When I came across Ronald J. Kozar's column titled Opioid, Schmopioid, which is subtitled "It's not an epidemic, and they're not victims", I wanted to kiss my computer screen in relief. Finally! It's about time people speak bluntly instead of misplacing their sympathy.
What really should outrage people is that because of the abuse of painkillers by reckless, stupid people, responsible people suffering agony from diseases are being forced to go without the help they desperately need. Why should they be deprived of pain relief just because junkies choose to snort, inject, or gobble down pills despite all the warnings, and then unsurprisingly end up dead?
The $45 billion dollars the Republicans want to throw away on this self-inflicted problem could be much better off used elsewhere.
