Yiddish Vinkl: The Queen of Words

Harold Ticktin's latest column concerns the wonderful word nebbish, which means a person who is a loser, and he links to this perfect anecdote: “Yiddish speakers have many words for losers: schlemiel, schnook, schmo, schmegeggie, schlub, pischer, nebbish and putz were just a few of mother’s many ways to dismiss or disapprove of someone, but Nebbish was the queen of words.” (bit.ly/33QKwEh)

Another London Brige Terrorist Attack!

Per the Daily Mail:  "TWO die in London Bridge terror attack: Maniac wielding TWO KNIVES on a stabbing rampage is shot dead by police after hero passers-by wrestle him to ground". I thought they were showing film of the 2017 terrorist attack until I learned this had just happened. CBS said it was a "terrorist incident" in quotes, but we all know what it really was.  As usual, a spokesman spouted the usual warnings about how we shouldn't rush to judgement or overreact.  Please  don't insult our intelligence. By now I think a normal reaction is a lot better than politically correct silence. The old phrase was "If you see something, say something", but now it's more like "Don't say anything about jihadists,"

There was also knife attacks in The Hague, and we'd better hope these are not connected.

Happy Thanksgiving! (Warning: Watch Video at your Own Risk)

Thinking of Thanksgiving reminded me of the lovely hymn we learned in elementary school, "We Gather Together To Ask the Lord's Blessing."   Of course, those were the good old days, before political correctness and "trigger warnings" destroyed everything decent and normal, when you could actually sing hymns and even Christmas carols in school without inciting protests.

A Babyish Fear of History

I saw this at Lucianne.com today, yet another instance of unbelievably ignorant and childish behavior in today's so-called adults:

"Washington and Lee U. Students Demand Removal of Washington and Lee Photos from Diplomas.   Students and faculty at Washington and Lee University in Lexington city, Virginia, are demanding that the school remove photos of George Washington and Robert E. Lee from their diplomas. 'We, the undersigned, call on the administration of Washington and Lee University and President William Dudley to provide students with the option of removing the portraits of namesakes Robert E. Lee and George Washington from their diplomas,' proclaim the law students in their petition. Washington and Lee University diplomas display portraits of both George Washington and Robert E. Lee, given that the school has been named after them."

Demand all you want!  Hopefully the school is smarter than to cave in to this stupidity.  I agree with this reader comment:  "f these moronic snowflakes don't want photos of Washington and Lee on their diplomas, they always have the option of transferring to another school. W&L needs to stand firm in rejecting this idiocy!!"

Another day, another PC lecture: The New York Times reports that the Oxford dictionary's word of 2019 is 'climate emergency'. Sure it is. Also, "In a break from precedent, the dictionary company released an all-environmental shortlist including 'climate action,' 'climate denial' and 'eco-anxiety.'" Right. I always use and hear those words every day.

Conservative Cave-in

It always makes me angry when liberals can boycott, riot, shut down speakers, and generally act like thugs, while conservatives rarely fight back. So I was very surprised and disappointed when I heard that Chick-fil-A, a restaurant that has been forced to defend normal values like marriage between a man & a woman, suddenly caved in to the demands of  a tiny minority and even betrayed the Salvation Army.

We need more people to stand up for conservatism and normalcy instead of kowtowing to every bizarre politically correct liberal group out there. The 2020 elections are coming, and the last thing we need is a collapse of conservatives at such a crucial time.

During cable news, I thought I was watching a Veterans Day Fife Parade but it just turned out to be Whistle Blowers on their way to lunch from the House Democrats' offices in lockstep.

Greg Crosby reflects on the minimization of the Thanksgiving tradition: "American popular culture jumps over the holiday on its race to get to the less thoughtful and more rambunctious partying and gift giving holidays. It's a true loss for all of us as a country.Thanksgiving was once about the coming together of family and thanking God, both of which have over time been marginalized in our secular society. The concept of a traditional family continues to be eroded away by our 'woke' politically correct culture, which much prefers to honor transgendered, homosexual, lesbian, and actually anything other than what was once considered 'normal'." Sad how a minority is succeeding in destroying all our values.

Continuing that theme, Elizabeth Warren is continuing the destruction of normal.  Talk about brainwashing, political correctness, and overexaggeration! The Dems must be desperate if they are pandering this shamelessly. She wrote, "Black trans and cis women, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary people are the backbone of our democracy and I don’t take this endorsement lightly. I'm committed to fighting alongside you for the big, structural change our country needs." I have no idea what "cis women" are and am sure I don't care to know, but if these people are considered the backbone, then it's a pretty spineless one!

For real backbone, remember Rick Rescorla, one of the heroes of September 11. Yesterday, this great man received a posthumous Presidential Citizens Medal.
