Conservative Websites
Doug Ross @ Journal lists the top 150 conservative websites, where you can discover sites unfamiliar to you.
Four Less Years! Four Less Years!
Read Victor Davis Hanson at The Corner:
"Quite simply, Barack Obama will be remembered not so much for being the nation’s first African-American president, or even the man who ordered the killing of Osama bin Laden, or even for his Obamacare, but as the president who grew government the largest, ran up the largest deficits during any presidential tenure, and laid out most candidly and confidently the argument of why the United States is an intrinsically unfair society and how that must be remedied by government."

Work Ethic
I love stories about people like this: "Roy Plinska hasn't had one sick day in 65 years". His kind is all but extinct today. (Via Obscure Store)
Bravo Boehner!
Good speech on the House floor! The last time I saw John Boehner show as much spine and passion, it was during the Obamacare debate. If nothing else, it shows that maybe the Republicans aren't willing to be kicked around anymore.
Cruising With Betsy
Here are some interesting links at Betsy's Page. She surfs the web so you don't have to.
Politically Correct Pigs
This sounds like it ought to be a joke; the people who come up with this kind of idiocy are the real joke.
Why I'm in Favor of the Death Penalty
The needle would be too good for these animals: "Details emerge of a life of horror for Phoenix girl who died." Shouldn't this headline say "...for Phoenix girl who was abused and murdered"?
There's never enough outrage expressed when children are killed. Maybe these vermin will hire Casey Anthony's lawyer and get away with their atrocities.

At Least She's Not Jewish!
I know that love is blind, but this is ridiculous: "'He's really kind-hearted': Mixed-race woman to marry white supremacist murder suspect whose face is covered in swastikas." Take a look at his photo.
"The Banality of Evil"
That's a perfect description from The Anchoress. (When I saw these photos, at first I thought it was Julian Assange).
Shamelessness Alert!
Who's to blame for the Oslo attacks? The Jews, of course! Now, why didn't I think of that?
The Democrats are doing what they do best -- demonizing Republicans: "GOP aims to gut Christmas, White House alleges."

Looking Back In Time
Check out the British Pathé news archive. As a commenter said, it's like looking back in time. (via Metafilter)
Wake-Up Call for America
The great Victor Davis Hanson has a column about the entitlement mentality and the inability to change it.
"In hard times, as in war, questions arise that were once considered taboo. As we approach $15 trillion run up in aggregate national debt, and confront the reality of a welfare state that is predicated on flawed assumptions about everything from demography to human nature, a rendezvous with brutal reality is now upon us.Also, now he's talking yet again about allowing millions of illegal aliens into this country. If there are no jobs in this country, where will they work -- or will they work at all? Will unemployed Americans protest, or don't they even care? This country is not only financially bankrupt but morally bankrupt, too, and if Obama is reelected, things are going to get even worse.
Indeed, an entire array of tragic questions arises in a bankrupt but suddenly open-minded society in a way unimaginable in a reactionary, affluent one with endless credit: Should those on welfare who have more than three children still qualify for increased assistance for each additional offspring? Should state-subsidized elective operations automatically be provided for the chronically obese or lifelong smokers? Does the affluent class deserve mortgage-interest deductions on second and third homes? Should U.S. troops subsidize the defense of an allied and rich Germany or Japan 66 years after World War II?
……………………………………..
A classical Greek would suggest that the more one supplies generous pensions, unemployment insurance, food stamps, and direct government subsidies, the more entirely human responses assert themselves: the incentive to be self-reliant disappearing in direct proportion to the spread of self-righteousness about deserving such entitlements as a birthright. A year ago, to hint that many were not looking so eagerly for work because they enjoyed long-term unemployment benefits and an array of state subsidies would have been deemed heartless; soon the pieties of a credit-obsessed society will vanish with the tragic nod, and the remark 'But of course — human nature being what it is.'"

