Royal Hoo-Ha

I'm sure  Barry Koltnow speaks for an awful lot of us when he asks, "Please explain why I should care about the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29 in Westminster Abbey?"  If you're actually one of those who does care, go e-mail him at the address shown; if you, like me, also don't care, you can e-mail him to say thanks for expressing our feelings so well.

Nordlinger on Israel

I always enjoy reading Jay Nordlinger, and I always admire him more after reading pro-Israeli things like this
"'I’m not anti-Semitic, I just hate Israel!' people say (in so many words). I love what Paul Johnson says: 'Scratch someone who’s anti-Israel, and it won’t take long before you reach the anti-Semite beneath.' I know full well there are people who are anti-Israel without being anti-Semitic. (So does Johnson.) It’s just that I think they are fewer in number than people generally suppose."

Democratic Demogoguery

Wanted! Republican spine and determination to stand firm against typical liberal propaganda like this, reported by the Media Research Center: "NY Times Food Writer Mark Bittman: People Will 'Starve to Death' Under House Budget." This sort of predictable attack always infuriates me, but it also drives me crazy when the Republicans kowtow or weakly respond rather than attacking back.

Nealz Nuze

Neal Boortz has lots of interesting links today, including this infuriating news: "Two-thirds of oil and gas leases in the Gulf are inactive ... this is how Obama brings us to energy independence."

A Tragic Day in Washington - 30 Years Ago Today

It's hard to believe that the assassination attempt on the life of Pres. Ronald Reagan took place thirty years ago today. I still remember vividly the panic, horror, and fear (and courage) on that terrible day.

Make sure you vote in this Nealz Nuze poll!

An Awful Juxtaposition

The fact that they are still going ahead with the Ground Zero Mosque is bad enough. But look what's moving nearby - the Anne Frank Center USA!  Pamela Geller writes:
"They have no shame. None.
The latest sell on the Ground Zero mega mosque is that the Anne Frank museum will be going in next door in Mr. Rauf's neighborhood.
First off, it is not next door. Not nearly. The proposed Anne Frank Museum will be located on 100 Church Street. That is not next door to or near 45 Park Place. Funny how the Islamic supremacists say the Ground Zero mosque is not near Ground Zero, but the Anne Frank museum is next door.
So it is vile for the media (or whoever is behind this bogus meme) to attempt to use the holocaust to advance the Ground Zero mosque, especially since the leader of the Muslim world, Mufti al-Husseini, was an ally of Hitler's and was responsible for the deaths of over 400,000 Jewish women and children during the holocaust. (Scroll and read.) The Muslim world has never apologized for or owned up to their role in World War II. Unlike Germany and Japan, they escaped penalty. Sick."

Passover Game

Here's a Jewish game I read about at The Jewish Week.

Excuses, Excuses!

Well, here are some novel excuses to explain why most Americans are against Obama's Libyan strategy:  "NY Times Blames Data 'Overload,' 'Compassion Fatigue,' and Basketball for Obama's Low Libya Ratings". I have some better excuses: high unemployment, high food prices, and high energy prices in American. How about some humanitarian relief here? (And I don't mean continued freebies like welfare and 99 weeks of unemployment; I mean jobs!)  I doubt hungry, unemployed Americans are going to reelect him because of his stand on Libya.  I just don't get it at all.

Good Question

The text that accompanies this Gary Varvel "think toon" is: "The Middle East is on fire and our friend, Israel is smack dab in the middle. On Wednesday, terrorists bombed a bus stop in Jerusalem killing a British woman and injuring 20 others. The bomb was the first in more than six years. If Israel's neighbors turn on them, can they count on the U.S. to defend them?"

The Famous HeLa

If you love to read and are looking for a good work of nonfiction, you can't do better than "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot. It's very well-written, very interesting -- and extremely depressing.

Kinetics in Libya

Instapundit's John McCain series continues: "They told me if I vote for John McCain, we'd see war after war with no exit strategy, and they were right!" And if you can't stand the sound of Obama's voice, you can always visit Vodkapundit for some clever liveblogging tonight.

Earth Hour: Lights ON!

