Olympics News

I thought the Olympics was all about good sportsmanship, so I feel sorry for swimmer Ye Shiwen, who is suspected of cheating. It sounds like sour grapes, and it's unseemly.  Will people apologize to her when it's proven beyond a doubt that she won because of natural ability?  Michael Phelps has won his 19th gold medal, and I haven't heard anyone accusing him of cheating.

They Can't Handle The Truth!

Isn't it amazing that when Romney says the same thing as what's in this article, that's considered a "gaffe"?  It looks like it's only a gaffe if it's the truth, and if it's said by a Republican.  People are so used to hearing lies and apologies from this administration that they no longer recognize common sense when they hear it. Also, I see the Palestinians are outraged over Romney's comments in Israel, so obviously he must not have pandered to them the way Obama does. I got an appeal and a bumper sticker from the Romney campaign in the mail today and will be sending in my contribution.

Lots 'o Links

Here's the latest Nealz Nuze. I hope Boortz continues writing this column after he retires next year.  And as always, you can also find interesting stuff at Betsy's Page, Maggie's Farm, and Larwyn's Linx.  Larwyn's references this People's Cube idea for a Progressive Olympics. I had to laugh at these Obama-inspired events:  Speed-Bowing, Teleprompter Dancing,  Extreme Fingerpointing,  Apology Tourism, and the ever-popular Synchronized Fainting. Happy reading!

Mayor Busybody

Oh, come on!  Wouldn't you think the Mayor of New York City would have more pressing issues than to get involved -- once again -- in everyone's lives"Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed."  Why is this his business? Make sure you read the comments below the story.

"The Real Barack Obama"

Here's a good ad from the RNC.  Dopey American Jews have less than four months to come to their senses. I've given up on other Obama supporters.

Olympic TV Coverage

I'm glad to see it's not only me who dislikes NBC's coverage of the Olympics. Many times I end up watching with the sound off;  or else I just read the British newspapers. NBC makes me miss Jim McKay.  Also, why is there always so much coverage of beach volleyball and other things most people aren't even interested in?
See Metafilter for more comments on the coverage.

America and Israel

Romney says deserves better than Obama. America deserves better than Obama, too. And Charles Krauthammer said that nobody who's pro-Israel would re-elect Obama "unless they’ve been in a coma for three and a half years.” Unfortunately, that describes an awful lot of American Jews.

Provoked by an 11 Month Old?

I've heard excuses before, but this is one of the worst.  They just showed sickening film footage on Judge Jeanine Pirro's show, and I am outraged at the excuse-making by the so-called "adult" relatives of this thug in the making!  Read the reactions by the readers on this website.

Jews: Exploited, but Smart!

What alternative universe is the hideous Nancy Pelosi living on? "Pelosi: Republican Jews 'Being Exploited.'"
"Pelosi made the comments in response to whether Jewish voters would support President Barack Obama in the presidential election later this year.

"I think [Obama] will" win the Jewish vote, Pelosi said, when pressed on the subject. "I think that he will, because the fact is when the facts get out. You know, as many of the Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy. So Israel, that can be one reason they put forth."
I'm sure some of her best friends are Jewish.

Olympics Review

I watched the Opening Ceremonies from the Parade of Nations on, and I found the choice of the flame-lighters extremely disappointing and anticlimatic. Anyone else feel the same way?  After Steve Redgrave passed the Torch to the seven young athletes, I was waiting for them to hand it off to a few more people along the way, fully expecting a famous athlete to be the one honored to light the Olympic Flame.  When it turned out that these seven were the Flame-lighters, I felt a tremendous let-down.  It reminded me of the reason Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize -- it wasn't for what he's done, but what he might do in the future!
The Parade of Nations is always delightful because the athletes are so good-looking and the clothes so colorful, and because of the facts you learn from the announcers about each country.  I always like watching the solemn bearing of the Olympic flag but was sorry to see the head of the U.N. there as one of the flag-bearers.
Having Paul McCartney end the night with "Hey Jude" was one of the highlights. He still sounds great, even though he is finally showing his age a bit. Think of the millions of people who have seen him perform that song over the decades!
I just read, and I'm glad to hear, that Ryan Lochte defeated Michael Phelps for gold in the individual medley. Another one I'm rooting for is 16 year old swimmer Missy Franklin.
Go, USA!

Three Cheers for the Congressman!

I saw this video on Fox News tonight. Finally, a Congressman passionately representing the people! The ovation Rep. Mike Kelly received was well-deserved, not only from his colleagues but also from hard-working constituents.