Why Obama Will Lose
I greatly enjoyed Abraham Katsman's column titled "Obama the Bore", and I sure hope he's right when he predicts that he will lose the election. Here's an excerpt:
"From the fainting fans at his rallies to the panting panelists on the Nobel committee, candidate Obama's rousing rhetoric tapped into something optimistic and hopeful, capturing the attention of the world. It may have all been childishly utopian -- stopping the rise of the oceans, burnishing America's international popularity by sheer force of his personality, ushering in a post-partisan political era, -- but his magical message resonated. Obama was all promise. The author is too charitable: he's not merely a bore, he's a dangerous bore!
But something happened since the campaign. Time passed. Reality intruded. The magic faded. The promise was broken. We got to know him.
As president, Obama is prickly and thin-skinned. He is preachy and condescending. He is self-absorbed, self-pitying, self-absolving, self-crediting, and self-aggrandizing. Watching him is more depressing than uplifting. He is exactly what he promised not to be: just like any other ordinary, boring politician."
9/11 Television
There will be some special TV programs on to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. I still think that the History Channel's "102 Minutes That Changed America" and National Geographic Channel's "Inside 9/11" are two programs that ought to be required viewing.
Further Proof That Liberals Are Nuts
I'm sure that asthmatics will be overjoyed to learn that Primatene Mist has been banned as being harmful to the environment. (via Overlawyered). And Protein Wisdom reports that felons are a 'protected class' in San Francisco. A protected class of what -- lowlives?

Another Reason to Avoid Remakes
Moe, Curly, Shemp and Larry must be rolling in their graves: "Snooki and the rest of the Jersey Shore gang will be making a cameo in the Three Stooges movie, starring Sean P. Hayes, Jane Lynch and Sofia Vergara."
Football Fever
Oh no, not again: "Yes, you know football is back when discussion heats up over whether Brett Favre will un-retire again." Also, it's a shame the NFL strike negotiators can't handle our debt ceiling crisis (in favor of not raising it, of course). They make this president look even more amateurish than usual.
Obama the Petulant
Peter Wehner on The Messiah: "At this juncture, it looks like Obama is the most adolescent, even childish, figure in the negotiations – a petulant man who also happens to be an inept negotiator. This isn’t what the president and his supporters expected. But of course, that could be said for his entire presidency.” (via Instapundit) I also loathe Geithner, who always reminds me of the devil, for some reason. Please, can't the Republicans come up with a decent Presidential candidate?
I see he's going to give another propaganda speech tonight, so I'll look forward to some drunkblogging by Stephen Green.

Neal Boortz's Advice on Voting for Obama
Neal Boortz offers some advice for idiots young Obama voters:
"So as you contemplate the next election, I want you to consider a few things.
1.Would you rather earn a paycheck then a welfare check? If the answer is “Yes,” then move on to question #2.I doubt they're listening -- their liberal legs are already tingling with anticipation.
2. How much of that paycheck would you like to keep? Never thought about that, did you? You might say, “Well I want to keep the whole thing!” Would be nice, but that’s not reality. The government has all sorts of plans for your money.
3. The harder you work and sacrifice to earn more money, do you think that the government should be able to take more of that money and redistribute it to those who aren’t working as hard or at all for that money?
4. How long do you think you will have to work just to fund the federal government?
If Barack Obama and big-government politicians in Washington get their way, we increase the numbers in the moocher class – those dependent on government for their very existence – and fewer in the achiever class – those who manage to work an pay their own way. The more those productive people earn, the more the government will seize to fund its redistribution efforts."
Call It Evil
There's a good read by Aaron Goldstein at the American Spectator, who writes about "Why It Wasn't Unreasonable to Suspect Muslim Terrorism in Norway".
Bruce Bawer analyzes the terrorist attack and calls it a double tragedy for Norway, explaining that "Not only has it lost almost one hundred people to a senseless rampage, but legitimate criticism of Islam has been profoundly discredited by association with a murderous lunatic." (via Instapundit).
I thought I was hearing things when I heard yesterday that some lunatics here are actually blaming Sarah Palin! Why, because she used the word "crosshairs" before Loughner went on his shooting rampage here? Oh yes, I see the connection.
I don't want to hear the latest psychobabble about the "root causes" of Breivik's savagery. He's evil, like McVeigh, the Fort Hood killer, the Unibomber, and so many other coldblooded mass murderers, and we have to take more steps to protect ourselves.

