Asheville is in the news today, locally, regionally, nationally, and even internationally. It's not because an Ashevillian won the Nobel Peace Prize, or because of heroics by Ashevillian soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
No, it's because the idiot manager of the Asheville Tourists minor league baseball team threw a major-league-sized fit during a game on Sunday. Read the Asheville Citizen-Times description of this tantrum and see if you find the manager's actions amusing. I do not. Once again, Asheville is the laughingstock of the world. (Several years ago it was named Hippie Capital of America by Rolling Stone magazine)

What began as an argument over a pickoff play evolved into a lengthy and humorous tirade, complete with Mikulik diving into second base, plucking the base from the ground and throwing it after a nose-to-nose argument with base umpire Andy Russell resulted in his ejection from the game.
The tantrum also included Mikulik throwing a resin bag toward the bullpen, kicking dirt on the home-plate umpire, covering the plate with dirt, throwing bats from the dugout, pouring water on the plate, squatting behind the plate to show the umpire how to call a strike and angrily slamming a water bottle down.
Once in the clubhouse, Mikulik reportedly pushed water coolers, a chair and a batting practice screen in front of the umpires’ locker room.
