Tea Party Update
More reporting on the nationwide Tea Party. The last sign shown is my favorite: "Stop stealing from workers to reward deadbeats".
Concerning Raoul Wallenberg
Here's a very well-written and touching article on his family's search for Raoul Wallenberg.

The Death of Handwriting
Here's yet another wonderful thing that is in danger of becoming extinct in our insane society: good, old-fashioned handwriting! The BBC asks you to send them a sample of your own handwriting, and I'll participate from work next week.

Watcher's Council Nominations
Soccer Dad reports that this week's Watcher's Council nominations are up.
Tea Party!
Here are Tea Party photos and news from around the country. It's so encouraging to see this idea take flight, and to see that, despite what Charles Schumer says, the "chattering classes" ARE interested in what's in the stimulus bill -- and we don't like it a bit!
(Speaking of money, I am sick and tired of hearing the media demonize wealthy people who have earned their money. These are people to admire, not vilify.)

"Mother" of the Day
Can you imagine having to write this headline?
"Louisiana woman accused of trading kids for cockatoo"
Wendy Richard
She played Miss Brahms on "Are You Being Served?" and Pauline Fowler on "EastEnders". The wonderful Wendy Richards has died at 65. I've been a fan of both shows and have watched "EE" for the past 15+ years; her Pauline was one of the greatest and most believable characters, and I loved her.
"Spivs and Chiselers"
Andrew Bolt of the Australian Herald Sun offers this very perceptive analysis of Obama in comparison to Bush:
"GOOD thing for Barack Obama that he isn't George Bush. He'd have been slaughtered for starting so badly that he's picking a Cabinet of tax cheats. But a month since he was sworn in as President, Obama has lost not a fleck off his golden tongue. Nor has he stopped entrancing opinion makers as America's first African-American leader. So for those impressed more by words and racial symbols than performance, the most unqualified president since before even John F. Kennedy remains above the kind of vicious media criticism routinely heaped on Bush. But how loudly would the people who cheer Obama have screamed if Bush had, for instance, surrounded himself with this extraordinarily long list of spivs and chiselers?"

No Time for Terror
Well, isn't this special? A politically correct new Homeland Security chief:
"Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano avoids mention of the terms 'terrorism' or 'Sept. 11' in remarks prepared for her first congressional testimony since taking office, signaling a sharp change in tone from her predecessors."Of course! That would have offended the Muslims! Sept. 11, Sept. 11, Sept. 11 -- so there!

Bailing Out Terrorists
Soccer Dad has the perfect name for Obama's astounding awarding of $900 million to rebuild Gaza: it's a "terrorist stimulus package".

Good News From Israel
I liked what The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler had to say regarding Netanyahu as Prime Minister:
"Finally, FINALLY! H’Shem be praised! As America has lost its mind, it looks like Israel is regaining hers."

Watcher's Council for 2/18/09
Soccer Dad spotlights the excellent list of Watcher's Council entries submitted on 2/18/09.
Carnival of the Stimulus!
With all the loathsome news out there, someone ought to put together a Carnival of the Stimulus! While we wait for that to happen, read Betsy's Page:
"Whoa! Who would think that Jack Cafferty would write such a scathing criticism of how this stimulus bill was put together? But there isn't one word of this rant that I would disagree with."She's exactly right -- and so is he (for once)!

Bravo, Santelli!
CNBC's Rick Santelli was also mad as hell today, as SerandEz and The Anchoress describe. I saw this live on TV this morning; I applauded because it was so genuine, and it was what so many people wish THEY could say on TV!
Antarctic Odyssey
Here are some photos now on display in England of Capt. Scott's South Pole journey. Digitized and put online, these are 100 years old but look as if they were snapped just recently.
Mad As Hell at the Socialist Stimulus Bill!
I feel like sticking my own head out the window and shouting! You can find some great photos of anti-stimulus-bill protesters here and here. Also, you should watch Glenn Beck every night at 5 pm on Fox if you want to see another person who thinks the same way we do.

"Emotional Distress"
Political correctness, frivolous lawsuits, and illegal immigration are all out of control in this country. The unbelievable verdict in the story of the rancher on whose land illegals encroached represents all three issues run completely amuck:
"...you will be glad to know that the jury ruled that Barnett did not violate the 'civil rights' of the illegal aliens. But .... the jury did award $78,000 in actual and punitive damages to six of the illegal aliens on claims of assault and emotional distress. Isn't that just wonderful? You defend your property and suddenly you're forking over big bucks because you caused some degree of emotional distress in the people you find trespassing."This sort of insanity never ends!

