Nothing Would Surprise Me

Melanie Phillips wonders, "Is the Obama administration using either leaks or black propaganda to sabotage Israel’s defence against the threat of genocide? America’s former ambassador to the UN John Bolton certainly thinks so – and he is not a man given to rash speculation."

Scathing Movie Review

Walt Disney must be rolling in his grave at the idea of this unnecessary version of "Snow White".

Watcher's Council

Here are the winning posts from the Individual Mandate Edition of Watcher's Council nominations.

Titanic Stupidity

The dope of the day: "The woman in my office was close to tears because I had inconsiderately given away the ending of James Cameron's epic flick 'Titanic.' 'The ship sank,' I had said. Apparently, this was a great surprise to her and completely ruined any chance she was going to have of enjoying the film that night. The revelation for me - other than that the educational system clearly had failed this woman - was that if you could only say one thing about the ship RMS Titanic, that would be it: It sank."

Peggy Noonan's Leg Stops Tingling

Betsy reacts to Peggy Noonan: "Welcome aboard, Ms. Noonan. Now you can realize what so many of those on the 'radical right' whom you so disdain have been saying the past four years."

Insistence on Government Assistance

Where can I sign up?: "A nightclub in Montgomery, Ala. is raising eyebrows by hosting a 'Food Stamp Friday' party on April 6 that seems to glamorize life on the federal government’s food assistance program. An invitation for the April 6 party obtained by The Daily Caller tells patrons of the Rose Supper Club in North Montgomery that the Friday night cover charge will be just $5 if a 'food stamp card' is shown upon arrival." How about bringing back stigma and discouraging rather than encouraging people to live off the government?

Winning Peeps

Here are the winners of the 2012 Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest! The winner was terrific, and I also liked finalist "Just Peep'd" and the semifinalists "Faster Than the Peep of Light?" and "Apeepment on M Street". What clever peeple these are!

Book Review

From Tablet magazine, a review of a concentration camp diary by David Koker: "Three things mark 'At the Edge of the Abyss' as an utterly distinctive and unique work of Holocaust literature that must be read now that an English-language translation exists. First, the insider account of a camp; second, Koker’s literary and analytic abilities; and third, the only first-person report of an encounter between a Jew and Heinrich Himmler, head Nazi and overseer of all the camps."

Pomp and Ceremony

Here are some beautiful photographs of the Royal Calvary, from the Telegraph.

Prescription for Disaster

Jim Mullen writes about the ridiculous medical ads on TV. After hearing the endless side effects (including minor ones such as death), I certainly wouldn't want to ask MY doctor if these drugs are right for me! Also, I wish they'd come up with a new all-medical TV channel and put these annoying commercials on it instead of bombarding us with them all night long.

Chutzpah of the Day

The Republicans are politicizing the killing of Trayvon Martin? The Dems ought to look in the mirror, especially Obama, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and "Congressman" Bobby Rush, who are adding fuel to the fire. They are destroying and dividing our country.

Check out the best of the Peeps Diorama winners. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the 2012 competition.

Lots 'o Links

Maggie's Farm, Betsy's Page and Nealz Nuze offer some good reading today.

Hanoi Jane Reagan

I thought this was a joke: Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan! What next, Vanessa Redgrave as Golda Meir?

Obamacare Cartoon

I enjoyed this Jerry Holbert cartoon seen at Lucianne.com today.

Soitainly!

Sorry, but there was only one original Three Stooges for me! Let's hope they don't try a remake of the Marx Brothers and Margaret Dumont next.

Politically Correct Education

Yet another reason that I am glad I was born in the 50's and had a normal education: "In a bizarre case of political correctness run wild, New York educrats banned references to 'dinosaurs,' 'birthdays,' 'Halloween' and dozens of other topics on city-issued tests. That is because they fear such topics 'could evoke unpleasant emotions in the students.'"

Cold Hearted

Obviously, the new heart Dick Cheney received was not donated by a liberal Democrat -- they have no heart.

Friday, March 23, 2012

See? Didn't I Tell You?

Political correctness in action: "Outrage as teacher tells pupils to hold a minute's silence for Toulouse terrorist who killed seven because he was a victim of an unhappy childhood'" The collapse of our society continues.

Pandering

I wanted to throw up when I heard that Obama actually said "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon". Maybe next time he addresses a liberal Jewish audience, he can say if he had other kids, they would look just like the Toulouse murder victims.

Watcher's Council

Start off the weekend with plenty of good reading. Here are this week's Watcher's Council results.

Cindy Adams on Life

I often get a kick out of Cindy Adams' columns, like this one.

It's Tou-Lousy

I'm glad "The Beast of Toulouse" has been killed. I don't want to hear a single excuse about what a "victim" he was or what a sad childhood he had, etc. The Times of Israel says: "The Toulouse tragedy is a reminder of a simple truth: acts of violence are preceded by words, and there are consequences to portraying Jews as segregationists, as human rights abusers, and as water thieves. Jews will be vulnerable as long as they are defamed, and this defamation will only end when we go on the offensive and when we have the confidence to stand for the truth." Also, make sure you read and pass along this Melanie Phillips column.

