"A Jewish Prayer for the New Year
Dear Lord:
May we get a clean bill of health from our dentist, our psychiatrist, our ophthalmologist, our cardiologist, our gastroenterologist, our urologist, our proctologist, our gynecologist, our podiatrist, our plumber and the IRS.
May our hair, our teeth, our facelift, our abs, our honey cakes, and our stocks not fall and may our blood pressure, our triglycerides, our cholesterol, our white blood count, our weight and our mortgage interest rates not rise.
May we find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in less than an hour and when we get there, may we find a parking space.May we all relax about the third millennium of the common era, and realize that we still have 239 years until the down of the sixth millennium of the Hebrew calendar by which time the computer will be long since obsolete and so will we.
May G-d give us the strength to get through this presidential campaign and may some of the promises made be kept. May we believe at least half of what the candidates propose and may those elected fulfill at least half of what they promise and may the miracle of reducing taxes and balancing budgets come to pass.
May we be awestruck by God's sense of humor as we realize that a professional wrestler could have become president of the United States and that an Orthodox Jew has risen to prominence in American politics while remaining true to his Jewish roots. It is my belief that God's joyous humor is the reason he really does not want us to touch our toes while exercising or he would have put them further up our bodies; and, the reason so many of us take up jogging is to hear heavy breathing again.
May what we see in the mirror delight us and what others see in us, delight them. May someone, as well as God, love us enough to forgive our faults, be blind to our blemishes and tell the world about our virtues.
May the telemarketers wait until after we finish dinner to call us. May our checkbooks and budgets balance and may they include generous amounts for charity.
May we remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to our spouse, our child, our parent, all of our significant others but not our boss, our intern, our nurse, our masseur, our hairdresser or our tennis instructor.
And may the Messiah come this year, and if he does not, may we live as if he has, in a world at peace, with awareness of God's love in every sunset, flower, baby's smile, lover's kiss, and every wonderful astonishing beat of our heart. May we smile and laugh throughout the year."

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I first saw this prayer years ago for Rosh Hashanah. It's still appropriate now!
More Man-Caused Disasters
Never call a spade a spade: "However, for the Obama administration, the systematic campaign of anti-Christian terror in Nigeria is simply “senseless.” According to an article (“US condemns ‘senseless’ Nigeria bombings”) from the AFP, the White House spokesman seemed hesitant to even label the bombings an act of terrorism."

Ed Koch on Ron Paul
He's so right: "It is incredible that a
Republican candidate for president in the year 2012, supported by white
supremacists, Jew haters and gay bashers, is a frontrunner in the
upcoming Iowa caucus. The U.S. did itself proud in 2008 by electing an
African-American for president. Our better angels prevailed four years
ago in not allowing race to dominate our decision-making.
Notwithstanding that Ron Paul is in the lead in Iowa, I believe
Republicans will do what is morally right and reject him, and select one
of the other Republican candidates".
The More Things Stay The Same
Things haven't changed at all, as you can see from Instapundit's 10-year-old post on antisemitism and anti-American sentiment. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
The Obamedia
I spotted this cartoon at Lucianne.com. The media are willing captives in the effort to reelect Obama.

About Thomas Friedman
Our old friend David Gerstman has written the definitive article on Thomas Friedman: "Friedman’s record on the Middle East shows that he is not — despite his lame protestations to the contrary — Israel’s friend."
And The Oscar Goes To...
Seeing the film footage of this orgy of grief on TV, all I could think was that the North Korean people are not only totally brainwashed, but also amazingly good actors! Imagine how they would have reacted if Kim hadn't starved them!

I Resolve To Defeat Obama
This is funny -- check out these ideas for Obama's New Year's resolutions (via Lucianne.com).
Wise Thoughts From Thomas Sowell
Here are just two observations from Thomas Sowell's "Random Thoughts" column:
"The real egalitarians are not the people who want to redistribute wealth to the poor, but those who want to extend to the poor the ability to create their own wealth, to lift themselves up, instead of trying to tear others down. Earning respect, including self-respect, is better than being a parasite."
"Can you imagine a man who had never run any kind of organization, large or small, taking it upon himself to fundamentally change all kinds of organizations in a huge and complex economy? Yet that is what Barack Obama did when he said, 'We are going to change the United States of America!' This was not 'The Audacity of Hope.' It was the audacity of hype."
Raucus Caucus
The closer we get to the Iowa caucuses, the more nauseous I feel. I have never considered Ron Paul to be a Republican at all and think he's in the race as the spoiler -- and he's doing a good job of it, too! Read this Byron York piece, courtesy of Instapundit. Paul and Obama are equally dreadful candidates, and it's very frightening to think that this is the best the Republicans can come up with in such a critical Presidential race. Let's hope the other candidates have some good vice-presidential choices in mind that may help turn the tide in their favor. As Argus Hamilton quips, "President Obama enjoyed a five-point jump in the Gallup Poll Thursday in
his largest weekly approval gain. No one thought he could get
re-elected a year ago. Things were looking pretty bad for President
Obama until the Republicans began putting up candidates."

