April Fools

Obama wants yet another stimulus to build bridges, roads, etc. Haven't we heard this before? In fact, every time I drive into a pothole,  I think about all the wonderful "shovel-ready jobs" our hero has created. How about making thugs like these work on road gangs rather than have them terrorize decent citizens?

Compare and Contrast

This idiot actually had the nerve to say that military funeral honors should be ended in order to save money.  These are people who risked their life for their country.  Meanwhile, you have millions of low-skilled illegal aliens coming here, who besides going on welfare and food stamps, are demanding free health care.  Demanding it, not asking for it or working for it.  I don't care who you are, nobody has the right to demand anything, and especially for free!

A Ban I Agree With

I don't know how they can possibly enforce this, but they really do need to stop reckless texting & driving to prevent more people from being killed by maniacs like this:  "Driver Britany Reinhardt is charged with aiding and abetting an impaired driver and allowing an unlicensed person to drive. The North Carolina Highway Patrol believes even though she was behind the wheel, her passenger Danielle Parker was steering while Reinhardt was texting."

"You Are Free!"

From the New York Times, here is a touching and well-written article about Rabbi Herschel Schacter, the only Jewish chaplain at Buchenwald's liberation, dead at 95.

September 11 in the News

In the continuation of a sad, long process, New York will resume searching for remains at Ground Zero.  For those who think we talk about 9/11 too much, why don't you tell that to the families whose remains haven't been substantial enough to find? And a decent judge has thrown out the lawsuit by disgraceful atheists over the 9/11 cross.  It's been 12 years, but some of us refuse to forgive or forget.

Odds and Ends

I saw two articles today that show the continuing, deliberate decline of this country. First, the Wall Street Journal reports that "Use of Food Stamps Swells Even as Economy Improves" (if it is indeed improving); second, NPR reports how easy it is to get disability benefits, even if you're not disabled. A few years ago, Obama accused the U.S. of becoming soft. Who's fault is that? It's become far too easy to become dependent without shame, and that is a shame.

I agree with this column when it comes to gay "marriage". Lisa Fabrizio writes, "Only in Barack Obama’s America are people told that they have more to fear from those who love God and the U.S. Constitution than from an all-powerful government which now seeks to divorce them from these two traits that formerly defined what it meant to be an American."  She wonders, "And finally, why civil unions don’t suffice to fulfill the needs of those whose human identity is based solely on sex acts, yet still want to be treated as 'normal'?"

Here are some amazing photographs of our solar system.

Political Correctness -- and Utter Stupidity

Incredible what they are teaching in schools these days -- it's more like left-wing indoctrination. Florida Atlantic has apologized after suspending a student after he refused to stomp on the name of Jesus. I saw articles trying to make the student out to be a liar, but it looks like he's been vindicated.  This reminds me of the story about the white privilege wristbands. What are they going to do with people who don't agree with this kind of thinking, send them to the Gulag for re-education?  Once again it shows how the left operates and how people who aren't politically correct sheep are branded liars and crackpots.

Ben Stein on Passover

Read Ben Stein's column about Passover, including this: "Good men died so we Jews could be free in America. Good women and parents and children suffered madly so all of us Americans could watch horror movies while we took our fiber. The happy times we know now were paid for in blood and tears and broken bones and broken homes. Let’s have some prayers for these saints."

Democrats vs. Republicans

In this David Harsanyi column,  he talks about what Democrats think of Republicans.

"This is what staunch conservatives stand for:
 1. Staunch conservatives want their party to resist the policies of a liberal president.
2. Stanch conservatives have a conservative disposition – in social and economic policy.
3. FOX News and Rush Limbaugh.
4. Racism

Republicans, then, could be popular once again if only …
1. They supported the liberal president’s policies.
2. Stopped going to Church and reading Hayek.
3. Watched CNN.
4. Stop pretending not to be racists and not be racists for real."

The liberals are desperate, aren't they? But if Republicans keep pandering to them, it's us who are going to look desperate.