Out of The Frying Pan

Into the fire. Tim Tebow is now a New York Jet. Good luck to him in dealing with New York's notorious press. He's not a very good quarterback, but he is a very decent man.

New Images of Titanic

Titanic as she looks today. See more photos here.

The Hate That Never Ends

I wish the police would hurry up and kill this murderer! Or is it too politically correct to kill Al Qaeda terrorists?  In the meantime, read Barry Rubin's column: "It would be an exaggeration to say that Europe is no longer a safe place for Jews to live. Yet it is accurate to say that it is becoming an unsafe place for Jews to live, and certainly for those who wish to express mainstream Jewish views and to practice their religion openly. Meanwhile, the EU and various governments dare not admit that the principal cause of antisemitic activity is radical Islam, and the principal inspiration for popular antisemitism is trendy leftist ideas that now dominate much of that continent and are spreading in North America.
Thus, Jewish children are deliberately murdered by a terrorist in the midst of France. In response come get the formal statements and the crocodile tears. Yet at the exact same time as the bullets are entering the children’s bodies, as the victims fall to the ground, as the ambulance sirens sound, the incitement and the lies and the slanders continue, laying the groundwork for more hatred and more murder."

Bad Language

A. Barton Hinkle is wondering what happened to the English language. I wonder myself, every day, when I hear phrases like "I would of went" and "She could of came" spoken by news anchors and others. Don't they stress language and good grammar in schools any more, or is it now considered too politically incorrect to speak well?

Ben Stein's Column

I always enjoy Ben Stein's columns. In his latest one, he writes: "Friday at the Nixon Library was wonderful -- but that was before the President appeared on C-Span from Chicago."  Compared to Obama, Nixon was a great president!

Good Answer!

Romney had a good answer. But what continues to amaze me is how "free" birth control seems to be such a main priority for so many people! Don't they ever pay for anything themselves anymore?

Phony War

Kathryn Lopez has a good column defending much-maligned men in the Democrats' desperate "war" against women.

Antisemites Killing Children

It never ends: "Avram Azoulay, a 48-year-old resident of Har Homa who moved to Israel decades ago from Toulouse, described the Ozar Hatorah school shooting on Monday as an anchor of a community that fears growing animosity from its neighbors. He said a change had taken place in the city in recent years, and residents no longer feel comfortable or safe to walk around wearing a kippa or to talk openly about politics or Israel. Azoulay largely blamed the current fears in the community on what he said is an influx of Arab and Muslim immigrants."

What, Him Worry?

Peter Wehner on the Obama campaign documentary: "If there is one consistent theme to the Obama presidency, it’s that he’s sought to blame his failures on others: George W. Bush, earthquakes, tsunamis, Europe, the Arab Spring, ATMs, Wall Street, Republicans, the Tea Party, Fox News, millionaires, billionaires, conservative talk radio, and so forth and so on." Yes, it's "the main of steel" himself, Jesus-Gandhi-Martin Luther King-Abraham Lincoln, all rolled into one, manfully accepting responsibility for his disaster of a presidency and deserving of another chance! Lots of Links

Lots of links at The Anchoress, Sultan Knish, and at Betsy's Page. (Make sure you see the Paul Ryan ad at Betsy's.)

Irish and Jewish

This is the only kind of "green" I like! Happy St Patrick's Day: "In many ways, the American celebration of St. Patrick’s Day fits easily with Jewish life. Though it’s origins are clearly religious, St. Patrick’s Day as it is celebrated in the United States is a largely ethnic diasporic holiday, which helps those living at a distance affirm a commitment to homeland, that may exist only in realm of longing not in the realm of experience.  The ability to gather and celebrate a common heritage, to recall the place from which one originates, is common to both Jews and Irish living outside their homelands. The broadening out of this particularistic ethnic celebration into the mainstream of American life provides a model for Jews as we continue to integrate into American life. So whether or not your roots lie in the Emerald Isle or elsewhere, happy St. Patrick’s Day."

"Antipathy to Oil"

I've been outraged about Obama's opposition to self-sufficiency since he took office. It's a relief to see the columnists getting angry about his oil-resistence as well. The always-insightful Charles Krauthammer discusses Obama’s antipathy to nearby, abundant, available oil: "An oil crisis looms, prices are spiking — and our president is extolling algae. After Solyndra, Keystone and promises of seaweed in their gas tanks, Americans sense a president so ideologically antipathetic to fossil fuels — which we possess in staggering abundance — that he is utterly unserious about the real world of oil in which the rest of us live."

Turning the Tide...

... into yet another item for drug users! How long will it be before they end up banning Tide detergent or requiring you to show your ID so you can wash your clothes?! Again, it's just amazing that a small minority of morons and criminals makes daily life harder for the rest of us.

Wow! How do you like these amazing pencil sketches?

