Isn't this terrible? I've heard stories like this before and find these liars beneath contempt. Also contemptible are those who would make excuses for them.
Former Teacher: I Faked Cancer to Get $30K in Donations

NEW BEDFORD, Ma. — A former Massachusetts special education teacher admitted Wednesday to faking cancer and collecting more than $30,000 in donations. Heather Faria, a high school in southeastern Massachusetts, told colleagues in 2003 that she had stomach cancer and couldn't afford to pay for both expensive medical treatments and food.Parents, teachers and other members of the school community raised $30,000 in donations.Faria pleaded guilty to six charges yesterday — including five counts of larceny over $250,000 and one count of gross fraud.