Let's make out own list. Liberal Dems stand for abortion,  dependency on government,  political correctness,  climate change, Obamacare, moral bankruptcy, dependency on foreign oil and windmills, and gay "marriage".  They could be more popular if they brought back traditional values, morality, a work ethic, and personal responsibility. As John Wayne said, "That'll be the day."

Richard Milhous Obama

I've been making this same comparison for quite a while, but at least Nixon didn't hate his country or want everyone dependent on government! Plus, back then you didn't have a complicit media the way we unfortunately do today,

Personal Peeves

Can I just say how tired I am of people trying to goyische-ize the Jewish experience?  The Emancipation Proclamation is all well and good, but it doesn't belong at a Jewish seder.

Also, I get irked when the mainstream news channels make it sound like everyone in the country is in favor of, or thinks constantly about, such issues as gay marriage, Obamacare, abortion, gun control, and preventing global warming.  Evidently,  nobody bothers to ask the silent majority, and the Republicans are too spineless to differentiate themselves from the Democrats. We are conservative, not liberal; we are Republicans, not Democrats; and (though some find it hard to believe) we have our own opinions, thank you!

Overwhelmed by Technology

Oh dear. Is everything becoming extinct? Handwriting has fallen by the wayside,  regular books have become old-fashioned, and now comes word that the QWERTY keyboard may soon be a thing of the past. As Dale McFeatters says, "With the old standard manual typewriter, the users could concentrate on only one thing -- what they were writing. This no longer sounds like such a bad idea, antiquated though it may be."

Painful Shoes & Evil Eyes

Just when you think Obama couldn't outdo himself when it comes to infuriating you -- he actually told Israelis to put themselves in the shoes of the Palestinians and look at the world through their eyes.  No thanks. When you look at the world through their eyes, you only see the hateful Jews and the evil West.

William Teach has this rejoinder: "So, Israel has constantly been attacked by Palestinian thugs and terrorists who care nothing for peace (except for the peace where Israel and her people are wiped out), but, hey, put yourselves in their shoes. This reminds me of Obama’s written missive just 8 days after September 11th, where he called for empathizing and understand the animals who attacked and killed 2,996 people that day along with those around the world who danced in the street as the Towers fell. Perhaps he should tell Palestinians to put themselves in the shoes of the parents of Adele Biton, who was critically injured after Palestinians threw rocks at the car carrying her, her sisters, and mother, causing it to swerve and hit a truck. That’s what one Israeli lawmaker thinks."

Obamarama

Obama's charm offensive in Israel is as believable as the "Arab Spring".
Larry Greenfield has written an excellent analysis of what Obama thinks about Israel.
I like this Bernard Goldberg column about Obama and how nothing is ever his fault.
What a great line by Allahpundit, about Satan's (non)resemblance to Obama: "We’ll have a bona fide controversy on our hands if the actor who plays Jesus looks like Reagan."
Here's a good description of our President: "Deceiver-in-Chief".  As Ron Ross says, "America has made a grievous error in electing and then reelecting a leader who hates the country he’s leading. Everyone who loves the U.S. — its history, traditions, and a free-market, voluntary exchange economy — is profoundly disheartened by what’s going on before their eyes. Barack Obama is doing profound and long-lasting damage to the United States. He will continue to do so until people finally recognize who the real Obama is."

Our Petty President

How mean-spirited can you get? First, saying that because of the sequester, children would starve and the elderly would be pushed over the cliff. Next, children had to go without a White House tour. Now, thanks to the evil Republicans, children might even be deprived of the Easter Bunny! Good thing it's not December, otherwise Obama would certainly say that Santa might not show up. Sorry, this just isn't going to work, but nice try!

