"From time to time, I write about the singling out of Israel: the attempt by the world at large to render it illegitimate, to make it a pariah state. The world is very good at this.
Everywhere they go, Israeli musicians are harassed, Israeli athletes are harassed. They are not allowed to participate in the normal affairs of life.
The latest example occurred at the BBC Proms in London, when the Israel Philharmonic was not allowed to proceed. Last year, the Jerusalem Quartet was not allowed to proceed at Wigmore Hall (also London).
People sometimes ask me, 'Why do you care so much about Israel? Why are you so hung up on Israel?' Leave them alone — let them live — and I won’t be."
