quieter life. 'At the end of the day, this will always be my home too', she says before expressing her thought that despite the conflict and difficulties, the hope for peace still exists. 'I still believe that peace will come and faith creates reality'."

A Really Small Shew!

Vanity, thy name is moron!

The Obesity Police Want YOU!

I liked Greg Crosby's column on the obesity police. Why penalize the rest of us? As he says, "I'm sorry, but if I want a double-double burger with fries, or a donut or a hot fudge sundae, I don't care what the calorie count is. I know it's fattening, leave me alone. And if there are grown-ups who don't know that these things are fattening, then they're way too stupid to read calorie counts anyway." This goes for the salt police, the peanut allergy police, and all the others as well.

The Photos of Steve McCurry

This is a good article about the photos of Steve McCurry, who photographed the famous "Afghan girl" cover of National Geographic. I remember that issue, and I remember seeing a documentary in which McCurry searched for that girl years later.

From Doug Ross @ Journal, some excellent suggestions on who the neighbors of the Ground Zero mosque ought to be.

A Sign of the Times

Here's a sign I'd like to see more of: "After spending the last two years out of work, 23-year-old Mark Wheeldon was fed up of living on benefits and concocted a plan to get him noticed on the job market."

"The Horrors of Gaza"

The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler offers this helpful primer.

Argus Hamilton Quips

Here's Argus Hamilton's take on the news, including these stories:

"Great Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron was a hit speaking to White House tourists Tuesday. He said he loves America and everything it's done for the world. So there are some differences he has with President Obama which can never be bridged."

"President Obama thanked the Senate for extending unemployment benefits to jobless Americans. He was sincere. He's grateful that members of his administration won't have to go on food stamps between the time they're fired and the time they're rehired."

Breeders' Cup Award

I was infuriated when I heard about these lowlives on the news last night. In an update to the story, the newscaster said it was still to be decided whether the 5 neglected children would be returned to the so-called "parents". Unbelievable! If anything, this disgusting duo should be sterilized to prevent them from having any more children to neglect. (By the way, they also had 19 mistreated dogs, and there will probably be more outrage over the dogs than over the kids.)

Talking Heads

This video parody is hilarious!

No Mosque at Ground Zero

Take a look at this powerful ad.

Politically Correct Honor Rolls

As usual, the smart kids are shortchanged so schools can dumb down the honor roll concept: "Schools across New England have been publishing their end-of-year honor rolls in the local papers. Many of these schools - from Rockport to Bedford, N.H. to Cumberland, R.I. - also include something called the 'Effort Honor Roll.' This is the honor roll for kids who, well, didn't actually make the honor roll but should feel good about it, anyway. You tried, you failed. Congratulations!"

For Book Lovers

"75 Signs You’re a Bibliophile" (via Interesting Pile)

Unhappy Anniversary

Deroy Murdock summarizes "A Year and a Half of President Obama": "Team Obama marks 18 surprisingly incompetent months in office." It's not surprising to me at all! Every day has brought another outrage. Let's just hope we can find a Republican with spine to run against him in 2012.

Does This Ring a Bell?

Well, this certainly sounds familiar. Just substitute the word "American" for "British" in the headline.

The 9/11 of Basketball

I heard about this comparison on ESPN Radio this morning. What's wrong with these people?! "[Dwyane Wade] is getting flak for comparing a possible losing streak to 9/11."

Blame-o-nomics

I like this column from Canada Free Press that asks, "Exactly What 'Mess' Did Your Policies Save Us from, Mr. President?" and lists the mess HE has created. He sure can't blame Bush for that!

Don't Be Another Obama

Peggy Noonan has some advice for Britain's Prime Minister. The Telegraph headline reads, "David Cameron, don't follow Barack Obama. When David Cameron visits America next week he will learn a lot – about how not to run a country, says Peggy Noonan."
"Advice on your visit? Love America. It not only deserves it, at the moment it needs it. Our morale is low. Do you want to help preserve what has been called the Special Relationship? (Actually, I don't know: do you?) If you do, then when you speak here, speak of your love for this great nation. We don't, not in a deep way and not enough. Even our President doesn't. He tries, but he can't get it right because it's all so abstract to him. He associates patriotism with nationalism. But patriotism springs from legitimate love and gratitude, nationalism from shallow aggression and conceit. Obama confuses the two, can't get them straight in his head, and winds up saying little, badly. People don't like this, either. Anyway, when you speak of America speak with love. People will hear you. It will break through the clutter, as your media obsessives say. It will be a new message, or one Americans haven't heard in a while done well, and truly. And don't focus-group it. Mean it."

