Since the scandal last week that led to the resignation from the FL congress by Republican Mark Foley, I've been thinking about the difference in media coverage of him, and of former disgraced Democratic NJ Governor James McGreevey. McGreevey, married twice, with children, and involved in a gay sex scandal, has been all over the airwaves promoting his sordid bestselling memoir and being hailed as a hero of some sort. Congressman Foley, single, was found to have exchanged sleazy e-mails with a teenaged page. Somehow I doubt he will write a tell-all book or receive celebrity treatment.
This all let me to this Wizbang post, "What if Mark Foley Were a Democrat?", which includes this: "To begin with, Foley would have been lauded by the Democrat leadership for his courage and dignity in pursuing an "alternative lifestyle," and for openly championing his unique sexuality in that hostile, homophobic environment otherwise known as the U.S. Congress."
"Courage", "dignity", and "class" were indeed just 3 of the words used in support of ex-Gov. McGreevey. I'm waiting to see if Foley receives similar support, but it may be a long wait.

Denouncing Israel
Jihad Watch reports on a
pro-Hamas, anti-Israel rally in Gaza. This certainly bodes well for "the so-called Israel", doesn't it?
And wouldn't you think that thousands of people in a refugee camp could find more constructive things to do than condemn Israel?
-------------------------
"Tens of thousands of Hamas supporters held a peaceful rally in Gaza on Friday to denounce the state of Israel and declare that they would never recognize its right to exist.
"We ask God to punish the so-called Israel and the allies of Israel and to punish those who recognize Israel and those who called on us to recognize Israel," Hamas lawmaker Mushir al-Masri told the crowd that thronged the Jabalya refugee camp."

Keep on Kowtowing
Glenn Beck did a "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more" routine on his CNN Headline News TV show tonight, provoked by the latest thing that Muslims are offended by: opera by Mozart!
The Germans were angry, but the opera was actually cancelled anyway by cowardly officials. Mozart must be rolling in his grave.
Beck mentioned other examples of inane things that offend Muslims; yet a Muslim video he showed that exhorts Muslims to kill Jews is one of the things the media has chosen to consider inoffensive.

Body Language
Here's another terrific item from Betsy's Page
Betsy's post on Time magazine's analysis of President Bush's body language made me laugh, because what she says is all so true, especially this spot-on remark:
"If Time Magazine wants to analyze body language, how about Clinton's in his interview with Chris Wallace yesterday? They could write a whole article looking at when Bill Clinton wags his finger at someone."

First Hilary Clinton, now George Allen.
Nothing makes me NOT want to vote for a candidate more than his or her sudden announcement that they have Jewish blood.

"People don't want to work"
As a full-time worker and a taxpayer, this story made me angry.
Apples ripen as growers seek pickers
Thursday, September 21, 2006
By LORI MATSUKAWA / KING 5 News
SEATTLE - Washington's apple harvest is in full swing but many growers say they may have to let a lot of their crop rot. Local growers say they can't seem to find the 30,000 people they need to harvest apples and pears.
......................
Growers have tried to get local workers, offering $10 to 12 an hour.
“We went after non-traditional workers -- housewives, high school kids, ex offenders, people on welfare, and the response has been very minimal,” said Larry Sanchez of Washington Employment Security. “People don't want to work.”
Obviously not.
During the Depression, whole families had to work, or they starved. There were no safety nets then. Now, we have too many entitlements, yet people still demand more. We who work have to work harder and pay more taxes, while those who make bad choices are seen as victims at whom even more money and entitlements should be thrown.
Unless a person is elderly or crippled, there is no reason you can't work -- especially if you're a man.

Bill Clinton Gets Mad
Read about how Fox's Chris Wallace was the only reporter brave enough to ask former President Clinton about terrorism during his presidency.
Is it just my imagination, or didn't the first World Trade Center attack occur in 1993, before our current President could be blamed for it?

I heard a few news outlets reporting that Bin Laden is either very sick, or very dead. With the press as untrustworthy as it's been, I wouldn't believe that story until I had DNA proof.

