What a story! The great swimmer Dara Torres made her fifth Olympic team last night by coming in 1st in her freestyle final. She embodies the Olympic Creed, which states, "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."
(I had to use the "mute" button when announcer Rowdy Gaines [who truly lived up to his first name last night] kept shrieking about the fact that Torres is 41 years old. That's 41 -- NOT 81!)

She made me proud. She's older than I am, not much, but enough to give me hope of making one more Olympic team.
