We really shouldn't be surprised by
this sort of liberal thinking by E. J. Dionne Jr. The title alone ("Time to leave 9/11 behind") tells you everything you need to know about the way these people think. You cannot simply "leave behind" a crime of unprecedented proportions. Have Americans left the attacks on Pearl Harbor behind, or the assassination of JFK, or the Holocaust? Certain earth-shattering events cannot and should not be left behind. If anything, we should be talking about the September 11 attacks more, not less -- or has political correctness determined that silence is preferable than hurting the feelings of Muslims?
Read this Mark Steyn column on the politically correct view of September 11:
"And so we commemorate an act of war as a 'tragic event,' and we retreat to equivocation, cultural self-loathing, and utterly fraudulent misrepresentation about the events of the day. In the weeks after 9/11, Americans were enjoined to ask, 'Why do they hate us?' A better question is: 'Why do they despise us?' And the quickest way to figure out the answer is to visit the Peace Quilt and the Wish Tree, the Crescent of Embrace and the Hole of Bureaucratic Inertia."