No Surprise
Is there any surprise at all that yesterday's pro-Israel rally in New York received no coverage?
According to Little Green Footballs: MSM Completely Ignores Pro-Israel Rally
Astoundingly (or maybe not), yesterday 35,000 people turned out to demonstrate for Israel and against Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad...
...and not a single mainstream media source carried the story.

Helping Jewish Soldiers
Jews in Green offers a list of ways you can help brighten up a Jewish soldier's life by adopting him or his unit; sending him the books he likes; and sending CARE packages. I've done this, and even a small thing like a letter really makes a difference to our servicemen.
Speaking of soldiers, whatever happened to the kidnapped IDF soldier Gilead Shalit and his 2 comrades? Why isn't this mentioned in the news any more?

Astronomy Picture of the Day
I just came across this terrific website, Astronomy Picture of the Day. Today's image is the famous one of Gene Cernan from Apollo 17, standing on the moon's surface alongside the American flag. I just love that picture.
(Recently there was a TV show in which conspiracy theorists said such photos were actually taken in a Hollywood studio, and that we never went to the moon at all. Some people have way too much time on their hands!)

UN-fathomable
When I came home from work tonight, I learned that President Bush had given his speech to the United Nations General Assembly earlier in the day, but that "the whole world was waiting" to see the speech by the Iranian lunatic, which will be shown in prime time.
Who schedules these things? If he had to speak at all, shouldn't the Iranian dictator's speech been buried in the daytime hours, while the President's address shown while people were home to watch it?

Thank you from Kurdistan
Has anyone seen the TV commercial that's a thank you from Kurdistan, "the other Iraq"? I wish it were shown more often. Of course, some are saying it's only a Republican publicity stunt. I guess when there's good news, or when oppressed people show any pro-American feelings, it's obviously phony.

This Story is a Real Gas
What greedy, ungrateful fools! I wonder how many of them were driving SUVs, and how many will have the nerve to sue!
Gas Deal Leaves Customers Fuming
Dozens of customers complained Saturday when a Dekalb County gas station set its price for regular unleaded gas at $1.99 a gallon.
It's a deal, they admitted. But they expected a bigger bargain.
"It's not worth this much time waiting in line as long as I did to save five bucks," said driver Daniel Holloway. "My time's worth more than that."
Holloway and other drivers began lining up before sunrise at a Chevron station on Glenwood Avenue near I-20 for what they thought would be a steal.
All night, the sign outside advertised gas for $1.59 a gallon.
"Times are hard, so everyone wants a deal when they can find one," said driver Ed Gresham.
It seemed too good to be true, and it was.
"Looks like they're fixing to change the price," said driver Jerry Wolf as he watched employees huddle inside the gas station, which was closed overnight. "They have a handful of numbers in there."
When the station opened about an hour late at 7 a.m., employees changed the sign and increased the price by 40 cents a gallon to $1.99.
"I think this is not right, it's false advertising and bait and switch," said driver Clara Delay.
Those who were first in line left before filling up because they were frustrated by the sudden price hike.
"For this price, I can buy gas in my own neighborhood," said Delay, who drove from Stone Mountain for a bargain.
Saturday was supposed to be the second day of the $1.59 deal offered by new managers as a way to build customer loyalty.
But they told 11Alive News off-camera that the demand Friday was so overwhelming, they couldn't keep their tanks full or control the traffic.
With the new price, just under $2, the station stayed competitive and very busy throughout the day Saturday.
Managers said they will not make any promises about the price of gas going forward.

Muslim Catholic-Bashing
I was disappointed to read that Pope Benedict said he apologized if he offended Muslims after having quoted an obscure medieval text that criticised some teachings of the Prophet Mohammed as "evil and inhuman". If anything, he should be congratulated for stating the obvious.
And if anyone should be apologizing, it ought to be the Muslims, not only for reacting to everything they don't like with rioting, looting, name-calling, and inciting to murder; not only for their murderous plot on September 11; but also for this latest example of their brutality, the murder of a nun!
I remember many years ago when Sinéad O'Connor ripped up a photo of Pope John Paul II on "Saturday Night Live" and sparked a furor. That was nothing compared to the vitriolic attacks by word and by deed by Islamofascists against Catholics. Will we hear a similar furor now, or is everyone too silenced and intimidated by political correctness to speak up against this latest outrage?