No matter what you may think of Glenn Beck, he has always supported Israel and defended the Jews.
Another Wasted Life
Amy Winehouse, who I never could stand, has died. Her name was synonymous with scandal and hard living, so this comes as no surprise. I bet they will compare her with Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin, who all died at age 27. What a waste.

Carnage in Oslo
M----- terrorists strike again.
Here are some wise words from The Anchoress:
Here are some wise words from The Anchoress:
"I wonder what Norway is thinking about this. Or rather, what they will think, when they’ve passed this first shock. Oslo — which bends over backwards to be accommodating, is “tolerant to a fault” to some (but not all) ideas, and admitted to giving Jimmy Carter a Peace Prize as “a kick in the leg” to the warmonger George W. Bush — probably believed that her placid neutrality would render her immune to this sort of senseless evil.Update: Now they're saying it's home-grown terrorism . not radical Islamists -- but you sure can't blame us for suspecting them first.
But that’s sort of the whole point of senseless and cowardly evil. Because it is senseless, there is no safe place; there is no safe position or ideology that will shield anyone from a force of evil, and a means of “movement,” that is willing to lash out in any direction, at any moment. And because it is cowardly, it targets children and the everyday unarmed.
This must be shaking Norway to its foundations. And perhaps it needs to. There is no immunity in ideology. Evil doesn’t care about it, except as it may exploit it."
How Depressing
Townhall's Paul Hengor asks if you could survive another Great Depression the way your grandparents did. The answer is no, because there's no self-reliance today. Read about his own grandparents' experience.

What a Pain!
I just don't get this hysteria over Michelle Bachmann's migraines: "...Some close to Bachmann fear she won’t be equal to the stress of the campaign, much less the presidency itself." Excuse me, but Franklin Roosevelt was crippled, yet he was equal to the campaign -- four times!
Cursive! Foiled Again!
Jazz Shaw at Hot Air talks about the everyday items that have vanished thanks to technology. When even handwriting has become extinct, you know we're in big trouble. I am always grateful to have been born in the simpler 50's.
"The Check Is In The Mail"
Michael Filozof describes those who will re-elect Obama: “Obama and the left have a massive constituency of tens of millions who do not comprehend the true meaning of money, only caring that the government check is in the mail.”

Annoying Americanisms
BBC readers list their least favorite expressions. I didn't see "at the end of the day", but the detested "my bad" is #24, and "going forward" is #32. (via Miss Cellania)
Israeli Lifesavers
Ryan Jones from Israel Today writes: "Another story of Israeli compassion for Gaza Arabs debunks media portrayal of Jewish state as a cruel oppressor." But it falls on deaf ears, as usual.

I love the editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez. Take a look at this cartoon, captioned "Events that never materialized". (Spotted at National Review)

"V" for Victory
Today is the anniversary of Winston Churchill's "V for Victory" campaign. Look at these photos of London in color, from Life magazine. (via Fark). (The only "V's" our current politicians know are vapid, vacuous, and vile!)

A Wynning Call
If you haven't already heard this, read what Steve Wynn had to say about Obama:
"The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don't invest, their holding too much money. We haven't heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody's afraid of the government and there's no need soft peddling it, it's the truth. It is the truth. And that's true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid. I support Democrats and Republicans. And I'm telling you that the business community in this company is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States. And until he's gone, everybody's going to be sitting on their thumbs."Where is the Republican candidate who can defeat this man?

Argus Hamilton Quips
Here is the columnist's take on the latest news stories, including this one: "President Obama scheduled a big fundraising party in Chicago on his fiftieth birthday on August third. It's the day after the U.S. runs out of money. Lots of men have a midlife crisis on their fiftieth birthdays, but they don't usually bring the whole country along on the Apocalypse."
Bloody Fools
Was it really necessary last night for AMC to warn its viewers that the upcoming "Breaking Bad" scene would be violent and intense? We already had heard this episode would be violent. For me, the warning just made the scene less shocking instead of more so, since some of the element of surprise was gone.