Rachmaninoff Concert No. 2
I literally played this gorgeous concerto to death in my car's cassette player; today the tape finally broke!
The "Have You No Shame Award"
It's a tie between these two contenders:
(1) Already they want another stimulus package, which Right Wing News has dubbed "Son of Stimulus":
(1) Already they want another stimulus package, which Right Wing News has dubbed "Son of Stimulus":
"Despite the enormous size of the $787 billion stimulus plan, some economists worry that it won't make a big enough dent in unemployment and that lawmakers will have to work on another stimulus in short order -- something members of Congress are loathe to discuss."(2) Obviously, England also suffers from a combination of Jerryspringeritis and Maurypovichitis:
"Alfie Patten, the schoolboy who has allegedly become a parent aged 13, may open the DNA test results which will prove if he fathered his girlfriend's baby on live television, it has been reported."

Happy Presidents Day!
Greg Crosby discusses, among other things, George Washington:
"On another subject, I'd like to take this occasion to honor a man of whom it is said is 'first in the hearts of his countrymen.' Whose image and name appear everywhere throughout our nation and whose integrity has set the standard to those who follow. Whose courage and convictions have made our country the greatest land on earth. To those of you on the left who assume I'm speaking of Barack Obama, sorry to disappoint you but I'm referring to George Washington. As crazy as this may sound to Chris Matthews and others in the mainstream media, President's Day is really about the celebration of Washington's birthday, not the inauguration of Obama."
"I Want a Divorce"
I received the below post from a fellow conservative at work today. I don't know if it's one of those Snopes urban legends or not...but I sure like the sentiment anyway!
"Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et. al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right,so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, slate it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own ways.
Here is a model dissolution agreement. Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (you are however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them). We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan Hockey Moms, greedy CEO's, and Rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
You can make nice with Iran , Palestine, and France , and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life are under assault, we'll provide them job security.
We'll keep our Judeo Christian Values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill. We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Prius and Subaru Station Wagon you can find. You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing Doctors (that is practicing Howard Dean) who will follow to your turf. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and The National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach The World To Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World. We'll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot. Since it often so offends you we'll keep our History, our Name, and our Flag.
Would you agree to this? In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR on who will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall

Miep Gies
Anyone who has read and loved Anne Frank will be happy to read that Miep Gies is celebrating her 100th birthday. Anne wrote about her in her diary, and you can see a photo of Miep during that time.
What's It All About, Alfie?
This unbelievably sordid tale seems to have supplanted the sickening "Octumom" story in the headlines:
"Alfie Patten has reportedly demanded a DNA test to prove he really is a father at age 13 after two other teenagers are said to have claimed they had slept with his girlfriend."Reality TV show, anyone?

I'm a Proud Member of the Chattering Classes
The Democrats must truly have contempt for the taxpayers, as evidenced by Charles Schumer's brilliant statement, described here by Michelle Malkin:
"N.Y. Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer took to the floor on Tuesday to sneer at public outrage over the trillion-dollar porkulus. 'The American people really don’t care,' he said, about those 'little tiny, yes, porky amendments.' He punctuated his derision by pinching his pointer finger and thumb together. Only the 'chattering classes' worry about such trivial matters, Schumer scoffed."
Appeasement in Our Time
Stephen Brown fittingly refers to the deportation of Geert Wilders as "a Chamberlain moment".

Political Propaganda
Don't ever read Michelle Malkin while eating. You will soon lose your appetite over the stories she reports, such as this one about a recent Obama rally.
Gud Spelers of the Wurld, Unite!
Here is a ridiculous article titled "Fastidious spelling snobs pushed over the edge", which seems to attack those of us who actually prefer to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I realize that everything has been dumbed down and excused in our society, but isn't using correct spelling and punctuation the right thing to do? Maybe not: I am always amazed at the misspellings and bad grammar on CNN and other networks, and on correspondence and resumes I see at work. (And if I hear someone say "I should have went" one more time, I'll scream!)