Grand Rounds

Grand Rounds is now underway at the South African blog called other things amanzi.

Beggars CAN Be Choosers

John Derbyshire's column is titled "The Jobs Americans Should Not Have to Do? One must wonder what kind of society we have become." I certainly do wonder; I've always found it shameful that healthy young men in particular refuse to work at certain jobs; we actually have to import foreign workers or rely on illegals instead. How can you complain about being unemployed and yet refuse to do whatever is available to earn your own way? Whatever happened to "Beggars can't be choosers"?

A Puzzlement!

If you like doing word Jumbles, and if you dislike Obama, then this puzzle is for you! I found the clues more appropriate than the solution itself.

I Love My Toyota!

I love my Toyota, so this news made me happy and also confirmed my suspicions.

You're a Liberal If...

Arnold Ahlert lists the things that liberals and progressives believe, and they make me glad I'm a conservative.

As an introvert, I was amazed at the perfect description when I came across this Atlantic Monthly article years ago, and which I re-discovered through another website just yesterday. Make sure to send it to your favorite introverts; they'll thank you!

Art for Stupidity's Sake

Here's the latest excuse for "art": "'The Mickey Mouse head and swastika are on the same level — they don't mean anything and they are both part of the globalized world,'" Czarnecka said." These so-called artists lack common sense and common decency.

Standing Up For His Principals

This is a must-read by Dennis Prager: "If every school principal gave this speech at the beginning of the next school year, America would be a better place."

Show Me The Money

Yet another example of entitlement mentality: "One such case involved a Chicago-area Postal Service employee making $80,000 per year. According to the GAO, the woman, who was not named in the report, claimed on her LIHEAP application that she had no income. However, when pressed by GAO investigators, she admitted that she was not entitled to the benefits but wanted the money anyway because: “Times are tough and I needed the money.” She also said that she saw 'long lines' and wanted some 'free money.'

Tinker, Tailor, Lowlife, Thief

I hope they throw the book at this criminal: "A hospital-obsessed con man who impersonated a grocery heir to get medical care duped doctors from Manhattan to Brooklyn to New Jersey into giving him tens of thousands of dollars in free treatment for a bogus case of cancer." Stories like these always infuriate me.

"The Voice of God"

Read about the passing of a legend, Yankees announcer Bob Sheppard. His voice reminded me of that of Winston Burdett, who covered the Vatican many years ago.

Tax and Spend

I guess this must be Bush's fault, too: "The Bush tax cuts don’t just offer tax relief to the wealthiest Americans. They offer it to just about anyone who pays federal income taxes. Their scheduled demise next year will raise the tax bill of nearly every taxpayer, unless Congress makes changes and the president jumps on board."

The Delusion Continues

That evil hatemonger is at it once again: "Ahmadinejad questions 'fairy tale' Holocaust, denies being anti-Semite". If the Holocaust is a fairy tale, then he must be the big bad wolf.

National Arab Space Administration

Betsy has been cruising the web and has found some new proposed logos for NASA at Michelle Malkin's.

"Language Police"

I agree with this column from Salon that asks, "What ever happened to 'You're welcome'?"

Star Spangled Post

Here are some patriotic covers from the Saturday Evening Post. These three artists were always my favorites.

To Kill a Mockingbird

"To Kill a Mockingbird" was published fifty years ago. I've read it at least 5 times, and I love it every time; in fact, I just read it again! The only thing I have never been able to figure out is what exactly was wrong with Boo Radley.