It's...A Leg!
This is a clever cartoon combining the famous leg lamp with the sneakers that created a disgraceful frenzy. By the way, don't people get tired of shopping? I saw another bumper-to-bumper miles-long traffic jam headed for the Mall today. A month from now, I'd like to see a chart comparing what people charged this Christmas compared to what they actually pay on their credit card bills.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I like stories like this: "More than 60 years ago, Acker Hanks sent a Christmas card to a friend as a joke. He didn't think it would turn into anything, but the card has since crossed the United States 64 times and serves as a reminder of a treasured friendship that began after he graduated from Sam Houston State University." Hate, Political Style
Victor Davis Hanson has a very good column about opposition to Obama vs. Bush Derangement Syndrome: "Tragically, in the end it is just that simple: Hating Bush is understandable opposition; opposing Obama is unfathomable hatred." (via Instapundit)
Sneaker Stampede Stupidity
More on yesterday's utterly disgraceful sneaker stampede. The last line of this column by Kelly Dwyer was quoted on ESPN radio this morning.
"Michael Jordan fans and a whole lot of utter and absolute morons descended upon malls across America early Friday morning to push each other over and destroy property in order to buy some basketball shoes. What I find appalling is that people are blaming Michael Jordan, Nike, and the shoe stores but not blaming these thugs themselves! Nobody forced them to buy these shoes. some commenters are blaming "the rich" for buying the sneakers. Excuse me, but these stampeders didn't exactly resemble Wall Street bankers. Also, someone ought to ask them how wasting money on sneakers is going to improve their lives. I doubt hiring managers will be impressed when you show up at an interview wearing these. And please, don't insult our intelligence by complaining about how poor and hungry you are.
The re-release of the Air Jordan 11 can hardly be called a 're-release,' because Nike and Jordan Brand attempted (and succeeded) to dish up some needless hype and intrigue by only releasing 100 pairs of the shoes to certain stores. Twenty-five years into this game, both companies knew that the limited supply would result in long lines and potential chaos as shoppers attempted to grab a pair, but Nike and Jordan Brand haven't always been on the cutting edge when it comes to caring about anything more than the bottom line, have they?
Why care, when you can drive people to this, as reported by ABC:
Police had to smash the windows of a car to get two toddlers out after a woman had left them there to go buy the shoes. She was taken into custody when she returned, according to the AP.
The Indianapolis Star was at one particularly ugly scene:
'The door broke and was hanging by a hinge and people were squeezing in anyway,' Asia Coates said 'People were falling down.'
She said one woman was knocked down, got back up and was the second person to buy the shoes.
Andre Mitchell, 28, Indianapolis, said he stepped over downed shoppers. 'It wasn't personal, it was business,' Mitchell explained.
No, it's not business. You're just a moron."

The Anti-Israel President
Watch this video from the David Horowitz Freedom Center titled "Obama: the Anti-Israel President". Doesn't it make you feel good to have an anti-Israel and anti-American President?
What a Miracle!
Isn't this incredible?: "An Indonesian girl swept out to sea in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and long feared drowned has apparently turned up in her village and been reunited with her parents seven years later."
Christmas Spirit Across the U.S.A.
When supposedly there are no jobs, there's no money, and there's never any food on the table, here's what people's priorities are: "Babies Left In Cars, Shots Fired, Doors Broken Down: Just Another Air Jordan Release Date In America". What an embarrassment.