Tonight from 8:30 - 9:30, it's "Earth Hour", when liberals and environmentalists turn off their lights and appliances. My response to this yearly event is to do the opposite and deliberately turn on extra lights! In short, I couldn't care less about Earth Hour, but I do like these gorgeous photographs.

Please Shut Up!

Neither Newt Gingrich nor Donald Trump should run for President. Think of the field day the liberal Obamamedia will have with them and their scandals! Also, please stop harping already on Obama's birth certificate -- it just makes us sound desperate. Can't the Republicans do any better than this?

What a Riot!

Instapundit sums up the protest against spending cuts: "LONDON: Moochers And Looters Clash With Police." I like this summation in the comments:
"Enguerrand321, blogging in the Guardian about this demonstration, admirably said:
"So in summary:
(1) It was a nice pleasant march by calm, peaceful protesters who are in general neither desperate nor underprivileged nor very angry
(2) A few hotheads got a disproportionate share of attention by doing some rather minor criminal damage
(3) The marchers want the rest of us to go on paying their salaries and their pensions
(4) There is not any money left and the Government is borrowing one pound in four that it spends. This year’s deficit is about £145 billion or approx. 10% of GDP
(5) If we go on spending at this rate, then in two or three years we will be bankrupt and nobody will lend us any money
(6) If we get there, the cuts will be dictated by outsiders and will be very severe
(7) These cuts take us back to the level of public spending we had in 2008 (in nominal terms) or 2004 (in real terms)
(8) The Labour party itself has said it would have undertaken large cuts if it gained office, worse than under Thatcher, but now refuses to say what it would cut or when
(9) There really is no alternative, just slightly faster cuts or slightly slower, or waiting for the IMF to do it all at once in three years time".
Madison, WI was just a small protest in comparison; will we see another London here next?

Plane Insane

Before I learned that this had occurred at Reagan National, I assumed it had happened in some small airport in the West somewhere! Imagine only 1 air traffic controller on duty in one of the busiest airports and in one of the most famous cities in America - what a scandal!  The rules will definitely be changed now, the way they changed after the Californian's wireless operator signed off for the night on April 14, 1912.

I think most people forget that Linda McCartney was an accomplished photographer.

Gene Simmons, Mensch

I never cared for Kiss, but I do like this!: "52 years after leaving Israel as the impoverished nine-year-old son of a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp, Chaim Witz returned to his birth country this week under different circumstances - as mega-millionaire rock star and TV personality Gene Simmons."

Terrorist Attack in Jerusalem

The religion of peace strikes again. And in a great piece of timing, CNN is showing promos for a special called "Unwelcome in America: The Muslims Next Door". Is it any wonder they are unwelcome?

The Most Beautiful Woman in the World

Although everyone knew she was ailing, it was still sad to learn of the death of Elizabeth Taylor. She was so exquisite, even as a child, and she was famous all during my entire lifetime.  Nobody else has a face like hers, and as the old Blackgama ad said, she was "what makes a legend most."

Leftist Language

Here are some random thoughts by Thomas Sowell, including this one: "The vocabulary of the political left is fascinating. For example, it is considered to be 'materialistic' and 'greedy' to want to keep what you have earned. But it is 'idealistic' to want to take away what someone else has earned and spend it for your own political benefit or to feel good about yourself. "

1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

At the Forward, you can read original accounts of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.

The Milton Berle Doctrine

I was surprised to note that this clever comparison was written by Richard Cohen, of all people!  "In the Oval Office, President Obama keeps busts of his heroes — Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. He should add one of Milton Berle, the so-called Mr. Television of the 1950s. Berle used to signal his studio audience to both continue and stop applauding by holding up one hand to wave them on and another to quiet them. This is the president’s Libya policy in a nutshell."

Happy Skydive To You!

Wow!

Obama the Impostor

I'm getting a kick out of the fact that only now,  people are suddenly starting to realize what an empty suit Obama really is. Victor Volsky says "The Emperor has no clothes" and says "The world is going to hell in a hand basket; Japan, ravaged by an earthquake and a tsunami of biblical proportions, is teetering on the brink of yet another, nuclear, disaster; the Middle East is aflame; the national debt is skyrocketing while Congressional Democrats and Republicans are mud-wrestling over the budget; gas prices are inexorably climbing to the psychologically devastating $4/gallon level -- and meanwhile what is the U.S. President doing?" And as usual, I will say, imagine if this were George W. Bush. (Cartoon by Steve Kelley at Lucianne.com)

Sacrifice

The workers at the Fukushima nuclear plant are true heroes, like the New York firemen who went into the Twin Towers on September 11 knowing they might not survive.

