Don't forget to read the great posts at Larwyn's Linx, Maggie's Farm, and Liz Sheld's Morning Briefing!
Check out Argus Hamilton's quips, including this one: "American Heritage marked Independence Day by releasing a poll of Americans that rated U.S. presidents and they named George Washington number one. It must be his integrity. George Washington was the only president who never blamed all his troubles on the previous administration."
Today's Yiddish Vinkl features the expression gornisht mit gornisht, which means "worth nothing at all." One of the examples given by Harold Ticktin is this one: "Without Yiddish, Jewish humor would be gornisht mit gornisht. The humor inherent in Yiddish words also appeals to non-Jews. F. Scott Fitzgerald, so the story goes, used to wander into a Jewish delicatessen just to hear the word 'knish.' (bit.ly/2Xcw22e )"