The Wide World of Obama

Here's a good headline from the Washington Post: "We love Israel, but Israelis don’t like Obama." Ain't that the truth! There's a lot of Americans who don't care for the man, either.
A few reasons why: the Keystone Pipeline, which of course he's against; and Obamacare, forced upon us, which sounds more outrageous by the day.  I bet the government will end up wasting millions to translate the applications into various languages and to hire people to fill out the Obamaforms for the applicants who are either too ignorant or too lazy to fill them out themselves! I prefer to pay the fine than be made to accept this.

Cool! Awesome!

This reason for voting for Obama is probably the reason most people voted for him: “Let me tell you something, Obama could have come out and said his A-B-Cs in the debate and he would have gotten my vote,” he said. “I like Obama, he’s cool, he got swag and that’s my president. Mitt Romney is a Republican. I’m not down with anything they stand for. Not to diss anybody else’s beliefs and what their vote is but I like Obama. He can’t do me no wrong.” The rapper who said this recently had Obama's face tattooed on his stomach. (When I read this, I thought of that Ramirez cartoon from Sept. 2012)

Argus Hamilton Quips

From today's column: "Detroit's former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was found guilty of massive corruption in his trial in Michigan on Monday. The judge really threw the book at him. After a long and harsh lecture, he sentenced Kwame Kilpatrick to two more terms as Mayor of Detroit."  Have you read about Detroit lately? It's become a slum -- and it's an embarrassment to this country.

Check out Aish's Passover video, which shows how today's media would cover the story.

Conspiracy Theories

Here's a charming incident from England: "Labour has suspended a peer who is alleged to have blamed a Jewish conspiracy for the prison sentence he received following a fatal motorway crash. Lord Ahmed, a Labour life peer, is alleged to have told a TV station in Pakistan that he was imprisoned in 2009 because of pressure on the courts from Jews 'who own newspapers and TV channels'. Isn't amazing how adults can't take any responsibility, and how it's either the fault of racism or the Jews?

S.O.S.

As soon as I saw this story, I had the same reaction as the commenters. I assumed this was deliberately done as a protest over Obama's visit! "Officials flag upside down stars & stripes; Banners displayed along the road to Jerusalem are suspended wrong way around due to sewing error." It didn't occur to me that it might be accidental. That's the reputation our president has.

Obama + Israel

Barry Rubin tells us what to expect when Obama visits Israel. And Jay Nordlinger writes, "This article says that President Obama has three goals for his upcoming trip to Israel. The first is to convince the Israelis that he is serious about Iran. The second is to get a better relationship with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Wonderful. And the third goal? 'Enticing Israel back to negotiations with the Palestinians.' Obama sees the Middle East conflict way one, I see it another. In my view, it is the Palestinians who need the enticing — and Obama seems pretty disinclined to do it."

Quite a Life

You have to read this delightfully-written obituary, seen at American Digest. Harry W. Stamps must have been something else!

Idiotic Laws

I love this section of Aaron Goldstein's article on the reversal of Bloomberg's ban on soda: "This country has survived two World Wars, a Depression, and a major terrorist attack. There was a time not so long ago when soda was the least of our problems."

In the same vein, Alan Caruba writes (in his column perfectly named "Stupid Food and Drink Bans"), "The founders of this nation fought a Revolution to rid themselves of a monarch and a parliament that thought they could and should tax everything it could to pay for their wars. Today, the vast bulk of Americans simply roll over and accept every idiotic law passed by Congress and others who feel they are empowered to determine every aspect of your life. They aren’t."

Hope from the Holocaust

Stories like this are so sad and so endless: "An Auschwitz Survivor Searches for His Twin on Facebook." -- "This June, Bodner, KimRon and four family members plan to make a trip back to Auschwitz, the death camp that once housed him, his brother, and his mother (a survivor who was murdered a year after the Holocaust while searching for her sons). The last time he was there was just a few weeks after liberation, when a Jewish journalist asked Bodner and his adoptive father to take him. As they approached the gates, the 5-year-old panicked. “I don’t want to go there,” he screamed. 'They turn people to dust in there; I don’t want to go there.'" I hope Menachem finds his brother.