Starving in Japan

It's just terrible the scope of the tragedy in Japan.  You'd think the United States and other countries could try something on the level of the Berlin Airlift.  If we could do it then, can't we do it now?  And look at how the elderly are suffering.  Is UNRRA still around?

The Worst President

These tidbits are courtesy of Instapundit:

Here's an excellent editorial by Rex Murphy of Canada's National Post:
"This week, Obama announced he’s heading to, among other stops, Rio, where he will deliver a speech on Sunday. And despite some urging him otherwise, suggesting that a trip to Rio doesn’t fit the urgency of the time — what with Japan, Libya and Bahrain all being aflame in different ways — he’s stood firm. Brazil or bust.
Why not the obvious and serious foreign visit the times require? Why not a trip to Tokyo — a gesture of symbolic solidarity with an ally? Evidently, Rio needs him more.
It is ironic that this high celebrity of a president seems more comfortable with acting the celebrity role than being the president. There’s a vacancy at the top of the world. And his name is Obama."
And Rudy Giuliani said: “This president has been a failure in just about every single thing that he’s done”.
Yet the morons of this country are going to reelect him anyway.

Ah, There's Real News Tonight

Here's Greg Crosby about the sudden focus on news that matters:
"Notice how all of a sudden nobody cares about Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan anymore. It didn't take much. A 9.0 magnitude earthquake followed by a catastrophic tsunami and the possible meltdown of a nuclear power plant, that's all it took. Thousands of people dead, thousands more missing, and millions of people short of water and food. The virtual destruction of Japan was all it took. Who is Charlie Sheen? What is he up to? No one cares. Is Lindsay Lohan going to jail? No one cares. Not anymore.  The top story in the world now is the devastation of an entire country with the news media warning at the top of its voice of worldwide repercussions. That kind of changes everything, doesn't it?"
It certainly does, and it's a shame it's taken a tragedy like this to capture the attention of the people. But it won't last long. After all, Charlie Sheen is going on tour, and the Royal Wedding is fast approaching...

Disaster Preparedness

About the disaster that is Obama, Neal Boortz writes "If you think that we are headed in the wrong direction, it is because of two reasons: You yourself voted for him or you didn't do enough to stop it."  Boortz describes him this way:

"This incredibly horrible president is the ESPN, Entertainment Tonight, Hollywood Red Carpet, US Magazine, Inside Edition, People Magazine, Blue Martini, March Madness, College football recruiting newsletters, Academy Awards, The Oprah Network, Dr. Phil, sports talk radio, Golden Globe Awards, which celebrity has knocked up which celebrity and who's my babydaddy president."

Beck on the Fogel Family

Jewish World Review says, "Love him or hate him, when Glenn Beck is on message, he is superb. In this Minute-and-38-seconds clip, he offers a PS to the Fogel family massacre. Please forward and share with friends." Click here.  I saw this yesterday on his show and agree with JWR's assessment. Beck drives me crazy most of the time, and then he will redeem himself.

Duke Royalty

I don't even follow basketball, but the eloquence of this letter by Grant Hill really impressed me.  We're so used to hearing about bad behavior by athletes, so it's refreshing to read about a role model for a change.

