From The Jewish Press: "Germany has charged a 93-year-old former guard at the Auschwitz death camp with 300,000 counts of accessory to murder. The former guard and his lawyer said he 'only' witnessed murders and in any case was only a 'cog' in the Nazi death machine." Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
And unfortunately so does this offhand comment by one of the readers: "WW2 is over and now we all should put that terrible situation in the
back of our minds. Certainly there must have been a few Germans that did
not follow orders to kill every Jew in site. Perhaps this soldier was
one of those that merely followed orders and nothing more." Yes, that must be it.