Antisemitism as an Olympic Event

I have no interest in judo, but I will definitely be rooting against the Lebanese now that I've read about this disgraceful behavior: "The Lebanon judo team has refused to train alongside the Israeli team, demanding that a curtain screen be erected so that the athletes would not have to see each other." Nothing like good sportsmanship to start things off!

Vote No on the Welfare-Packed "Farm Bill"

"Farm Bill" is a misnomer, since it seems to be all about food stamps. Congress should vote no, and vote yes for greater personal responsibility.

Should Knives Be Banned Next?

The Truth Hurts

Take a look at these random thoughts by Thomas Sowell, including this one:  "One of the most dangerous trends of our times is making the truth socially unacceptable, or even illegal, with 'hate speech' laws. It is supposed to be terrible, for example, to call an illegal alien an 'illegal alien' or to call an Islamic terrorist an 'Islamic terrorist.'  When the media refer to 'undocumented' workers or to violence committed by 'militants,' who is kidding whom — and why?"

The "Now I've Seen Everything" Award

If Walgreen's was forced to pull the Chia Obama off its shelves, you'd think there'd be a similar protest over this ad. Who knows? Maybe Obama can sell this item as a fundraiser! (via American Digest)

Tolerate It -- Or Else

The Anchoress is right in her definition of what "tolerance" means nowadays. She's discussing the gay "marriage" issue, but it applies to other issues as well such as abortion, support for Obama, and so forth:
"This is not about being 'right' or 'wrong' on an issue. This is about menacing and bullying people into conforming or paying the price. It’s about the bastardization of the word 'tolerance' in our society, to the point where the word no longer means 'live and let live' or 'let people be who they are'; the word has become distorted in a very unhealthy way."
It's gotten to the point where you no longer feel free to express your opinion, especially if you're a conservative among liberals. They now assume that everyone feels the same way they do on the issues; and woe betide to you if you don't. It's not easy continuing to stand up for your principles amid constant indoctrination.

Scary Statistics

Can we really afford another four years of this? And do we really want to allow our country, the most powerful in the world, to remain in this embarrassing condition?
"By July 1967, there 74,520,000 Americans actually working and 1,145,663 workers taking disability payments. That made a ratio of 65 actual workers for each worker collecting disability. In July 1987, there were 112,634,000 people actually working and 2,759,852 people collecting disability—a ratio of about 41 actual workers to each worker collecting disability. When President Barack Obama took office in January 2009, there were 142,187,000 people actually working and 7,442,377 workers collecting disability—a ratio of about 19 to 1. In June, there were 142,415,000 people actually working and 8,733,461 workers claiming disability—a ratio of about 16 to 1."
Asks Protein Wisdom, "The takers have just about entrenched themselves permanently into the majority. Can we really wait another several election cycles hoping the GOP wakes up?"

Good For a Laugh

These silly photos are guaranteed to make you smile.

Finding a Cure

Amen to the sentiment expressed in this op-ed piece by President George W. Bush: "Extend the success against AIDS to other devastating diseases".  It's about time they treat diseases like multiple sclerosis and ALS with as much zeal!

Celebrity Killers

Seth Liebsohn and Victor Davis Hanson have both written articles on the same theme: let's ignore these mass murderers, and remember their victims. Instead, the media fights to get the most coverage, and the most endless coverage, on the news and in the papers, and it's just unseemly. It also inspires copycats, who revel in the publicity. Here's Liebsohn:
"But can we please stop with the ubiquitous pictures of him, and, indeed, the use of his name?
He should not be glamorized or given any kind of proper-noun attention at all. There are a lot of reasons for this, but the first and most important reason is to discourage any other possible madmen out there from thinking that this is a good or feasible way to become famous, make a point, or express that which evidently such madmen think they need to do to be heard. Ideation is the term of art here — that’s what we want to prevent.
These perpetrators of inhumanity should not be heard from; they should not be known; they should not be followed; they should not be any kind of model. They should forever be known as a shooter or a perpetrator or an assassin or a murderer, not more. Indeed, upon taking up arms against innocents, they lose, they abdicate, any claim to be considered worth knowing in any respect whatsoever. They have alienated themselves from society, almost as if they have alienated themselves from being important enough to have a name like everyone else. And by “alienate,” I mean renounce — they have renounced their humanity."
and here's Hanson:
"In other words, I don’t care a whit whether the Aurora killer was a loner. I don’t care if he was unhappy or if he was on medication. Millions share such pathologies without killing a mouse. I don’t even know whether giving him swift justice will deter the next mass shooter. Yes, give the suspect expert legal counsel; call in all the psychiatrists imaginable; sequester the jury; ensure the judge is a pillar of jurisprudence; but if he is found guilty, I would prefer the gallows and quickly so, to remind us that we live in a civilization that prefers to remember the victims and to remember nothing at all of their killer."