The Religion of Death

Read and pass on this devastating column by Melanie Phillips  about the Western response to the massacre in Itamar:
"This amoral response by the west is simply devastating. It means that it no longer possesses the capacity even to acknowledge Jewish victimisation at the hands of the Arabs – the actual cause of this nine-decade long conflict. Instead, Israelis have become literally dehumanised in the eyes of these British and American commentators. The murder of Israeli children is simply airbrushed out of the western media and political picture as just too inconvenient, because it gets in the way of what they have all persuaded themselves is an axiomatic fact: that this is merely a dispute over land between two rival peoples, and it is all Israel’s fault that it still isn’t resolved.
Indeed, some of the media couldn’t even bring themselves to call this atrocity an act of terrorism. But even ‘terrorism’ doesn’t accurately convey what happened in Itamar. Terrorism is when people murder the innocent to achieve a political end. Heaven knows, that’s bad enough. But this goes much further even than that. The Arabs who broke into the Fogels’ house and went from room to room murdering the family, slitting their throats while they slept, did so because they reach a psychotic state of ecstasy from murdering Jews.
We know that because the Arabs in Gaza handed out sweets and rejoiced at the slaughter. We know it because we have seen it before many times: Arab hands being dipped exultantly in the blood of the Israeli victims they have butchered. We know it because the Palestinian Authority-controlled media, mosques and educational materials tell their children that it is the greatest glory and a religious duty to kill Jews. We know it because the Palestinian Authority names squares and streets after such genocidal murders in order to honour their deeds.
This is not merely terrorism. This is a depraved death cult -- one adopted by the direct heirs to the Arabs of inter-war Palestine who formed Hitler’s Middle East legion. And their present-day descendants use the very same Nazi motifs and tactics of psychopathic dehumanisation of the Jews to incite their murder."

But we're supposed to make nice to these animals; and we're the ones who were told by Mayor Bloomberg that we ought to be ashamed for opposing the Ground Zero Mosque.  Can you just imagine the Western response if the children were Palestinians and the murderers were Jewish?

The Grogger

From Tablet comes this illustrated explanation of the grogger. When I was a kid, I thought it was called the "McGregor"!

Gushing About Oil

Jim Lacey says: "In a case without historic parallel, the United States has opted for national suicide when the answer to many of our energy problems lies literally under our feet." Absolutely right! But since oil, coal, and nuclear power have all been demonized, what do these idiots expect us to do? One thing we must do is defeat Obama in 2012 and reverse his self-destructive policies.

Most Nauseating Excuse of the Day

Oh, please!: "While John Galliano seems to have disappeared from the public eye, his Jewish lawyer has defended the designer's Anti-Semitic tirade by claiming 'it can happen to any one of us.'"  No -- it can't!

Lunacy on the Left

Larry Elder wants to know "Who's Crazier --- Charlie Sheen or the Left Wing?"
"Charlie Sheen, at least, has an excuse. He's on a drug he calls 'Charlie Sheen.'
But what powerful hallucinogen inhaled by the left induces the mental fantasy that makes them believe:
* Spending nearly a trillion dollars in 'stimulus' money 'created or saved' 3.5 million jobs?
* A 'tax cut' means giving checks to the nearly 40 percent of the workforce that pays no federal income taxes?
* Racism drives the tea party/conservative/right-wing criticism of a left-wing black president — who received more of the white vote than John Kerry, in every age demographic, and who at one time enjoyed an approval rating of almost 70 percent?
* Government can 'invest' in 'green jobs of the future' better than can the private sector, can pick winners and losers better than the marketplace, and can do this while not rewarding those with political influence or punishing those without it?
* The rich pay no taxes — even though the top 1 percent of income-earners pay nearly 40 percent of all federal income taxes?
* Tax cuts only benefit the rich — even though they disproportionately pay the income taxes (see above)?"
Read it all.

What's Nu?

From Andrew Silow-Carroll  at Jewish World Review comes a report on  "A new study of how American Jews use Hebrew and Yiddish tells us who we are. Nu?"

A Shameless Script

How disgracefully predictable: "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) once again attacked Republicans’ budget proposal on Wednesday, claiming its cuts target 'little children' and 'poor little boys and girls.'" Who writes this script, anyway? If anything is "insulting to the American people", it's Democrats like Reid.

A September 11 Reminder

The UK Telegraph is showing film footage taken from a NYPD helicopter on that terrible day.

Fight Back... With Bean Bags!

I heard about this outrage over the weekend, and of course it's not getting the attention it deserves: "Bean bags, as it turns out, are America's first line of 'defense' for border agents attempting to prevent what P.C. know-nothings like to think is the crossing of a border (that shouldn't be there in the first place) by some 'noble soul' whose only motivation is taking a job 'that Americans refuse to do.'"  Gee, I'm surprised they're not making our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan defend themselves that way!

