If you haven't done so already, you should see the documentary For All Mankind, which celebrates all the Apollo moon missions.
I'm sure you remember watching this on TV that weekend as well: "From Chappaquiddick to Tranquility Base in One Weekend; Fifty years later, a look back at a moon landing and a vehicular homicide that epitomized the age." Ted Kennedy was lucky in that the attention of the public and the media was mainly focused on space rather than on Edgartown.