No Excuses for Murdering Children
Whoever they get to prosecute the killer of little Leiby Kletzky had better know what he's doing; we don't need a repeat of the Casey Anthony case here! Also, can people stop second-guessing and blaming the parents for letting him walk by himself? And please stop trying to humanize the murderer -- it's sickening!
Better Off Than You Were Four Years Ago?
It's definitely Obama's fault that you're worse off, and it's the voters' fault as well. Here's a rundown of what's happened to us, and what will continue to happen if he is reelected anyway, our "Food Stamp President", as you can see at American Digest. Why should those of us who didn't vote for him have to suffer?

"Shared Sacrifice"
Go to American Thinker and read this entire column about Obama's birthday bash. Can you just imagine the reaction if President Bush had done this?
"After struggling with noncompliant Republicans over the debt-ceiling debate, in what appears to be an effort to soothe his 'agitated' self, President Obama has scheduled a high-priced 50th birthday bash in honor of the day he graced the planet with his greatness. The news comes just days after Obama was lamenting the burden of having to keep 'hundreds of thousands of [unnecessary] dollars in additional income.' The President encouraged people to take the extra money that would otherwise provide stuffing for the worn-out mattresses Americans haven't been able to replace in a recession and look for an opportunity to help a brother or sister in need.
.................
President Obama is even making sure, regardless of economic strata, that 'shared sacrifice' is truly shared. At the birthday show, there'll even be a limited-availability $50 'neediest among us' section for those who view the cost of admittance as an investment in an Obama second term, where he'll have another chance to fulfill his promise to provide free gas and monthly mortgage payments to those still having trouble making ends meet."

The Arrogance of Obama
It gets more outrageous every day! Instapundit links to Bryan Preston's post "More on that 80% claim: Hi, I’m Barack Obama, and I Just Make Stats Up Out of Nothing."
David Limbaugh has a good column, too: "He acts as though the United States is his personal chattel to do with as he pleases, and no one (including members of the coequal legislative branch) and nothing (including the Constitution) dare get in his way. He masquerades as a mere bystander in all this instead of the primary mover in accelerating this financial catastrophe and the primary obstructer of the reforms necessary to avert it."
When all else fails, play the race card! Also, someone on Fox News said that comparing Obama to Jimmy Carter was an insult to Carter.

That poor murdered Hasidic boy! That the vicious killer is himself Jewish makes this much more tragic, and an embarrassment for all Jews. (Let's hope all the anti-semites don't come out of the woodwork as a response.)
Great Books
Thomas Sowell reviews a few good sports biographies -- all of which I will sign up for if my library obtains them!
The Obama Tantrum and The Spineless Republicans
This commenter at Hot Air has the Republicans pegged right, unfortunately. They are always unable to seize the opportunity:
"Republicans have no one who can call out this phony outrage with outrage of his own. That’s the problem.
Obama’s goal is to characterize the Republicans as self-interested ankle-biters trifling with a serious issue for political advantage and risking national solvency in the process. It doesn’t matter that he’s the one who’s already risked it. The republicans have failed to educate people, and are now failing to stand up to him. The longer this goes on, the greater chance Obama’s strategy will work. People become sick of the issue and will identify with Obama’s anger.
When he stands up and gets angry, you need to stand up and get angrier. You’re not dealing with a man who has any intention of good faith. He’s abused you and will always abuse you because he couldn’t care less about the country. He wants the country to go broke.
We need anger of our own.
Republicans are caught in the passive mediator mode, and over-compensating out of fear of how the media will make them look.
Walking on eggshells won’t work.
Republicans the ones with the right to invoke national interest. They should be calling taxes a “moral hazard,” they should be calling out the White House and Washington out for its squalid overspending that has put the nation at risk. They need to find their inner anger.
The problem isn’t only that they don’t have any, but that they don’t recognize who Obama is."

