Melania Trump, Successful Diplomat

It was wonderful watching Melania Trump hosting the Ukrainian and Russian delegations at the White House today to discuss the rescue mission in the city of Oleshky.  It's a small thing in the war, but even a small success can become a larger success.

The media has always given short shrift to Melania, especially after their fawning towards Michhelle Obama and Jill Biden.  So I was glad to see this welcome editorial from the 11-3-26 New York Post regarding her efforts.

Hail Melania Trump, the one US diplomat making a difference in the Russia-Ukraine war

"Exactly one US diplomat is showing results when it comes to Russia’s war on Ukraine: First Lady Melania Trump, whose focus on small, discrete goals yields real victories.

"With minimal publicity, she’s gotten dozens of Ukrainian kids returned to their families and locked down a temporary local cease-fire in the frontline city Oleshky, opening vital evacuation corridors allowing nearly 800 civilians to evacuate.

"She hopes to enlarge on that next week, hosting a White House sitdown looking at a larger cease-fire across the Kherson region.

"Meanwhile, the Kremlin continues its long-distance slaughter of the innocents, killing dozens one day by dropping bunker-busters on a school used as a relief center, and dozens more the next by targeting another aid station.

"Not to mention its nightly bombing and droning of Ukrainian power plants.

"All this is Vladimir Putin’s tone-setter for next week’s talks in Abu Dhabi, where the likes of special envoy Steve Witkoff will again try for a full cease-fire.

"Of course, the first lady isn’t pretending she’s going to end the war; she’s just trying to save some lives.

"Then again, she’s succeeding.

"You have to wonder what the president’s other diplomats might achieve if they quit pretending, too."