Another Example of the Religion of Peace
Eye On The World says "To further prove that Pope's remarks that Islam is a violent religion are wrong, a Somali cleric called on all Muslims to hunt the Pope down and kill him."
Sounds like proof to me!
(AFP) A HARDLINE cleric linked to Somalia's powerful Islamist movement has called for Muslims to "hunt down" and kill Pope Benedict XVI for his controversial comments about Islam.
Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin urged Muslims to find the pontiff and punish him for insulting the Prophet Mohammed and Allah in a speech that he said was as offensive as author Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses.

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) - Pakistan's legislature unanimously condemned Pope Benedict XVI. Lebanon's top Shiite cleric demanded an apology. And in Turkey, the ruling party likened the pontiff to Hitler and Mussolini and accused him of reviving the mentality of the Crusades. Across the Islamic world Friday, Benedict's remarks on Islam and jihad in a speech in Germany unleashed a torrent of rage that many fear could burst into violent protests like those that followed publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. By citing an obscure Medieval text that characterizes some of the teachings of Islam's founder as "evil and inhuman," Benedict inflamed Muslim passions and aggravated fears of a new outbreak of anti-Western protests.

The Silence is Deafening
Again, I do not understand John McCain's silence on the subject of torture. The Senate keeps talking about our use of torture and our "mistreatment" of terrorists.
McCain sits mute, when he has a golden opportunity to say, "I know what real torture is. I was beaten and hung from ropes, had my shoulders broken, was held prisoner for 5 years. THAT is torture".
And I certainly don't understand Colin Powell's statement that ``The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism.''
"The moral basis"? "The moral basis" is only things such as Leon Klinghoffer; the USS Cole; the Khobar Towers; Robert Stethem; and the Iranian hostage crisis!

The Israel Project is sponsoring a petition to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to help organize the international community and stop Iran’s terrorist offenses. Help them deliver a petition with tens of thousands of signatures.
Go here to tell Kofi Annan in your own words why Iran should not get the nuclear bomb.
(I'd also like to tell Kofi Annan in my own words what I think of him personally; and tell him that he shouldn't let that Ahmadinejad speak at the U.N.!)

More on the Bush Assassination Movie
Would you like to see the video of President Bush being assassinated? Apparently The Daily Mail thinks you can't wait!
The headline reads, "Watch the video of George Bush being assassinated", as if it's some normal everyday occurrence rather than a sick idea.
I have no intention of watching the video or seeing the upcoming movie and just hope that common decency triumphs over moral bankruptcy when this film opens here at home. But I have a feeling there will be lines waiting to get in, like there were when Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" opened here.
Let's also hope that some crackpots don't decide to carry out this assassination for real.

"Jewish Prayers Incorrect in Canada"
From the terrific anti-political correctness website Tongue Tied comes this story
An Orthodox Jewish man was removed from an Air Canada Jazz flight in Montreal last week for praying, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation reported on Wednesday.
"He was clearly a Hasidic Jew," said Yves Faguy, a passenger seated nearby. "He had some sort of cover over his head. He was reading from a book. He wasn't exactly praying out loud but he was lurching back and forth," Faguy told the CBC.
Yep -- sounds like a terrorist to me.

The President's Speech
Nealz Nuze says it in a nutshell, below. The word 'appeasement' is appropriate when describing today's voters. I don't think people ARE listening, otherwise the President wouldn't have had to say the same things over and over for the past 5 years. I am convinced that even another attack here wouldn't change their warped way of thinking.
BUSH GETS IT MOSTLY RIGHT
So the commander-in-chief spoke...but are people listening? Do they really understand the threat that Islamic terrorism poses? Do people really realize that right now...today...we are as much at risk for terrorist attacks now as we were on 9/11/2001? It never goes away. Right now, there are terrorist cells in this country plotting and scheming to kill as many of the non-believers as possible.
It was a good speech, but it probably didn't change too many minds. Maybe in the next few months the American people will realize that appeasement is not the best strategy and will go into the voting booth and make the right choice.

