Democrats: The Only People Besides Criminals Angry at Crime-Fighting Efforts

If anyone  had told me years ago that people would actually protest the fight against violent crime in our nation's capital, I would have thought they were crazy. Apparently, today such people are crazy.

Bring back the "Scared Straight" program, where they'd put teen criminals in a cell with hardened criminals to have them learn there are consequences to their actions and to make them change their lives for the better.  Of course, today the hardened criminals would be the ones scared of the teens.

An excerpt from an opinion piece at The Hill:

CNN hates Donald Trump’s plan to send in the troops, end DC crime wave
by Robby Soave, opinion contributor   - 08/12/25

"Send in the troops! That’s President Donald Trump’s plan to reduce violent crime in the nation’s capital. The president made the announcement yesterday that he would be implementing a 30-day takeover of Washington, D.C.’s police department, and supplementing their efforts with 800 National Guard troops.

"In response, Democrats, liberal pundits and the mainstream media reacted with fury that someone would try to actually address D.C.’s crime problems. Their responses ranged from anger over the federal takeover to denial that there’s even a problem at all, to desperate attempts to talk about something else. Seriously, the national reporters at the press conference swiftly pivoted to questions about Russia-Ukraine, which is the only subject that holds the mainstream media’s interest for more than a few seconds."

As usual, The Babylon Bee has a perfect take on this, which I thought was a real news story at first:

DC Mayor Warns Trump’s Crime Fighting Measures Will Unfairly Impact Criminals
U.S. · Aug 11, 2025 · BabylonBee.com

"WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the announcement that the president had ordered the federalization of law enforcement in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser warned that Trump's crime-fighting measures would unfairly impact criminals.

"President Trump ordered the National Guard into action to begin patrolling the streets of the District of Columbia following ongoing incidents of violent crime, causing the capital's mayor to sound the alarm that lawbreakers would disproportionately bear the brunt of the initiative.

""Why should fighting crime focus so much on criminals?" Bowser asked during a press conference. "It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that our fascist dictator ‘president' is taking action that will single out a particular people group in our city. He has a track record of doing it before, and now he's doing it to our criminals. We must stand up to this tyranny and protect the important role the criminal element plays in the fabric and tradition of our city. Our criminals deserve better."

"Trump remained resolute in the face of Bower's opposition. "It's a big mess," he said. "Our beautiful nation's capital, full of gangs and criminals. We're going to clean it up, believe me. We'll do whatever it takes. National Guard, U.S. Marines, the Avengers. I have the authority to do all of it because I'm the President. Let's not forget the biggest criminals, ok? The Democrats. We'll put them behind bars where they belong. Maybe El Salvador."

"At publishing time, Mayor Bowser had set up emergency aid shelters to provide help and comfort to criminals impacted by Trump's anti-crime policies."