O Good Music, Where Art Thou?
Metafilter has some great links to the music of "O Brother, Where Art Thou. I never cared for the movie but I did buy the soundtrack, mostly for "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow".
"Dying" Last Words
Gall of the day: " Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, Lockerbie bomber, insists: I’m innocent... and really dying." Well, if he's dying anyway, can't we just execute him and get it over with?
The Year's Worst Liberal Reporting
The Media Research Center offers the Best Notable Quotables 2011, The Twenty-Fourth Annual Awards for the Year’s Worst Reporting . I have to quote the Obamagasm award winning quote in its entirety, because it's impossible to paraphrase this with a straight face:
“Can we just enjoy Obama for a moment? Before the policy choices have to be weighed and the hard decisions have to be made, can we just take a month or two to contemplate him the way we might contemplate a painting by Vermeer or a guitar lick by the early-seventies Rolling Stones or a Peyton Manning pass or any other astounding, ecstatic human achievement? Because twenty years from now, we’re going to look back on this time as a glorious idyll in American politics, with a confident, intelligent, fascinating president riding the surge of his prodigious talents from triumph to triumph....’I am large, I contain multitudes,’ Walt Whitman wrote, and Obama lives that lyrical prophecy....Barack Obama is developing into what Hegel called a ‘world-historical soul,’ an embodiment of the spirit of the times. He is what we hope we can be.”

Thomas Sowell on Newt Gingrich
Read this column. He writes:
"Those who want to concentrate on the baggage in Newt Gingrich's past, rather than on the nation's future, should remember what Winston Churchill said: 'If the past sits in judgment on the present, the future will be lost.' If that means a second term for Barack Obama, then it means lost big time."I agree, and I've been leaning towards Gingrich myself, because of his accomplishments in the past, and also because he can hold his own in debates with Obama. It reminds me of 2008 when we voted for McCain not because he was the greatest candidate, but because he was the best alternative to Obama. Right now, the candidates should stop bickering and agree that their enemy (and this country's enemy) is Obama, not one another.

Who Do We Appreciate?
The Syrians miss President Bush -- and have come up with the perfect slogan for the 2012 campaign: "The World is Better With America's Republicans".
It's All About Obama
Every day there's something in the news that makes you despise this administration more. When blaming Bush no longer works, just have the loathesome Axelrod blame the Republicans: "Obama's chief campaign strategist David Axelrod tells FOX News' Ed Henry that the Republicans are trying to 'slow the recovery down' and delay the creation of a half million or a million jobs to hurt Obama." Oh brother!

Pelosi's Preposterousness
Here's a good reader comment about Nancy Pelosi's latest bright idea: "I think Nancy should follow her own economic advice, and quit so she can live on unemployment benefits and create those imaginary jobs she keeps talking about. If you want to live off unemployment benefits forever, vote for a democrat. If you want a job, vote for a republican." Now that would make an excellent Republican presidential slogan!
(And don't forget this suggestion from last year: "Pelosi to Aspiring Musicians: Quit Your Job, Taxpayers Will Cover Your Health Care")
(And don't forget this suggestion from last year: "Pelosi to Aspiring Musicians: Quit Your Job, Taxpayers Will Cover Your Health Care")
Hamas Hatred
A succinct headline at Israel Today: "Hamas: Vote for us, we kill more Jews!"
"Hamas on Wednesday marked its 24th anniversary by playing up how many Jews it has managed to murder. The highly publicized event (and grisly casualty figures) came just months before Palestinians are scheduled to go to the polls to elect a new parliament and president. My, how encouraging!
In an official statement Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, boasted of killing 1,365 Israelis and wounding another 6,411 in 1,117 terror attacks over the past two decades. The group also noted that it had fired over 11,000 rockets and missiles from Gaza into southern Israel.
Hours later, tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered in Gaza City to celebrate Hamas' founding and its successes against the hated Jews of Israel. Speakers at the event reiterated Hamas' dedication to eliminating Israel, and decried ongoing Middle East peace negotiations as a failed experiment."

A Return to Adulthood
Here's a very good article about our entitlement mentality, via Instapundit. Unfortunately, if you think like this in a liberal office, you don't dare express yourself; they think poverty is the fault of the rich, they never blame Obama, and they never hold the people responsible for their own condition. This is another reason why the Republicans had better stop attacking each other and start demanding personal responsibility and a return to the work ethic by the American people, and an end to the EPA regulations that are strangling this country and giving people an excuse not to work.