EDWARD F. BEYEA: INDOMITABLE SPIRIT
The following is my tribute to Edward F. Beyea, as part of the 2,996 Project (http://www.dcroe.com/2996/) honoring the memories of the victims of September 11, 2001.
EDWARD F. BEYEA: INDOMITABLE SPIRIT
Everyone loved Ed. Bright. Cheery. Always telling jokes. Happy. Inspiring. Larger than life. These are some of the descriptions of 42 year old Edward F. Beyea by those who knew him. A computer programmer for 14 years at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, he worked on the 27th floor of the North Tower at the World Trade Center.
Born on July 3, 1959, he grew up in Bath, NY "with a great circle of friends, among whom he was known for his energy, his enthusiasm, and his drive to push the envelope".
As a young man, "Ed made everyone laugh; even the teachers could not help but enjoy having him around in spite of his boyish antics. He emitted 'life'", remembered Diane Warner-Fisher. He was the class clown, others recall, the life of the party.
"Ed had a gift for story telling...he kept us laughing with his great sense of humor and his skillful delivery of the punchline. In spite of this, he took his friendships very seriously. He was very sincere in that. Ed taught us that life is to be enjoyed, and to live each moment to the fullest. He exemplified this, both before and after his accident, " recalled Mary (Joyce) Bennett
A diving accident when he was 22 years old left him paralyzed from the neck down and requiring round-the-clock care.
In 1983, Ed was in rehabilitation for the injury that left him paralyzed. Chaplain Robert Hyde "remembers him as having a great sense of humor that helped him to cope."
Becky Carter McKenna: "Meeting him {in the hospital} impacted my decision to go into the Fire Service/EMS, and news of his slow but steady recovery always inspired me. "
Later, he took courses at a computer skills program for people with disabilities and was hired by Blue Cross, working his way up to high-level program analyst.
Glen A. Rivara met Ed in a computer classroom. "His wheelchair never stopped him from learning, working, living and loving life to the fullest. From the day I met Ed and for the rest of my life, I will never face a difficult challenge without thinking, ' What would Ed do? Ed wouldn't quit so I can't either.' "
His dedicated aide for 14 years, Irma Fuller, described him: "He was crazy, full of life, a very charming man. His mind was brilliant. He was a happy man, smiling and telling jokes."
He went to work by subway every day despite his handicap. To type on his computer, he used a mouthpiece. His chin controlled the movements of his motorized wheelchair. Yet he didn't give up and he didn't complain. His sense of humor remained and his determined spirit remained in the face of these daily challenges. "He always (gave) you a cheery good morning. He always had something funny to say." said Fong Chin
Ed was extremely sociable and made friends easily. His closest friend was Abraham Zelmanowitz, who worked in the same office. Evelyn Zelmanowitz, Abe's sister-in-law: "Abe was a devoutly religious Orthodox Jew and Ed was a Christian, and even though they came from such different backgrounds, they had many common interests. They enjoyed the same music, books, movies, computer games, jokes, and they often went out to dinner together with other co-workers." Every three months Ed, Abe, another friend, Manny, and Ed's aide, Irma, would go out for a special dinner. They took turns picking up the tab, never skimping, "always at a kosher restaurant. Whatever they wanted, they got."
He had already faced the greatest challenges in his life with courage and humor. Now, on September 11, 2006, Ed decided to wait behind as others evacuated first. As they waited for their turn to be rescued, his best friend Abe Zelmanowitz helped Ed Beyea talk to his mother by dialing and holding Ed’s cell phone to his ear. They succeeded in persuading Irma to save herself. Firemen told them periodically that someone eventually would try to carry Beyea out. Somehow these two men made it down 6 flights to the 21st floor. Exhorted to leave numerous times, Zelmanowitz refused: “No,” he said, according to a building staff member, “I’m staying with my friend.”
Ed Beyea. He inspired by example, and encouraged others. His warmth and courage affected everyone who knew him. In return he received the devotion of many, and the selfless loyalty of one. Everyone lucky enough to have met him will never forget him.