Well, Well, Well

Why Israel is smarter than the United States: at least they drill!  "Modiin majority shareholder Tzahi Sultan told Israel's Globes business newspaper that drilling at the Gabriella site should begin later this year, and a well will be in place producing oil in about five years." If they had permitted President Bush to drill, we could have had oil by now instead of being held hostage by an anti-self sufficiency president!

"War on Women"

Go online and type in war on women to see the latest propaganda raging out from the Democrats. What crap! This, along with the Sandra Fluke testimony, is nothing more than a way to divide the country and take people's minds off the real issues: the economy; the high gas prices; Obama's refusal to drill and his generally obstructionist ways; high unemployment; no jobs. You can tell me that this phony "issue" is high on the list of people's day-to-day worries! (Speaking of women, did you see Hillary Clinton, that harridan, shrieking on the same topic?)

I Just Don't Get It

Remember the good old days in the 70s when the Arabs held us hostage for oil and we had gas rationing? At least we knew who the enemy was then.  Now the the enemy who is holding us hostage is our own president. Jack Kelly writes: "We can't drill our way to lower gas prices, Mr. Obama said. The Institute for Energy Research says there are 1.4 trillion barrels of recoverable oil in the United States and offshore, 'enough to last at least 200 years.' But most are on public lands. Government policy keeps them locked up. 'The administration has done everything but support drilling,' said retired Shell oil company executive John Hofmeister. 'We are on the verge of slipping into an energy abyss.'" Maybe right before the election, Obama can add free gas cards to all the other entitlement programs he so encourages.

Adding Insult to "Injury"

Why do I believe that the reason for Tiger Woods' withdrawal from the Doral Open today was not due to a "leg injury" but due to sheer petulance over his poor play? The overhead media coverage of his drive away reminded me of O.J. Simpson, except that Tiger didn't have an Al Cowlings in the driver's seat. Let's see if the fawning flacks in the media dare to investigate.

The Only Response Terrorists Understand

Gee, I sure hope Obama won't be mad at Netanyahu for not giving the United States advance warning before retaliating against the 100+ missiles that have attacked them!

Pictures of Tragedy

A touching story about the reunion of precious photos with their owners after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Entitlements R Us

Here's the wonderful Mark Steyn on Sandra Fluke and the entitlement mentality: "When even casual sex requires a state welfare program, you're pretty much done for."

Argus Hamilton Quips

I like this one: "President Obama asked Israel to be patient with Iran during an Oval Office meeting on Monday. On Tuesday, the president assured Israel's prime minister that he'll always have the Israelis' back. They suspect he means back to Poland, back to Russia, and back to Germany."

Happy Purim!

Every year I enjoy The Forward's Purim parody paper, "sdrawkcaB".   Even the newspaper staff list is fun to read!

No Good Rotten Thugs

Talk about moral bankuptcy! There is something wrong when grown men steal from Girl Scouts. I have read several stories like this. When you have healthy, able-bodied, so-called "men" stealing from children or the elderly instead of working at any available job, we have hit rock bottom. I hope they are caught amid national outrage.

Obama The Snake

Michael Goodwin has Obama's number when it comes to his treatment of Israel:  "2-faced 2-step".  One of the commenters at Lucianne.com says,  "Obama is an evil man, enemy of Israel & America. It's so obvious even he has trouble covering it up." Again Israel is forced to grovel to Obama and the U.N. -- the Iranians must be very amused.

That's Entertainment

Now, that's real entertainment!
(As seen at the always-interesting New York Social Diary.)

Otto Kahn

Here's an article about Otto Kahn and his New York home. He was one of the many famous Jews I read about over and over in one of my favorite books, "Our Crowd" by Stephen Birmingham.

Everything is "Racist"

What has happened to this country when expressing pride is seen as racist?: "Racist? Texas high school apologizes for fans' 'USA!' chant after basketball game".  The fact that the high school actually apologized shows what political correctness and worries about "feelings" have done to America, where natural instincts are stifled. Maybe Obama will call the offended students and offer his apology, since he's so good at apologizing.

Netanyahu's Speech

Jennifer Rubin writes
"This is the essence of Zionism — namely that Jews are not sheep that can be herded off or bombed out of existence, but possessors of a vibrant state that can defend the Jewish people — that Netanyahu vividly expressed. And for 13,000 people in the audience and Israel’s friends around the world it was a powerful message spoken boldly that will not be easily forgotten."
While watching his speech, I had the same feeling as the Northern girl upon seeing Robert E. Lee: I wish he were ours.

AIPACman

I can't believe anything Obama says, and I'm only surprised that none of his supporters fainted or swooned during his AIPAC speech. (cartoon by Ramirez)

Priceless!

Doug Ross @ Journal has captioned this "The Obama-Democrat-Media Complex In One Photograph".  It's perfect! I'm sure we could come up with some other ideas for that "free" signs, such as "Unlimited welfare benefits here" or "Free Viagra & Morning-After pills".