Marilyn Maye

Stephen Holden writes enjoyable music reviews for the New York Times. I like this one about Marilyn Maye: "Wearing a glittering red dress, she could have been Mame, Dolly or any larger-than-life supergal from the Jerry Herman songbook to which she brings more vitality than any other contemporary performer. Her theme song is Mr. Herman’s live-for-the-moment anthem 'It’s Today.' Ms. Maye may be turning 85 in April, but she has more voice and stamina than most singers half her age. Although many of the songs in her new show, 'Maye-den Voyage,' are numbers she has performed before, nothing sounded stale on Wednesday. Her voice was full and rich and perfectly in tune, and she displayed a voluptuous enjoyment of singing."
(I like reading about entertainers who are still performing late in life. Here's a nice article about Herb Alpert, who is 77.)

More PC Stupidity

This has got to be the most politically correct story of the week: "A family in Caro, Michigan is outraged after their son’s elementary school told them to remove plastic Army toy soldiers from cupcakes that he brought in for his ninth birthday. Casey Fountain, the father of the boy, said the principal told him the decorations were 'insensitive' and that the cupcakes were not appropriate in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting."  See the comments that follow the story, most of whom feel the same way I do. I feel sorry for kids who are not allowed to behave like kids, thanks to the actions of spineless adults.

A Blog I Love

American Digest always has many wonderful things, including this video.

Argus Hamilton Quips

In his latest column, the author includes items such as this one: "The White House retreated Sunday and said sequester cuts won't be as bad as they'd warned. How could things be worse? After one day Queen Elizabeth was in the hospital, the pope is out of a job, and America's only defense against North Korea is Dennis Rodman."

Shriekquester

It was great to finally see Bill O'Reilly show some passion on his show last night over the sequester. I thought he was going to throttle Alan Colmes, who definitely deserved it!
By the way, in all the phony talk about cutting entitlements, there is one true entitlement nobody ever mentions, and that's welfare. Why should generations of people be sent a check for doing nothing? On the other hand, you work and you pay money into Social Security and Medicare,  and so you are entitled to participate in those programs.
And one more thing -- Obama is blackmailing the American people. He thinks that by siccing the illegal alien criminals on us, we will cave in and say, "OK! We give up! Keep spending us into more debt!" He reckons wrong.

Liberal Mourning

Read Howie Carr, whose headline concerning the death of dictator Hugo Chavez says it all: "Moonbats mourn another Red thug".

Pastry: The New Weapon of Choice

What has happened to the teachers and adults in this country when they react this way: "A seven-year-old boy in Baltimore was recently suspended from school because he was reshaping a breakfast pastry to look like a mountain. Apparently he's a creative kid. Nothing wrong with any of that except for one hair-trigger teacher who thought the reshaped pastry (hang in there with me, I did not make this up and you read that right) looked like the shape of a gun. And if that weren't horrible enough, she claims the child said the words (prepare yourselves) 'Bang. Bang.' At that point, it was all over for this little seven-year-old. Suspended!"
Read the rest of the article, too, to see another example of the increasing lack of common sense.

Another Unnecessary Remake

I could have told you that "Oz The Great & Powerful" could never live up to the 1939 classic. The Hollywood Reporter agrees, saying "Oz the Wimpy and Weak would be more like it." Why bother destroying the classics? Fortunately they haven't yet come out with the sequel (!) to "Casablanca", of which one commenter suggests,
"Rick (played by Robin Williams) was in love with Victor (played by Will Smith) but Ilse (played by Lindsay Lohan) was ill..."

Worse Than We Thought

From the New York Times: "The researchers have cataloged some 42,500 Nazi ghettos and camps throughout Europe, spanning German-controlled areas from France to Russia and Germany itself, during Hitler's reign of brutality from 1933 to 1945. The figure is so staggering that even fellow Holocaust scholars had to make sure they had heard it correctly..."