September 11, 2001 Video Tribute
One of the many fine You Tube tribute videos is
this one by Brian Wallentein
The networks have resisted showing this kind of footage for 5 years, claiming it's "too graphic". Has political correctness made them afraid to show the truth? I maintain this should be shown more often, so we never again become complacent, and so we never ever forget who did this to us.

Tribute to the Brave Souls on United Flight 93
If it weren't for their bravery and sacrifice, the U.S Capitol would have been yet another target, and who knows how that would have further changed our lives? I still can see the members of Congress spontaneously singing "God Bless America" on the steps of the Capitol late in the day on September 11, 2001. If not for the courageous actions by the passengers of flight 93, there would not have been that singing, those steps, or that Capitol.

Remembering the 9/11/01 Heroes and Victims at the Pentagon
The death toll at the Pentagon was: 125 people at the Pentagon, and 64 people on hijacked American Airlines Flight 77.
Go here to view a video and photographs, and to read recollections of that tragic day in Washington, DC.
Also you can see one of my favorite photographs, that of the fire and rescue personnel unfurling a huge American flag over the side of the building, during the visit of President Bush to the site on 9-12-01. To me it was a sign of pride and defiance, a message that we were bloodied but unbowed.

"Wake Up! We Are At War"
The American Thinker links to a very good op-ed column by former New York Mayor Ed Koch in
The New York Press:
Ed Koch's reminder - by James Lewis
Former New York Mayor Ed Koch has an op-ed in the New York Press which demands to be read. A sample:
Why do so many Americans refuse to face the fact that our country is at war with international terrorism? [....]
One Congressional Democrat, John Conyers of Michigan, announced his intention to impeach the President when Republicans lose control of both Houses of Congress.
There is something terribly wrong with people seeking to demean and weaken the president in wartime, thereby strengthening our country’s enemies. As a result of the language and tactics of those opposed to our presence in Iraq, our enemies have been emboldened, believing the American public to be sharply divided on the war, and in fact at war with itself. To other countries, Americans appear pitted against one another not in an election, but in a verbal bloodbath, convincing the world we are impotent—a paper tiger.
The tyrannical forces in Iran led by its president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, make clear that if they can destroy us, they will. Ahmadinejad has said about the United States, “…Is it possible for us to witness a world without America and Zionism?...you had best know that this slogan and this goal are attainable, and surely can be achieved…” Ahmadinejad has also stated his goal of destroying the state of Israel several times, saying, “…Israel must be wiped off the map.”
If a sovereign nation makes such threats, do those who are threatened have to wait until the missiles are in the air before taking action? Or may threatened states defend themselves with preemptive action?

Nice Article on the 2996 Project
As September 11 nears and all the conspiracy theorists, "root-causers", terrorism-deniers, America-bashers, and Muslim-supporters continue to come out of the woodwork, I wanted to share this nice story about the 2996 Project which is honoring the victims whose lives were cut so savagely and so tragically short. These are the only people we should be talking about.

Sandy Berger
I laughed when I heard about
this.
Analysis: Sept. 11 miniseries under fire
A statement from Samuel "Sandy" Berger, who was national security adviser to President Bill Clinton at the time, calls the scenes involving him "complete fabrications."
That's rich, coming from a man who stole top secret documents! We still don't even know what those classified papers contained, papers that just happened to jump into his socks and pants; and it seems that nobody cares.

Crikey!
Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin's sudden death was shocking enough, but it's just as
terrible to read about this.
The only possible reason the film footage of his death would be shown on TV is for ratings. The public seems to be fascinated by death and murder, the more gruesome the better. Let's hope that simple decency will prevail and this video not shown.

Ridiculous Lawsuit of the Week (so far)
I just read about this idotic lawsuit and had to blog it.
Passengers complain after Tyler sings
PARIS, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Passengers on a flight from France to Mauritius have filed suit against Air France after musician Bonnie Tyler performed a song at the request of the co-pilot.

