"Where Are The Parents?"

If I hear the phrase "root causes" one more time, I'll scream! Whatever happened to plain old-fashioned right and wrong?
When you see the photos of the destruction, you wonder how this is the same Britain that survived the Blitz and stood together against the Nazis! 

What will the response be here when the "flash mobs" turn into another Tottenham?

The Telegraph's Allison Pearson wonders where the parents are,  a question that can be asked here at home as well.   "Why can’t they feel things properly? How did we end up with some of the most indisciplined and frighteningly moronic youngsters in Europe? How come our kids are the best at being bad? There’s no use blaming the police; it’s the parents, stupid." 

Read Max Hastings and just substitute the word "American":

"So there we have it: a large, amoral, brutalised sub-culture of young British people who lack education because they have no will to learn, and skills which might make them employable. They are too idle to accept work waitressing or doing domestic labour, which is why almost all such jobs are filled by immigrants.
They have no code of values to dissuade them from behaving anti-socially or, indeed, criminally, and small chance of being punished if they do so.
They have no sense of responsibility for themselves, far less towards others, and look to no future beyond the next meal, sexual encounter or TV football game.
They are an absolute deadweight upon society, because they contribute nothing yet cost the taxpayer billions. Liberal opinion holds they are victims, because society has failed to provide them with opportunities to develop their potential.

Unless or until those who run Britain introduce incentives for decency and impose penalties for bestiality which are today entirely lacking, there will never be a shortage of young rioters and looters such as those of the past four nights, for whom their monstrous excesses were ‘a great fire, man’."