"Some of My Best Friends Are Jewish"

As they say at Free Republic: "barf alert"! Read this Haaretz headline, plus this: "During the interview Wednesday, when confronted with the anxiety that some Israelis feel toward him, Obama said that 'some of it may just be the fact that my middle name is Hussein, and that creates suspicion.' 'Ironically, I've got a Chief of Staff named Rahm Israel Emmanuel. My top political advisor is somebody who is a descendent of Holocaust survivors. My closeness to the Jewish American community was probably what propelled me to the U.S. Senate,' Obama said." Actually no - some of it may just be the fact that you've shown nothing but antipathy towards Israel and have done nothing but kowtow to Muslims!

Truth in Reporting

I am sick to death of these horrible reality shows featuring foul-mouthed nonentities like the Kardashians and the various housewives, and tired of seeing the likes of Kate Gosselin, Lady Gaga, and Lindsay Lohan fawned over constantly in the news, in the tabloids, and on TV. So it was a refreshing change today to see, instead of the usual sympathetic treatment, this great column by Andrea Peyser today: "Enough! Blubbering, bawling mega boob Lindsay Lohan doesn't deserve a speck of your sympathy or support, nor a dollop of respect. What Linz desperately needs is a swift kick in the teeth, a foot in the backside and a broom with which to clean up her many messes, which I would not touch with a full-body condom. She's finished. Over. Once, she was a role model for young ladies, the fresh-faced child star who entered our living rooms and movie theaters with heaps of promise and every opportunity known to man and the creator. Now, she poses a dangerous example to girls everywhere, proving that, with enough money, fame and drugs, one never has to take responsibility for one's behavior."

Traveling on the Orient Express

If you want to see real class, I hope you get to see "David Suchet On The Orient Express: A Masterpiece Special". He plays Agatha Christie's Belgian detective Hercule Poirot to such perfection on TV that it was quite a surprise to see him last night without his famous mustaches, and with a British accent! This special traces the history and the route of the famous and exquisite Orient Express through Europe.

"Money for Nothing": the Video

Neal Boortz played this song on his radio show last night. The video's a hit with me!

Entitlement Nation

I am one of the Americans not willing to pay higher taxes, and in fact, I'd like to see a cut in entitlements for a change.

Lost in (Politically Correct) Space

Has everyone gone insane? I thought I was hearing things when I saw this on the news this morning. What in the world does NASA have to do with Muslim self-esteem?? "Michael Griffin, who headed NASA during the last four years of the Bush administration, says the space agency’s new goal to improve relations with the Islamic world and boost Muslim self-esteem is a 'perversion' of NASA’s original mission to explore space." How about sending all the terrorists on a one-way mission to the moon instead?

Hooray For the Red, White & Blue!

Happy Independence Day! I love America and am always grateful to have been born and raised in the United States. Here are two quotes for the day: "The United States is the only country with a known birthday." ~ James G. Blaine; "May the sun in his course visit no land more free, more happy, more lovely, than this our own country!" ~Daniel Webster

The National 9/11 Flag

"Destroyed in the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11 and stitched back together seven years later by tornado survivors in Greensburg, Kansas".

Freedom of the Press?

Let's see how many excuses are made for this outrage, which CNN's Anderson Cooper summed up perfectly on behalf of the media: "We are not the enemy here." Even the evil Bush never banned the press from covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Pelosi's Palaver

Is she crazy? Meanwhile, in England, a politician injects well-deserved shame into the discussion: "What has happened to a significant number of Britain's working-class men? Well, as Frank Field, the Labour MP who has been made a poverty adviser by David Cameron, has pointed out, for too many of them, the adjective 'working' no longer applies. Thanks to a generous welfare system, many of them have calculated that they are better off staying at home than they would be doing anything so proletarian as a hard day's work." Sound familiar?

Don't Call a Spade a Spade..or a Terrorist

Soccer Dad discusses the latest intelligent column from Charles Krauthammer, who I respect greatly. Earlier today I was disgusted to read this rebuttal of that column.

Gettysburg Anniversary

75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg from Robbie Thompson on Vimeo.

Today is the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg -- and they want to build a casino there! Let's hope this never happens!

Good for Geico

Today I got a kick out of this cleverly-done new Geico commercial, which is much better than the gecko ones. (However, I find the Peter Jennings imitator extremely annoying.)

Calypso Louie Strikes Again!

This vile hatemonger ought to look in the mirror for a change: "Jew-Hater, Anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan blames Jews for Financial Ruin of Blacks".