Illegal Immigration
This is a very good website that shows real-time data about the illegals who continue to come here and make demands. Among other information, ImmigrationCounters.com displays such statistics as:
number of illegal immigrants in our country; the amount of money wired to Mexico; and the cost of Social Services for illegals.
Maybe all the people who support out-of-control immigration should take a look at this website and let the numbers speak for themselves.
Also, Steve White reports from West Virginia that employers who hire illegals are actually receiving tax credits!
Stop worrying about political correctness, the race card, and the victim card. If you are an American citizen who goes to work every day and pays taxes, you should be very angry.

Converting the Media
Read Mark Steyn:
"Did you see that video of the two Fox journalists announcing they'd converted to Islam? The larger problem, it seems to me, is that much of the rest of the Western media have also converted to Islam, and there seems to be no way to get them to convert back to journalism."

Why DO We Need Further Convincing?
Victor Davis Hanson once again lays out the case against Muslim terrorism in
this September 1 article on the National Review Online website.
Titled "The Waiting Game:Do we really need further convincing of the threat we face?"
it makes for compelling reading, as his writing always does, and he ends this way:
"Given Iraq, Afghanistan, and the acrimony at home — so similar to the debate right before Pearl Harbor over the earlier discounted fascist threat to the United States —we apparently are waiting for the enemy to strike again, before renewing the offensive. So while we keep our defenses up at home, foster democracy in the heart of the Middle East in Afghanistan and Iraq, and hope the globalized march of modernity undermines jihadism faster than it can disrupt the 21st century, we also wait — for the next blow that we know will come."
And when that blow does come, it will be George W. Bush's fault, of course, and once again we will hear about the "root causes" and the oppression of Muslims -- and nothing will change.

"Israel: A Country That Lives in Fear"
My British friend Edna Levi is a prolific writer of letters to the editor, and she often gets them published.
Scroll down and read this one from the 8-11 Yorkshire Evening Post.
On the same page you can find a letter from Gary Sockall, another regular contributor. He ends by saying, "There is no doubt that [Israel's] war against terror is the same as our (England's) war against terror."
And, there is also no doubt whatsoever that Israel's war on terror, and England's war on terror, are the same as America's war on terror. We stand united against terrorism.

Outrageous Comparison
I'm sure every Jewish blogger will be writing about this, thanks to Little Green Footballs!
9/11: Five years later - Typecasting Muslims as a Race
“Muslims are the new Jews,” said Paul Silverstein, an anthropology professor at Reed College in Oregon who studies the intersection of race, immigration and Islam.
If you have a strong stomach, you can read the entire article here at the San Francisco Chronicle

Disrespectful Headline of the Day
The Associated Press reports:
Woman in JFK Limo During Shootings Dies
Isn't this disgraceful? The "woman" was Nellie Connolly, the wife of Texas Governor John Connolly. She was the First Lady of Texas, a gracious and elegant woman, as I recall.
If you know anything about Texas or the assassination of JFK, you'd know that Nellie Connolly was more than just a "woman in limo".

Should We Be Surprised By This?
Olaf Wiig, who, along with Fox News reporter Steve Centanni, was captured by Muslim terrorists and forced to convert to Islam, now says he can't hate or condemn his captors. He also is sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.
Maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome. Or maybe it's just more liberal psychobabble, and he actually means it.

"The Media War Against Israel"
Hereis another perceptive column by Melanie Phillips, who begins,
"Early in the recent Lebanon war, the blogosphere revealed the fabrication of images by Reuters, whose reputation is now in shreds among those dwindling numbers in the western mainstream media who still acknowledge there is such a thing as the truth. Since then, the nature and scale of the various frauds perpetrated by the media during that war put those doctored Reuters pictures into the shade. The western media are no longer merely producing questionable professional practices in reporting a war. They are now active participants in it --and on the wrong side of history."
Was this technique of fake photos and biased reporting used during WW2? Maybe by Hitler's Propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbles, but I can't even imagine our own press stooping to that level.