Politically Correct September 11
Must everything be seen in the light of liberal political correctness? Atlas Shrugs reports:
"N.J. schools will offer lessons in 'tolerance' about 9/11 attacks. 911 is not about teaching our children that the 'tragedy' taught the victims of this mass murder 'tolerance,' nor is it about Bruce Springsteen's song 'The Rising.' And it is not a 'tragedy.' A car accident is tragedy. A terminal illness is a tragedy. This was an open declaration of war. Nowhere in this article or in the school teachers' and official's remarks does anyone dare mention Islam or Islamic jihad."Somehow, I doubt the same 'lessons' were taught in our schools after December 7, 1941.
Friends of Israel
I like Jay Nordlinger because he writes so well and because he's so supportive of Israel. In this Impromptus column, he discusses the Friends of Israel Initiative:
"In the July 4 National Review — there’s a patriotic phrase! — I had a piece called “Friends in Need: A cadre of worthies takes up the cause of Israel.” Who are these worthies? They are members of the Friends of Israel Initiative, a group spearheaded by José MarÃa Aznar, the former prime minister of Spain. That piece is here.
Aznar’s partners — the Friends — include Václav Havel, the Czech hero; Alejandro Toledo, the former president of Peru; David Trimble, the Northern Irishman who shared the Nobel peace prize in 1998; and our man John Bolton.
The Friends are not a Jewish group, by and large. (Who’s counting?) They are a group of righteous Gentiles, to borrow a phrase. And their concern for Israel is explained a bit in my piece. Why any explanation should be necessary, I’m not too sure.
Over the years, many have asked me, 'Why do you care so much about Israel?' They have said things like, 'Why in the world would Sarah Palin, as governor of Alaska, have an Israeli flag in her office?' I have answered this general question many times. Let me throw some links at you, if you’re interested: here, here, here, and here.
And I will now say a bit more. Israel is a greatly admirable nation — established just a few years after the ovens stopped belching — and, perversely, it is the world’s pariah state.
According to Eye on the UN, the United Nations took 145 “human-rights actions” against Israel last year. That was, of course, more than against any other country. In second place was Sudan, with a paltry 50 actions. Sudan’s government is genocidal, as you know. In third place was Congo. Then came Somalia.
And in fifth place — drum roll, please — the United States. North Korea did a full 20 places better.
In Scotland, the West Dunbartonshire Council has forbidden local libraries to carry Israeli books. Actually, the council has protested indignantly that this isn’t true. They have forbidden libraries to carry books printed in Israel. If an Israeli should happen to use a foreign publisher — why, that’s kosher.
Time was, a performer made news if he boycotted Israel. Now, a performer makes news if he travels to Israel and plays, or sings. Elton John went there and shouted out, 'Shalom! We are so happy to be back here! Ain’t nothin’ gonna stop us from comin’, baby.'
Israel, which is under siege by its neighbors, and by the awful weight of world opinion, is in sore need of friends. And Aznar & Co. are supplying this need. They are doing vital, golden work, and strictly from principle, deriving no benefit except duty fulfilled and conscience satisfied.
Let me tell you a quick story. After I published my article in National Review, I got a message from a reader. She told me she was 83, I believe, and on a fixed income. But she wanted to make a donation to the Friends of Israel Initiative. How could she do this? I found a street address for her. She is not the Internet-using type.
The rest of you sophisticates will want to check out the Friends’ website, here. http://www.friendsofisraelinitiative.org/
It has many interesting documents and facets. In my view, the Friends are one of the clearest and most helpful groups out there. They are, to use an old Bush 41 phrase, a 'point of light.'"

Good for him: "Noise Prompts Monroeville Restaurant To Ban Young Kids". Between the people bellowing on their cell phones, and the kids screaming and crying while their "parents" sit obliviously by, who can enjoy a good meal out any more? Yet Another Reason Not To Re-Elect Obama
Doug Ross @ Journal shows why Obama is the worst President ever, and he also defines a new malady: "Bush Tourette's Syndrome: You know: 'It was Bush's fault! Bush! Bush! Bush did it! And Cheney! And Bush! And Lee Harvey Oswald! And Bush!'"
Saturday, July 09, 2011
More Reasons Not to Vote for Obama
The reasons should already be clear, but for those people who are still blaming President Bush for everything that's going wrong, here is more evidence of the disaster of the Obama presidency:
- From Peter Wehner at Contentions, "A Jobs Report That Defies Description"
- From Eileen Toplansky at American Thinker, "Obama's Animus Toward Israel and Jews"
- From Paul Sperry at IBD: "Holder Launches Witch Hunt Against Biased Banks"
- From Micheline Maynard at the NY Times: "To Combat Lax Sales, G.M. Offers Free Insurance to Buyers in Pacific Northwest"
- Read the Lucianne.com reader comments on this New York Times story. As I've said before, it's only a crisis and there's only outrage when it's a Republican in the White House. They used to call Reagan "Teflon-coated"? Well, Obama must be made of Kryptonite, aided and abetted by the media and the moronic liberals!