Wow! Turn up the volume and enjoy. It sounds even better at the original website.

The World According to Obama

An Oklahoma City panhandler was arrested:  "According to the report, the officer asked Speegle why he didn't just get a job and Speegle replied, 'I'm lazy, and I made $60,000 doing this last year. Why would I go get a job?'"

Deliberate, Methodical Evil - Not Mental Illness

The Colorado slaughter reminded me of last year's killing rampage in Norway. I only hope James Holmes is executed and the families don't have to endure a trial. Let's focus on the victims of this assassin, and not give him the attention and publicity he doesn't deserve.

Murder at the Movies

All I can say is that it's too bad nobody in the theatre had a gun and could have killed this maniac!  It sounds like the Gabby Gifford massacre but on a more horrific scale. As usual, the Tea Party, Hollywood, and guns will be blamed for what sounds like the act of a terrorist. I will have the TV news off tonight, as I don't want to hear the usual excuses and rationalizations for this massacre, nor do I care to hear what the shooter's background is and what kind of a childhood he had. Spare me. The only people worth discussing are the innocent victims, who only wanted to see a movie.

What a Joke!

Read about these incidents of antisemitism by a creature who purports to be a mother. This is punishment?:  "Whelpley will not serve jail time but has been ordered to do community service, pay almost $1000 in fines, attend parenting classes and complete a course in tolerance."  Yep, that will definitely stop her Jew-hating ways!

Putting It Bluntly

Deborah E. Lipstadt writes about remembering the murdered Israelis at the London games: "Why the IOC refusal? The athletes who were murdered were from Israel and were Jews—that is why they aren’t being remembered. The only conclusion one can draw is that Jewish blood is cheap, too cheap to risk upsetting a bloc of Arab nations and other countries that oppose Israel and its policies." How nice that political correctness is more important than human decency.

And why is it that Nazis enjoy such long lives?

Must Not See TV

Lowlights of Pete Rose's reality show include moments such as this:  "The cameras will trail them through such events as Rose taking the family to visit the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, to Kim getting a breast reduction."

Barbarians in Bulgaria

"Atrocity" is right,  this attack on an Israeli bus -- and I hope Israel retaliates without first asking for Obama's permission.  But you know that whatever Israel does, criticism is sure to follow, so the U.N. ought to denounce Israel in advance and get it over with.

It's Great To Be Obama!

John Hawkins lists 20 reasons why it's great to be Obama. Reason #20 is as follows:
"Your biggest accomplishments so far after killing Osama Bin Laden are ending the manned space program, having the longest string of over 8% unemployment of any President since WWII, putting more Americans for food stamps than any other President in history, killing the work requirements in welfare, giving up on stopping illegal aliens, adding more debt in three and a half years than Bush did in eight, and decimating America's health care system with the least popular entitlement program in history. Yet, you still have a chance to be reelected. It doesn't get any better than that."
And take a look at this sign of Obama's success.

Romney: Waking Up To The Threat

This is a good opinion piece from the Washington Post. I've been worried that Romney was going to be another John "Don't say bad things about Obama" McCain, but his fiery response to Obama's anti-business speech has given me hope. He should keep pointing out the difference between Obama's vision of a dependent America, and his own vision of a self-sufficient America.

A Nation of Freeloaders

This is happening because Obama has vilified work, success, and business; and because there's no longer any stigma, shame, or embarassment associated with being on the dole.
"Make no mistake: Barack Obama is cultivating a parasite culture in the United States with the clear intention of ensuring that he gets the votes of society's leeches -- people who would rather freeload than earn a living for themselves.
John Stossel's report on Fox was vivid. Able-bodied people walking right past shops with signs in the windows saying, "Help wanted, no experience necessary" as they lined up to sign forms to get welfare checks at a New York office. Black business owners explaining that they had all-white staffs because no blacks would apply, even in a predominantly black neighborhood.
And atop all this, Obama undermining the welfare reform laws that were passed during Bill Clinton's presidency. The obvious purpose: buying the votes of leeches with taxpayer dollars."
Yes, he's transformed America, all right, for the worse -- and citizens simply aren't outraged enough to care.