More Anti-Christmas Insanity
I just love the annual stories like this. It's as if people are vying to see who can be the most petty and ridiculous at Christmas time. (As seen at Political Correctness Watch)
Nazi Hunters
Good! "Nazi hunters launch new drive to prosecute war criminals. The Nazi-hunting Simon Wiesenthal Center launched a new drive in
Germany Wednesday to catch the last perpetrators of the Holocaust still
at large based on a major legal precedent set this year." I don't care how old these criminals are -- they've all lived longer than their victims and deserve to be punished.
Tebow Derangement Syndrome
Is everyone insane? I just heard this on Fox: "In the category of bigotry and hatred spares no religion, we find such hatred hiding behind religion in one “Rabbi” Joshua Hammerman of New York City. Hammerman has indulged his inner Father-Coughlin-in-reverse by proclaiming that if Tim Tebow wins the Super Bowl, why, Christians will go on a rampage that will result in the burning of mosques and the bashing of gays. Now, are you ready for some football?"

Beauty at American Digest
Yet another beautifully-written essay by Gerard Vanderleun: "When I fell out of life my angels came at the run with a roar and restored me with two inches of compression at a hundred beats a minute to the tune of 'Staying Alive.' My angels do 24 hour shifts over at Engine 8 on the top of Queen Anne Hill. On Wednesday I shook their hands."
Blame Clinton!
Obama hasn't blamed Bush in at least a week, but now he's even blaming Bill Clinton! It's desperation time for sure.
Whatever Became of Grownups?
Gerald Nachman, in his article "The Teening of America", talks about how our declining culture is catering to the immature. This sentence sums it up pretty well, I thought: "I suspect one reason Mad Men made such an impact is that it's about actual grownups (however messed up), with real jobs and serious problems, all dressed in business clothes, who inhabit a seemingly long-ago adult world".

It's About Time!
Via Instapundit, here's a very good summing-up of Newt Gingrich's politically incorrect truth about the "Palestinians":
"The importance of Gingrich’s comment was that it skewered a false historical narrative which dominates the international debate and is used for the demonization of Israel and its chief supporter, the United States.
Newt was absolutely correct to say enough already with the falsehood. If it upset the Palestinians, well too bad. It’s about time a prominent political figure in the United States didn’t just voice support for Israel but did so in a historically accurate manner which addressed the false Palestinian narrative of perpetual victimization."
Top Five Greatest Jewish Films
Here are Tablet Magazine's top 5 greatest Jewish films of all time. I love their #2 choice, "Sunset Boulevard".
Tebow Time
Here's a round-up of Tim Tebow stories. I had to laugh last night when ESPN's Chris Berman, Tom Jackson & Trent Dilfer couldn't find words to explain the Tim Tebow phenomenon of last-minute wins, but Berman compared the mystery to that of the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs, and the Loch Ness Monster! I think that basically, Tebow proves that it's not how you win or lose, it's how you play the game, and that character still counts.

The Class Warfare President
Over at Betsy's Page there's a list of the divisive words used by Obama in his latest "the rich are evil" speech. This alone should leave no doubt as to his socialist agenda and to the fact that he is encouraging, if not inciting, the Occupy movement. The Republican candidates must stop fighting one another and start uniting to defeat this man.
Baseball Boo-Boo
Ugh, here we go again. Baseball player Ryan Braun has tested positive for steroids. It's an embarrassment for baseball, and an embarrassment for Jews. Nothing is worse than winning by cheating. He should be stripped of his MVP status immediately.

The Truth Hurts -- When You're a Republican
Gingrich tells the truth - and gets in trouble "Gingrich Tells Truth about ‘Palestine’—MSM Goes in a Dither. One of the cardinal rules of politics: you’re not supposed to tell the truth, only polite lies.
One of the pleasures of Newt Gingrich is that he occasionally disobeys this rule. He did so again in an interview with The Jewish Channel that has set the world in a dither, by saying such things as: It’s 'delusional to call it a peace process,' claiming that the Fatah-run Palestinian Authority and Hamas alike 'represent an enormous desire to destroy Israel.' Well, duh." (from PJ Tatler)
The American Spectator quotes Golda Meir: "There were no such thing as Palestinians. When was there an independent Palestinian people with a Palestinian state? It was either southern Syria before the First World War, and then it was a Palestine including Jordan. It was not as though there was a Palestinian people in Palestine considering itself as a Palestinian people and we came and threw them out and took their country away from them. They did not exist."

