Driver says he was checking email in moments before fatal crash
"A truck driver says he was distracted by checking his email in the moments before a crash that took one woman’s life earlier this week.
"The accident happened on Wednesday afternoon, October 22nd on Interstate 90 near Bozeman, Montana.
"According to 4 KXLF, the 53-year-old truck driver was heading east in his Peterbilt when he failed to slow for traffic in a construction zone. The truck driver then crashed into the slowed traffic at highway speeds, colliding with a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 42-year-old woman. The semi truck then collided with a Subaru driven by a 69-year-old woman, pushing the Subaru into a Ford Explorer driven by a 35-year-old man with a 9-year-old passenger. The Subaru, Ford, and semi truck all veered off the right side of the road after the wreck.
"The 42-year-old woman in the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver later told troopers that he was checking his email at the time of the wreck. No further information has been released."
