Awaiting Selection

This photo is in the Spring 2014 issue of Memory & Action, the magazine of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and it immediately made me send a donation. The photograph's ominous caption is "Jewish women and children from Subcarpathian Rus, then a part of Hungary, await selection on the ramp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. 1944."  This is the 70th anniversary of the deportation to Auschwitz of 425,000 Hungarian Jews in only 55 days.