Justice is Served
I don't want to hear the excuses or the protests from the anti-death penalty crowd. Both of these vicious animals should be executed as soon as possible, and in the exact same manner as their helpless victims. Killers like this don't deserve to live another day, but they'll probably end up sitting on Death Row for 20 years at taxpayer expense.
A Danger at Home and Abroad
Since the Republicans don't do it often enough, we must continue to attack Obama for his dangerous policies. Suzanne Fields says, "Jewish voters, many of whom are still enamored of the president, might think long and hard about how their man actually regards what's at stake in the Middle East, and how he might deal with Israel if he is re-elected and no longer has to worry about running for office or campaign money from the Jews."

The Politically Correct Way To Explain Terrorism
Sometimes, it's hard to believe that news like this is true, though with this President, anything is possible: "The Obama Administration has taken the unusual step of labeling the Fort Hood Massacre as a case of workplace violence."
Argus Hamilton Quips
Argus Hamilton comments on the news of the day: "The American Heritage Dictionary changed its definition of anchor baby Monday to term it as offensive after pressure by Hispanic groups. Things have really changed. For the first time in two hundred years you have to press two to read the dictionary in English."
"A Tough Time For Jews"
Cal Thomas says "It's a tough time for Jews" : "No intelligent person who has observed the media attacks against Israel (not to mention the many wars, countless terrorist incidents and continuing threats directed at Israel's destruction) can credibly conclude that Israel's enemies are merely hyperbolic. Despite all the agreements, goodwill gestures and disproportionate prisoner exchanges in which Israel has released hundreds of alleged terrorists in exchange for a single captured Israeli soldier or civilian, there are people who continue to advance the fiction that only Israel stands in the way of peace."

Pearl Harbor Survivors
How anyone survived the brutal attacks is beyond me, but here are some eyewitness accounts. Also, read this touching story about veterans who asked that their ashes buried on their ships in Pearl Harbor, alongside their buddies. When I read things like this, it makes me even angrier to hear the moral equivalency argument used when critics say, "But look at how we interred the Japanese!" Yes, but at least we didn't massacre them!
Entitlement Mentality Outrage
Stories about the Occupiers stealing other peoples' homes are appalling and frightening, especially since the police are doing nothing to stop this theft. There's only one house I'd like to see occupied by someone else -- and that's the White House.

What a Kidder!
You have to hand it to Obama -- he sure knows how to make a joke: "In small-town Osawatomie, in a high school gym where patriotic bunting lined the bleachers, Obama presented himself as the one fighting for shared sacrifice and success against those who would gut government and let people fend for themselves."
Book Ideas
Here are some book recommendations from Thomas Sowell. I already have the Musial biography on my list.
Defending Tim Tebow
Rich Lowry has a terrific column on Tim Tebow "By any reasonable standard, though, Tebow is a blessing. He won't be getting arrested for groping a woman at a Halloween party (Julian Edelman), for accidently shooting himself with the Glock he smuggled into the dance club (Plaxico Burress) or for running a dog-fighting ring (Michael Vick). He won't be taking performance-enhancing drugs. He may or may not continue his success on the field, but he will do everything he can to respect his teammates and his G0d. Here is a prominent player who will almost certainly never require fathers to make awkward explanations to their kids about some spectacular scandal. Rejoice, America, rejoice." Too bad the media doesn't fawn and flack over him the way they do Tiger Woods!

The Obama Administraion: The Most Pro-Israel Antisemites
Read Jonathan S. Tobin's column about antisemitism in the Obama administration. One of the commenters writes, "Since saying that Obama has been the most pro-Israel President of all time didn't catch on (basically as dumb as the majority of Jews in the US were for voting for him in the first place they are not all that dumb to buy into this garbage) the Obamabots have to blame the problem on someone else, namely Israel. If its Israel's fault then it can't be Obama's, and the Jews should come running home to the DNC."

Antisemitism in the News
Now I've heard everything: "The U.S. ambassador to Belgium, Howard Gutman, recently told a conference hosted by the European Jewish Union that Israel is to blame for growing anti-Semitism harbored by people of Muslim faith." Also, did you know that the adjective "Israeli" is politically incorrect? And by all means, let's not be hasty and jump to any conclusions about the attack on five Jewish stores in New Jersey!

Convenient Lies
I look at MarketWatch every day to check the stock market, and when I saw the glowing headlines there today, I felt the same as Don Surber in his column: "8.6% unemployment? Baloney".