Ca$h for Ca$ey
Andrea Peyser doesn't mince words about the Casey Anthony media blitz: "Filthy mom shopping around for pay dirt". If a "mother" were truly innocent of killing her child, wouldn't she keep a low profile after this, and wouldn't the idea of writing a book be the last thing on her mind? (I guess she can always write an OJ Simpson-like version of the crime, "If I Did It II".)
Desperate for Votes
For politically correct reasons, Obama has decided to try to stop the execution of an illegal alien rapist-murderer! Joseph Klein writes, "Justice delayed is justice denied. The 16-year-old girl who was kidnapped, raped and murdered so many years ago deserves that justice be finally exacted against her murderer. The girl’s family deserves closure. It is time that the Obama administration began to worry more about the welfare of innocent American citizens than the welfare of the illegal aliens who prey on them."

Horrible Haboobery
I had never heard the word "haboob" in my life, but this scary scene sure looked an awful lot like the dust storms of the 1930s.
A Living Hell
What should happen to Casey Anthony is what happened to that monster Lawrence Singleton years ago. He raped a young teen and cut off her arms. When they let him out of jail, he was hounded by outraged citizens wherever he went, and he ended up having to live on the prison grounds for his own protection. She deserves no less.

Thanks to the incredible morons on the jury, you too can murder your own child! I guess the woman who microwaved her daughter to death will also be found not guilty. Read Robert Stacy McCain: "HOLY FREAKING CRAP! Casey Anthony Becomes the O.J. Simpson of Baby-Killers." Maybe Casey Anthony and O.J. Simpson can look for "the real killers" together.
Not once did I imagine that she would be found not guilty. There's been no justice for poor Caylee, and now her family will profit from her murder. It's absolutely sickening.

Israel in the News...Sort Of
The flotilla passengers on the "Audacity of Dopes" ...er...I mean "hope" -- are on a hunger strike. Let's all feel sorry for them. Meanwhile, nobody is covering news of missile attacks from Gaza. As usual, when there are crimes against Israel, they are ignored or excused; but if "Palestinians" or their cause are the victims, that's another story!
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Pamela Geller is proud to be an old-fashioned patriot. Me too! Despite Obama's protestations to the contrary, I still think ours is the greatest country in the world. Mark Steyn's Song of the Week is George M. Cohan's "You're a Grand Old Flag". Between Cohan, John Phillip Sousa, and Irving Berlin, you couldn't go wrong. And today, radio station WMUU is playing patriotic tunes, so go have a listen while you're online.

Con Game
I am almost speechless after reading about this frivolous, ignorant lawsuit:
"The family of a coldblooded killer serving 25 years to life in state prison for shooting a man in the head complains he's being stigmatized -- by the use of the term 'inmate.' The label 'implies that our brother is locked up for the purpose of mating with other men,' claims Marie Domond in a lawsuit against the state Correctional Services Department. The Brooklyn federal court filing demands that officials immediately stop calling Gerard Domond 'an inmate.' It apparently hurts his feelings. Sis seeks $50 million damages for 'mental anguish.'

Dominique Strauss-Kahn
Ray Donovan once asked famously, "Where do I go to get my reputation back?" I think of that line in regards to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and I was also reminded of the prosecution in the Duke Lacrosse team travesty.

What's The Score?
All Classical FM in Portland, Oregon has a program that features music from the movies. Click the "On Demand" tab, and in the menu under 'current episodes', chose "The Score" -- it's a tribute to Bernard Herrmann. The previous week's episode spotlights the music from the "Star Trek" movies.
Those Evil Republicans!
What ridiculous propaganda: "Die-hard Democrat? Don't take your children to July 4th parades 'or they'll turn into Republicans'. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party." Honestly! You'd think parents were bringing their kids to strip clubs rather than to a parade!