Meshuggah For Muslims

How is it possible that, in this 10th anniversary year of the terrorist attacks on our country by Muslims, people continue to be in a state of denial?  Mark Steyn writes, "Speaking of the left’s willingness to provide cover for Islamic imperialism, the hippetty-hop mogul Russell Simmons was in Times Square this weekend to stand in solidarity with the Ground Zero mosque under the slogan 'Today I Am A Muslim, Too'". Ugh!

Republican't

Absolutely, depressingly, right: "Seriously, Republicans, This Is The Best You Can Do? None Of These 2012 Candidates Can Beat Obama. The Economist provides the handy chart below assessing the Republican presidential field for 2012. The bottom line? If this is the best the Republicans can do, they might as well concede right now."
I was thinking along those lines the other night -- my heart sinks when I hear the same names every time. Romney, Gingrich, McCain.  Isn't there anyone else?? We have less than 2 years to find out, and we'll have nobody but ourselves to blame if, heaven forbid, Obama is re-elected.

Some of My Best Antisemites are Jewish!

Charlie Sheen and John Galliano are now claiming they are Jewish.  Yes, that explains everything!
p.s. Charlie Sheen is a parasite feeding on media and public hosts. Stop giving him attention, and maybe he'll go away. Or maybe Haiti will keep him, permanently.

What a Spitfire!

Check out this video. The British are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Spitfire.

Why Work? (continued)

I can't tell you how infuriated I get when I see stories like this one. Milton Wolf says, "Welcome to the entitlement state..A News 4 Investigation reveals Missouri residents receiving food stamps and welfare payments are spending them in places like Hawaii, California, and Florida."  (via Instapundit, of course)  You never hear Obama condemning welfare fraud, never hear him encouraging people to show some initiative instead of remaining dependent for generations; he only condemns the rich and the successful -- and we the taxpayers.

The Death of Common Sense

I thought this was a joke, but it isn't. Via Instapundit: "Latest zero tolerance idiocy:  A Virginia middle school student has been suspended for . . . opening the door for a woman whose hands were full. Really, why not just abolish public education, if this is what it has come to?"

Wearing Blinders

The Washington Times wonders: "How many Americans have to die before Mr. Obama at long last admits the nature of the Islamist threat that killed them?"  And  Peter Wilson at American Thinker writes: "'A tragic event?  'A stark reminder' of 'sacrifices' to 'keep us safe' from 'dangers'? No, Mr. President, it's a stark reminder that the world is full of Muslim males in their twenties who believe that their God has commanded them to murder Americans." He'll never admit it. It's easier for him to blame America for everything.

Advantages of Being Jewish

I love this Jeffrey Goldberg piece at The Atlantic Monthly: "One of the great advantages of being Jewish -- and there are many (we invented both ethical monotheism and whitefish salad, after all) -- is that though there are only about 14 million of us on the whole planet (18 million before World War II, Mr. Galliano), people can't stop talking about us!"

An Embarassment for America

Read Niles Gardiner at the UK Telegraph: "Do tyrants fear America anymore? President Obama’s timid foreign policy is an embarrassment for a global superpower." Read the excerpt below. As usual, the British papers say the things our newspapers won't say; they're too busy protecting and excusing Obama.
"Just a few years ago the United States was genuinely feared on the world stage, and dictatorial regimes, strategic adversaries and state sponsors of terror trod carefully in the face of the world’s most powerful nation. Now Washington appears weak, rudderless and frequently confused in its approach. From Tehran to Tripoli, the Obama administration has been pathetically slow to lead, and afraid to condemn acts of state-sponsored repression and violence. When protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the Islamist dictatorship in Iran in 2009, the brutal repression that greeted them was hardly a blip on Barack Obama’s teleprompter screen, barely meriting a response from a largely silent presidency.
In contrast to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, President Obama fails to see the United States as an exceptional nation, with a unique role in leading the free world and standing up to tyranny. In his speeches abroad he has frequently found fault with his own country, rather than projecting confidence in American greatness. From Cairo to Strasbourg he has adopted an apologetic tone rather than demonstrating faith in America as a shining city upon a hill, a beacon of freedom and liberty. A leader who lacks pride in his own nation’s historic role as a great liberator simply cannot project strength abroad".

Grand Rounds

Grand Rounds for March 1st, 2011 is in session in The Examining Room of Doctor Charles.