Sermon Smear
I almost drove off the road when I heard this news today:
"British lawmakers condemned the Al Jazeera network for broadcasting a Muslim cleric's sermon in which he celebrates the Holocaust and prays for the killing of all Jews. Sheik Yusuf al-Quaradawi, who hosts the popular program 'Shariah and Life' on the Arabic language international news network, described the Holocaust as 'divine punishment' and prayed to Allah to kill Jews 'down to the very last one.'They ought to call that program "Shariah and Death", since that's all they talk about. Britain should take Al Jazeera off the air -- or would that offend the Muslims?

Base Ball
The New York Posts's Mike Vaccaro writes about A-Rod and "the steroid era":
"... if we can all agree that Rodriguez belongs in the conversation as one of the greatest players who ever lived, then it is only right that he take his place at the dais alongside Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Roger Clemens as the featured speakers at the banquet honoring The Era. With everybody toasting each other lifting loaded syringes, rather than champagne glasses. In truth, maybe this is precisely what baseball deserves."It's a good thing my disillusionment with baseball is already complete, otherwise these latest revelations would sicken and infuriate me even more.

Time for Haveil Havalim #203 and/or #204!
Although Jack says this is actually Haveil Havalim #204, a wonderfully detailed Haveil Havalim #203- The Real 203rd Edition is available now at Esser Agaroth. But no matter which edition this is, HH is still #1 with me!
Melanie Phillips
Melanie Phillips writes brilliantly for the UK Spectator. Today's column is about Pres. Obama, and she ends by saying:
"Tired of being President – after two weeks! Tax cheats, pork-barrel politics, ancillary child abuse, incompetence, chaos, treachery and infantilism. America – what have you done?!"And Friday's column titled The Jihad Against Britain's Jews is especially frightening. She recounts attacks against Jews and the media's failure to report them, and says
"...the protests in Britain have nothing to do with humanitarian concerns for the innocent. They are part of the jihad against the Jews – and those in the universities and other parts of the establishment who are capitulating to or even endorsing this are accomplices to a great evil that is now consuming British public life."

September 11 Slander
Read about the latest attempt to force 9/11 conspiracy theories down gullible peoples' throats. These people are crazy.
"September 11 has been forgotten by most, or Chairman Zero could never have been elected. But even some moonbats still remember the heroism of the many firemen who were killed on that awful day. The TV show "Rescue Me" will keep the memories alive by featuring an NYC firefighter who believes the atrocities of 9/11 were the work of the Bush Administration."
Proverbs for Today
The People's Cube has a list of modern proverbs, including these gems:
"Having naughty children in the back seat can result in an accident; having a naughty accident in the back seat can result in children, followed by a story in The National Enquirer." (John Edwards' proverb)and
"Multiculturalism is when people of all races, colors, and creeds join hands in a common effort to blame the Jews." (Proverb of Columbia University professors)

You CAN Judge a Book By Its Cover!
Well, it turns out that Captain Sullenberger is not only a hero, but he's also a reader and a very honest library patron!
"Chesley Sullenberger has now been excused from having to pay late fees to a California library. Sullenberger checked a book out from the library. But the book became lost in the Hudson when the plane went down on January 15th. Sullenberger asked the library for an extension and a waiver of late fees. Library officials decided to waive all fees and dedicated a replacement book in his honor. As for the book's subject?, professional ethics."

The Idiocy of Michael Phelps
Andrea Peyser comments on the self-destruction of Michael Phelps:

What's that burning aroma I smell? That's millions of dollars in endorsement deals bursting into flames faster than Michael Phelps' bong pipe."

Letter from an Israeli Soldier
Rubicon3 links to this letter from an IDF soldier to a Palestinian home-owner:
"How could you see these weekly launches and not think that one day we would say 'enough'?! Did you ever consider that it is perhaps wrong to launch rockets at innocent civilians trying to lead a normal life, much like you? How long did you think we would sit back without reacting?....Take responsibility for yourself, your family, your people, and start to take control of your destiny. How? I do not know. Maybe there is something to be learned from the Jewish people who rose up from the most destructive human tragedy of the 20th century, and instead of sinking into self-pity, built a flourishing and prospering country. It is possible, and it is in your hands. I am ready to be there to provide a shoulder of support and help to you. But only you can move the wheels of history."
Letters to the Editor
USA Today had some letters to the editor over which I found myself nodding in agreement. First, these letters on the greedy USA passengers; and this one titled "Tax the poor to aid the economy"
