No surprise here. We knew that the District Attorney, Mike Nifong, was going ahead with this trumped-up case in order to get re-elected, which unfortunately he was.
From the very start this case was like the Tawana Brawley hoax. If blacks accuse whites, no matter how farfetched the story is, the politically correct thing to do is pursue the case. The Democrats used this tactic against the Republicans in the 2000 elections, when they tried to imply that Republicans were stopping blacks from voting. When people protested that this wasn't so, the reply was that even if a claim isn't true, you can make it sound like it is. It's a variation of the Big Lie.
Mike Nifong ought to be charged with withholding evidence, and disbarred; the 3 accused students should sue for false imprisonment and defamation of character; and the lying lowlife accuser should be barred from selling her "story" on tabloid TV.
