Missing Headlines
I have always wondered why it is that certain missing women and children are more newsworthy than others. This column by Bridget Johnson says it all: "If you’re a missing kid, you’d better hope you’re cute." and "One thinks of the kids, besides Maddy, that have made such huge headlines recently: Natalie Hollaway. Jon Benet Ramsey. Elizabeth Smart. Cute blonde kids. Coincidence, or troubling statement about what captures our attention and gets priority down at the newsroom?"

It's just stupid. It shouldn't matter whether a kidnapped kid is a boy or a girl, whether he/she is blonde, brunette, redhead, or bald, whether he/she is supermodel material or butt-ugly, or whether he/she is white, black, yellow, red, or purple with pink polka dots. EVERY kid who goes missing should get huge headlines. There is absolutely no excuse in the world for not giving all kidnapped kids the same amount of news coverage.