Our Shameless Society

Here's an example of the entitlement mentality run amuck. Maybe she should ask Obama to help:
"An Ohio woman is begging on the streets but she’s not homeless or desperately hungry - she wants bigger breasts. Much to the dismay of fellow beggars who desperately need money for food or a roof over their heads, the bikini-clad woman has been making money and turning heads with her plea for plastic surgery. Holding a sign that reads ‘Not homeless. Need boobs’ the woman, who only identifies herself as Chrissy, 37, has been standing on a busy street corner in Akron, Ohio."
The real boobs are the ones who donate!

Most Memorable Televised Events

According to a new study, the 9/11 attacks are most memorable TV event of past 50 years. That makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense are some of the other events on the top 20 list, including the fact that Obama's acceptance speech rated higher than JFK's assassination and his funeral! And how can the trial of Casey Anthony be on this list at all?

The Gimme State

Still more embarassassing evidence of the entitlement mentality that's so prevalent in this country. Don't forget -- Obama's got "stash"!

Great Moments in Parenting

To refer to this disgraceful creature as a mom does real mothers a great disservice. The fact that there is no law against dumping your own children -- especially your mentally retarded adult children! -- is a great outrage.  She has the gall to call the reaction "a big hoopla out of nothing." Maybe the authorities couldn't do anything about this, but you would hope that the disapproval of appalled citizens -- and a load of hate mail -- just might make up for it.

Never Forgotten

Jewish World Review covers this touching story of Germans who chose to remember their neighbors:
"A plaque hangs on the wall of a well-to-do apartment building in a quiet German street commemorating nearly 30 former residents driven from their homes or murdered by the Nazis.
In the entrance hall their names are listed one-by-one -- most died at Auschwitz, Theresienstadt or Treblinka. They may have long been lost to Hitler's hatred of Jews, but they are not forgotten.
Thanks to the efforts of a group of Berliners to trace the Jewish residents who once lived in their building, the victims are finally being remembered where they used to live."

A Tax and Attacks

The increasingly desperate Obama has once again raised the "tax the rich" issue, and he is using wealth envy in his attacks against Romney. It's very tiring. If Romney is smart, he will just say "There he goes again" and continue to talk about the lousy economy and the out-of-control spending.  Obama is also attacking Romney for outsourcing jobs. This is the pot calling the kettle black, since he is the one outsourcing our jobs -- right to the unemployment rolls, the welfare rolls, the disability rolls, and the food stamp rolls!

Watcher's Council

Here are the latest Watcher's Council winners.

What's At Stake In This Presidential Election

As Stephen Stills sang in Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth", John Hinderaker writes that there's battle lines being drawn in this election. The choice is clear:
"If you think 'the private sector is doing fine,' then you probably also think that steadily losing ground, with more and more Americans facing economic distress, means 'moving in the right direction.' Actually, the only ones who think we are moving in the right direction are those who want to increase dependence on government. If you want more Americans on food stamps; more on disability; more on welfare; ever-increasing unemployment rates for minorities and the young; more on unemployment compensation; more begging in the streets–then, yes, Barack Obama is the candidate for you. Many Democrats actually want such failure, such dependence, to increase, because it will add to the power of government and therefore the power and financial dominance of their party. That is why the Obama administration is urging its supporters to sponsor in-home food stamp parties, much like Tupperware parties, to try to increase enrollment in that program, so that Obama can go down in history as the Food Stamp President.
If these indices are not your idea of progress, then the choice couldn’t be clearer. If you haven’t already donated to the Romney campaign, you should go here and do so."
And in this article, you can see that Obama's kind of "change" isn't the kind we want, if this is the result: "Not only are we a nation of takers, we may increasingly be a nation of malingerers." We need to reverse this decline, before it's too late.

Celebrity Media

I honestly don't care about either Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes, but am I the only one who finds the coverage of their divorce one-sided in her favor? It reminds me of the way Prince Charles and Princess Diana were covered before her death -- he was the villain, while she was the victim. After she died, the truth came out, and the media was actually apologetic for having been manipulated. I doubt we'll see much of that here.

(Mitch Albom has the right idea:  "If I were king of the world, I would insist on a moratorium for Hollywood marriages: no talking about them until their 10th anniversary. No photos. No magazine covers. No gossip page items. No selling the video rights. Actors, rock stars, famous celebrities, reality TV show participants -- all would be forced to wed quietly and privately with no media attention whatsoever.")

This week is the anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg, and I happen to be reading a new novel called "Cain at Gettysburg" by Col. Ralph Peters.
